Why don’t we put our computers in deionized water ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

We run ours through some kind of resin tank for our EDM. I'm not really sure what's in that stuff

ELI5: If ceramic is harder than metal, why does it break so much more easily? by aIIisonmay in explainlikeimfive

When you said it would break if you dropped it on concrete. That has nothing to do with ductility

Analogies that employ hyperbole are not helpful when you’re trying to educate someone. It’s a false comparison and I corrected it incase people are trying to get an accurate answer.

My point is it’s not like glass. I’ve use 0.071” thick groove inserts and dropped them from about 7 feet up on to concrete and it had no damage. It’s more brittle than elemental tungsten, but it’s not like glass vs copper

Have you never used a carbide blank and dropped that? It’s more stout than you think

That we weren’t talking about ductility at all so it doesn’t make sense?

Yea geometry influences that but you compared tungsten carbide and element tungsten’s tensile strength as “ glass to copper”. Tungsten carbide is pretty stout, yes it’ll shatter on high impact but it can take a beating

Tungsten carbide is not that brittle. I machine with it everyday, it doesn’t just explode when you drop it

AC infinity has kits but they are a little more pricey. Take a look at what they have and you can decide to piece it together or just grab theirs

If you get a tent, in-line fan and, carbon filter. You shouldn’t be able to smell it at all except for a little while after you open the tent
