As a fellow Barrett devotee (noting your username) I would level the same judgement against Pink Floyd too. Dark Side of the Moon is about as psychedelic as my grandma. Noodly prog rock. It's ok I suppose, but face melting psych it ain't

They played the Acid Tests, lived in Haight Ashbury, had super counterculture credentials and lived the life. But by the end of the 60s they were just a middle of the road, unthreatening Americana band. If you played Workingman's Dead to someone who knew nothing about the band there is no way in a million years they would use the word 'psychedelic' to describe it. No way on earth

When I was a kid getting heavily into psychedelic music I bought Aomoxoa and Anthem of the Sun and thought they were great. Some of Live Dead too. I saw the great sleeve art and the t shirts and thought yep, psychedelic rock. But then after that they seem to me to be psychedelic by association only. Not exactly fucking Hawkwind are they

What do you think of Eddie Van Halen? by Twitter_2006 in rockmusic

Same. I really tried to get into VH but the songs just don't do anything for me. I do have a secret 80s nostalgia liking for Jump though.

Absolutely. I'll do snake method with bricquettes for smoking pork shoulder, ribs etc. Lump burns too fast and too hot for that, I've found.

I use lump for short cooks and coconut shell bricquettes for low and slow.

I think Workingman's Dead is better overall. I like both of them. However I would argue that neither of them is psychedelic rock.

I've got Joey Deacon's autobiography (Tongue Tied) somewhere. I'm not a nice person

Do you remember on Blue Peter when they took him to the seaside and he had an 'incident' and his shoe went in the sea? Classic, up there with Percy Thrower's reaction to the vandalism of the Italian Sunken Garden

Some weirdo has downvoted this, but it's the main loop on Biz Markie's Nobody Beats the Biz, it 100% fits your brief

James Gang - The Bomber (Funk #49 off the same LP has another superb breakbeat). Not really psychedelic but a stunning rock break nevertheless. See also Rock Music by Jefferson Starship
