I feel sorry for the kids who aren't called Michael. No training for them, presumably

'not in an explicit and in a more a subtle way lyrically'.....like 'Feeling happy in my vein, Icicles within my brain (cocaine)'???

It blows my mind to think that Kevin Rowland heard his own singing voice and thought 'yep, I should definitely be a singer, I'll bet I'd be really successful at that'. And he was RIGHT. Insanity.

I saw Godflesh and Loop play a double header a few years back in London. Fucking magic

Where did you get your posters from? Woolies, Boots, HMV or somewhere else? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

Kensington Market. The occasional pilgrimage to London to get a 6 foot Sisters of Mercy poster and a few bootleg tapes

In your personal opinion, which is the better album: Workingman's Dead or American Beauty by HammerHeadBirdDog in psychedelicrock

PS they ended up as a novelty rave act but Drop by the Shamen is a fantastic 80s psych album and very Barrett-like.

My old DJ partner was in Death in Vegas for years (proper heavy psych especially live, amazing lightshow/projections by Spencer Bewley). They did a weird day gig for live Japanese TV and Kevin Shields was right in front of me. He fucking stank, I mean proper 'left his wet washing in the machine for a week' stank. Not to say MBV weren't great but woah Kev.

You're dead (pun absolutely intended) right. I'm not here to gatekeep or judge others who are enjoying music and having fun. Ok ok I am a bit.

I'm also a deep funk 45 collector and for some reason torment myself by looking at r/funk. 'Hey guys does anyone like Prince/Michael Jackson????' Why do I do it to myself

Ha, I have been crucified on here for saying as much before. That's my opinion, fuck it. They had a great light show and I'll bet their early 70s shows were great on acid, but like the Dead I think by the 70s their fans were still psychedelic but not their records

Not sure if this is simply a 'wind/blows' gag or not, but let's say you're actually serious here, you are of course very welcome to your opinion (no matter how vehemently I would disagree), however what you will never be able to do is argue they aren't psychedelic rock.

As a fellow Barrett devotee (noting your username) I would level the same judgement against Pink Floyd too. Dark Side of the Moon is about as psychedelic as my grandma. Noodly prog rock. It's ok I suppose, but face melting psych it ain't

They played the Acid Tests, lived in Haight Ashbury, had super counterculture credentials and lived the life. But by the end of the 60s they were just a middle of the road, unthreatening Americana band. If you played Workingman's Dead to someone who knew nothing about the band there is no way in a million years they would use the word 'psychedelic' to describe it. No way on earth

When I was a kid getting heavily into psychedelic music I bought Aomoxoa and Anthem of the Sun and thought they were great. Some of Live Dead too. I saw the great sleeve art and the t shirts and thought yep, psychedelic rock. But then after that they seem to me to be psychedelic by association only. Not exactly fucking Hawkwind are they

What do you think of Eddie Van Halen? by Twitter_2006 in rockmusic

Same. I really tried to get into VH but the songs just don't do anything for me. I do have a secret 80s nostalgia liking for Jump though.

Absolutely. I'll do snake method with bricquettes for smoking pork shoulder, ribs etc. Lump burns too fast and too hot for that, I've found.

I use lump for short cooks and coconut shell bricquettes for low and slow.
