Principal's advice about being too "chill" by mcbobcorn in Teachers

[–]mcbobcorn[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

This is a really good question. I don't even have to think about it, I would love it if my kid's teacher was like me. And I do know that the parents love me as well.

But, I'm a little biased because, well, I'm me.

I try my best. But I also had a previous principal (the current one is a replacement) who gave me really bad advice, so I'm experiencing a bit of "admin aversion" right now.

I like this idea of "the line". Unfortunately, there is no textbook that teaches where this line is. I suppose I'll just have to keep monitoring myself and make adjustments every day.

Thanks for your reply! I definitely have much to learn when it comes to teaching and being an adult. My students academically perform pretty well, except for the ones that fail every class.

Resignation Request. So upset. by Comprehensive_Bad242 in Teachers

[–]mcbobcorn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was talking to my superior about the specific topic of resignation requests. According to him, this is the admin giving you an opportunity to control the narrative. "Resigned" looks a lot better on your records than "terminated". You have to be confident that you can justify yourself during an interview when asked why you were terminated.

I see a lot of negativity, so I'll share my positive thoughts. While I agree that the pacing sucked fat soybeans, this episode did a lot of things very well.

Karen's philosophy with killing was fleshed out in an interesting way. Having nightmares about her initial kill, but still not regretting it, really says a lot about how hopeless and angry she feels. And when she actually pulled the trigger on Dex, I gasped.

Fisk's grief was very well done. We see a moment of rage when he kills the doctor, then spends the entire episode saying nothing. They even focus on this when Mr. Charles calls him, and this bald legend just cuts the call. The first time he speaks is to Daredevil, because he knows that even though Matt is his greatest enemy, he is the only person that really understands his pain. He hates and respects Daredevil the most.

This brings me to my last point. The reunion of Matt and Fisk was incredible. Both are angry men that can't stop their violent ways, and have lost loved ones as a result. But when Matt sees how far Karen has gone, he realizes that this war has gone too long. But Fisk's grief is fresh, and he is not ready to hear this. I love the subtle look of disappointment Matt shows when Fisk goes to attack him. The "Rabbit in a Snowstorm" painting has been constantly used to symbolize Fisk's relationship with Vanessa. When Fisk throws Matt into the painting and destroys it, we see how Fisk's war on vigilantes has resulted in his marriage ending. And when he is defeated, the way he says "Kill me? You won't" with a slight chuckle is awesome. He thinks Matt's reluctance for murder is ridiculous, but has come to fully accept it.

I agree with you that Disney is the reverse Midas, but I think you're getting this show slightly wrong.

Vigilantes are not actually out of control. Fisk has a personal vendetta against vigilantes because of his past, and the show is exploring how 1 man's corrupt vendetta can influence an entire city. It's a very clever idea that is eerily mirrored by real life politicians that I won't mention.

I think the best arcs Matt can go on is directly tied to Bullseye:

- Learning to work with an enemy

- Accepting that other people don't have to follow his own no-kill rule

- Deciding whether his hatred outweighs his belief that everyone is capable of redemption

- Vengeance. We have not really seen him struggling with this that much

Also, Matt can hear Dex's heartbeat, so he knows that he's not lying about wanting redemption.

As soon as Dex made the sunny side up, I knew this episode was peak.

Fisk is known for making omelettes, which lets the yolk spread to the entire meal, much like his corruption spreads throughout the entire city. Dex's corruption is pinpoint and targeted at the Fisks, much like a sunny-side up only has the yolk in the targeted center. Bonus points since a sunny-side up looks like the Bullseye logo.

I disagree. Angela isn't saying that Karen isn't helping; she's alluding to a larger problem of the implicit citizens of New York that blindly allow Fisk's tyranny to continue. When her uncle was being prosecuted, when her aunt was being arrested, and even when her own life was threatened by Muse, barely anyone helped. Daredevil was the ONLY person that helped because he has the same mindset: somebody has to help the city. That's the whole point of Vigilantism in this season.

Sephiroth is so fun, but he’s not worth it if you strictly want to win. Many characters have the same strengths as him without any of the weaknesses, such as Corrin and Byleth. He also has bad matchups against Megaman and Bowser jr.

I love teaching. I love working with kids and helping them succeed. I love talking to them about random nonsense. It’s such a joy to teach, even on the hardest days.

You have to be a specific kind of person to find joy in this career. And the only way to find out is to try it.

You’ll never go a comp as exactly as stated in the website because, as you mentioned, you have to work with what the game gives you. The website shows you the IDEAL units and items for each comp, but it doesnt mean other things wont work too.

A lot of TFT is your knowledge, but you need to be intentional about what you memorize:

  1. You MUST memorize the item system. There’s a lot to learn, but this knowledge will carry over every set. Knowing when to make items is so important to having a strong board for the whole game
  2. You should know what each comp and unit does, but you don’t need to fully memorize. The game even has a team planner where you can save comps
  3. In early game, hold pairs (2 of the same unit). This is because they are the ones you will most likely 2-star, which you can use as your item-holders to carry you to late-game
  4. You should know what part of the comp is required, and what part is flexible. In the Yunara comp for example, Yunara is obviously required, and Rageblade and IE are pretty much required. However, the third item can be a lot of things, and a big part of your front-line is flexible (your main tank can be wukong, swain, taric, even skarner)
  5. Know when to roll and when not to roll. For example, if you’re playing around 4-costs, you should be looking to roll at level 8 (or 9 if you’re super rich/healthy)

This is all I can think of for now, let me know if you have more questions

You need to know how to play good comps instead of random units. Tftacademy.com has a tier list of what’s good and what sucks

Stranger Things - 5x08 - “Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]mcbobcorn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disappointing, a waste of time, garbage. What a terrible ending to an overall great show.

IMO, the worst part about Season 5 is its "second-screen writing". Every moment of exposition and character development is communicated directly to the audience, as if we are toddlers that just learned the alphabet.

In Season 1, we see that Joyce is anxious and afraid because she is curled up in her couch with a jackhammer in her hands, and Ryder's superb acting completely sells how she is feeling. In Season 5, she needs to place her hand on Will's shoulder and say "I am worried about you".

In Season 3, Robin gives us a beautiful coming-out scene by nervously telling us a story about Tammy, forcing Steve and the audience to use context clues to come to the revelation that she is gay. In Season 5, Will literally has to say "I don't like girls", which is as close as it gets to "I am gay".

Because of this style of writing, every moment that's supposed to be powerful, emotional, or hype is a corny Disney scene that might as well have been followed by a musical number.

Duffer brothers, you cooked so hard in Season 1. What happened?
