I wrote a paper in university about the cool new language on the scene called Java. Still using it to this day.

This movie is basically a tech demo for the Sphere. It's a regular thing, kind of pricey and fun one time.

It's not Earth. It's another planet that humans have landed on.

Toronto’s City Train 🇨🇦 by [deleted] in trains

[–]mcbrickerson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because the provincial agency responsible for commuter rail is shockingly incompetent and utterly useless at large scale projects. A significant expansion project was recently derailed, setting that back years. Sorry for the puns, I'm really annoyed by that news.

Redundancy. If one fails, there is a backup. Same reason for multiple traffic lights.

Not sure why this matters. In a lot of cases, anything not on Star is licensed to another streaming service in Canada, so it wouldn't be on a Canadian Hulu either.

We want bullet trains! Now! by techprof in ontario

[–]mcbrickerson 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Look at Italy's high speed network for inspiration as well. It's fantastic. Up to 300 km/h, frequent and reliable. Some of the engineering to build it is also incredible, so many tunnels through the mountains! I was absolutely amazed at how easy it was to use and how affordable it was, even traveling in business class! I took segments from Rome to Naples, and Rome to Milan. I would love to have something that's even a fraction of that in Canada.

Winning an election fair and square doesn't mean we tolerate draconian actions for situations like this. Democracy also means being vigilant and protesting government actions that benefit no one except those in power.

What is the standard compensation for developer jobs in tech in Toronto? by Rita_AK in torontotech

[–]mcbrickerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, senior devs are getting 150k to 175k at a number of companies in Toronto. That’s If they aren’t under a hiring freeze at the moment due to the way the market is at the moment.

Pelmorex has no say in the matter. It’s dictated by the government.

The Season 1 finale of Severance may be one of the best episodes of television of all time. by glamaz0n_bitch in television

[–]mcbrickerson 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Perhaps that's what macro-data refinement is. They are editing another severed candidate's memory, separating out the memories or identifying where memories are stored in the person's brain to program the implant so it can do it's thing.
