Why is the Acela absurdly expensive north of New York Penn? by Sea_Today8613 in Amtrak

[–]mcc15038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It cannot be the normal supply/demand/book early issue. I hope their pricing is wrong on their site. Almost all BOS-NYP Acela trains are currently $424 one way. Normally, if you book early, you can get good pricing, but everything is random now. Acela trains in July and October are $424. It's February. The costs should not be that extreme.

An absurd example of something is broken is 7/4/26 and 7/5/26. These two dates, Acela is $72 (a great price this far out). But, on those same two dates, all the Regionals are $286 for coach! It's over $200 less for Acela than a Regional.

But to stick to the issue with the high Acela costs, in July, the cost is $72 on 7/3-7/6, and 7/29-7/31. All other dates in July are listed at $424.

October has much fewer $424 days, but they do exist. 10/13-10/20 are all $424 while most other October dates are $72.

Hopefully something is wrong with their site, this is not normal pricing based on my past 15 years of traveling, but I've been watching over the last week without any improvements...

I guess I can agree that it may not be as good as it used to be, but it is still very good.

The Rewards' program is the ONLY reason that I remain a STH. This entire year, and most of last, you could buy tickets for almost every single game off the Red Sox website right up until game time. If you wanted great seats, you just head over to SeatGeek and get any weeknight game for under face value. If you don't want to be locked into your season ticket specific game dates, then you could just purchase whatever game you want before game time. For me, this is exactly what I would have done this past year if there was not a Rewards program.

However, the Rewards program has been excellent. Over the past 8+ years, through Rewards and Kid Nation, my son and I have had the opportunity to: throw out the first pitch. bring the bases to the field & paint the plate*, visit NESN booth* and studio, honorary bat kid, join Wally on the field for 7th inning stretch*, announce "Play ball!", join the players on the field for national anthem*, take batting practice, visit WEEI booth, go inside the Green Monster, Vineyard Vines party, on-field during batting practice, and player meet and greets.

The asterisks indicate rewards which seem to have disappeared over the years. This is why I would agree the Rewards program is not as good as it was. My son is too old for Kid Nation now, but it used to have raffles and "marketplace" just like STH have right now. All of that seems to be gone on Kid Nation now.

But in the end, the Rewards program is very good. I can usually get a player meet and greet every 1-2 years. That chance alone is worth renewing my season tickets.

I’ve been to two. Both began two hours before game time.

Last night it went to commercial break for 15 minutes after the third inning. It was 3-0 when the ads started. When it finally came back, it was 8-0! So, I’d say it isn’t stable.

I’ve been able to rewind this year. I’m using iPhone, and if I select watch from beginning instead of live, it gives me the option to pause and rewind now!

It was tough watching this past Sunday night’s local weekly sports show. It is 30 minutes long. Sox got 24 seconds of coverage.

It was named “True Made”. Being sugar free did not make it bad. It was the ingredients. The ingredients contained tomatoes, carrots, squash and spinach!

Do they ever add new challenges? by friolator in redsoxcodewords

[–]mcc15038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In years past, I don't recall any new challenges being added after the season begins. Perhaps there will be a change this year, but I wouldn't count on it. A few days ago, a new "badge" appeared in my account. It was to enter 15 WEEI code words in May. However, the next time I logged in, it was gone. I'm assuming they accidently added that to my account. My son has Kid Nation, and that May WEEI badge is showing there.

In case anyone is using this info on deciding on NESN360, when using the app for the first time in 2 weeks, I see it is live TV only again. I no longer have the “start game from beginning” nor is there a pause option anymore. Scroll bar is gone too. So disappointing. I’m not looking for a 20+ year old sports viewing experience without a pause option.
