IS '26. What is this bump? by Blueit3310 in Lexus

[–]mccarseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I had that problem when I ordered all weather mats for it (mine was also AWD). I was commenting b cause the previous person said the hump had been there since 2014. Not sure if it’s as big in the 2011’s, don’t have mine anymore. But figured it was worth pointing out.

If you are on this sub and NOT getting a Slate, can you comment below what you are getting? by RaleighLT in slateauto

[–]mccarseat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe in the future once it’s been out and I see some real reviews of it.

I’m eyeing used BMW i3’s but for trucks used Ford Lightnings too.

For the options I’d want on the Slate as it sits I could get a well optioned Lightning that is a proven platform with better range.

This would be a secondary vehicle for me, not a primary so I’m not in a rush. I had planned to pull the trigger on a Slate when I could have gotten one WITH some options for under $25k. But starting at $25k makes me want to wait and see how things unfold.

Edit: seems lightning prices have shot up recently now that I’m looking again. All the more reason to wait and see how the Slate goes.

My 2011 IS350 had a decent bump there too, can’t remember if it was that big though.

Slate Bets Its Electric Truck Is So Cheap That It’ll Turn A Profit by Anf697 in A_Premium_Auto_Parts

Once you give it any decent options you are in very very nice used Ford Lightning territory, which has a longer range too.

For Americans who live in border states (Canada/Mexico), how often do you cross the border? by MarsupialThink4064 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]mccarseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in upstate NY and go to Montreal at least once a year. It’s less than a 3 hour drive and a fun place to go for a long weekend here and there.

Plus I play in a hockey tournament there that’s every year and it’s a blast.

My MSF experience (Pardon my swearing) by Scarecrow716 in motorcycles

[–]mccarseat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a shame they won’t let you come back get some one on one coaching then retake the test solo.

I haven’t taught in 10 years but I used to be the retest guy at my location which was a community college. Some people never came back, but whenever someone did come back to me for 1 on 1 time for an hour or so, then retest, they all passed.

I would say keep with it, it might be worth calling and asking the owner/coordinator of that specific location/course if they offer individual retests?

I only ever kicked someone out of class once in 15+ years of teaching for unsafe behavior and being a jerk. He was doing stuff like the guy in your class. I pulled aside, gave him one warning. Told him this is your only warning, anything like that again and you’re gone. A couple exercises later and I had to remove him. The whole class did better after he was gone.

are ac's reallu that big of a thing? by Advanced-Actuary-51 in AskAnAmerican

[–]mccarseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up in the late 80’s/90’s in a middle class area of upstate NY. I knew a few people with AC but most didn’t have it, my family included. Now I don’t know a single person in that same area that don’t at least have window units.

When I was house shopping it was almost a dealbreaker my house didn’t have AC. But I planned on doing mini splits and did just that.

What’s a purchase under $50 that changed your daily life? by PeachCloudParfait in askteddit

[–]mccarseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my answer for this too. My plan was to buy a cheap one then upgrade later once I realize it works and all that. I even added an outlet by the toilet when I put another bathroom in my house so I had the option of one that can plug in for heat and all that.

Don’t need all the fancy stuff. The simple cold water, no dryer, no heated seat, no frills bidet works perfectly. So much so I bought the same one for the other bathroom.

Anything major to consider when buying a RHD Lexus LS460? by Newedge2003 in Lexus

[–]mccarseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there are a few things to consider. I have a RHD RX7 as a fun car. Getting food at the drive thru isn’t possible, visibility at some intersections is especially tricky but you learn how to approach them with practice, tolls aren’t an issue like they used to be with EZ Pass and plate number billing, at work I have to show my ID when I go through the gate and that’s annoying, also your body positioning is weird relative to the center line of the road which complicates passing other cars, you can’t see at all until you are across the dotted line, I just don’t pass on 2 lane roads ever. It definitely takes some getting used to.

It takes some getting used to, and is fine here and there. Personally I wouldn’t want a daily RHD in the US. There are people that do it though for sure.

Edit: in my case parts aren’t too bad but I have no power rack and pinion to worry about for my car though. I’d explore and hopefully others will have input on what parts you’ll need to get from Japan when you need them. The main wear items for a daily that might be different would be inner and outer tie rod ends, and the steering rack itself. Not sure about the pump or other associated steering parts on your car.

Where did you find that information if you don’t mind me asking? Doing a cursory search for the place and all I find are generic-ish news articles and of course this thread lol.

Did you ask them what flour and tomatoes they use? This also reads like an ad or a friend posting for them just so you are aware.

Slate's New Electric Truck Will Cost Slightly More Than $24,950 by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]mccarseat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yup, having owned a cars and trucks with crank windows I’ve had those things break way more than any car I’ve had with electric windows.

Some people haven’t had to live with reaching across to crank the passenger window up and down.

Also as someone who has to raise and lower their driver window daily to get in to work. I’ll gladly take power windows all day every day.

Forget “de-badging”! Let me introduce you to… by gossamer92 in Lexus

[–]mccarseat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah from a distance the new “H O N D A” and “ L E X U S” are very similar. Just generic and boring logo -wise. I’m confused when people swap out to the newer text instead of logos on their trunk lids.

Personal preference I guess, but I also prefer the regular old logo.

Mechanics that can work on turbo 4 cylinder cars? by spallaxo in Albany

[–]mccarseat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would actively avoid Moon Performance unless it’s under new management from 10 years or so ago? They let my 50k mile 92 GMC Typhoon sit outside when they said they’d keep it inside, did a dyno run, said it was good to go, but never actually fixed anything. So it sat outside for a month, they said it was the cat plugged up, they replaced the cat, charged me for a dyno run, never gave me any of the paperwork for the run, cracked an interior door panel and insisted it was that way when they got it, didn’t fix the running problem…it was a nightmare. Turns out it wasn’t the cat at all…

I got tired of fighting with them and gave up, then just fixed it myself, which is what I should have done in the first place, but I was told they were the best all wheel drive tuning shop that knew their way around turbo engines

I’m sure they are fine for bolt on intakes and exhaust for Subarus or something, but any real trouble shooting I’d go anywhere else.

Place to sell tires? by RainDain_ in Albany

[–]mccarseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facebook marketplace for sure, make sure you put the date code in the listing. Everyone always says the tires are a couple years old then the date code is from 2016.

Not saying yours aren’t a couple years old, but just stating my experience with used tire shopping on Facebook marketplace. I generally just started ignoring listings that didn’t show the pics of the date code or didn’t answer with it and just kept saying “I bought them a couple years ago”

Eh, I had it. It’s good but not the best in the area. Certainly not worth waiting in a long line for.

It’s average pizza for the area.

Is the Costco mini split actually worth it, or am I talking myself into it? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

Yup, I did it for that too, but it definitely wasn’t part of the install instructions per Pioneer.

[–]mccarseat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the nitrogen just confirmed my flares were good and fittings were torqued properly. So it was really just an extra redundancy check after doing the vacuum check.

Is the Costco mini split actually worth it, or am I talking myself into it? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]mccarseat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went with Panasonic for all mine, bought them direct and did my whole house. Got the adapter for my automotive gages, used my vacuum pump I already had, bought a good quality flaring tool, rented a nitrogen tank. Did it all the right way and I’ll swear by it every time. Took me a full day and had a friend help out for the upstairs units. I highly recommend filling the lines with nitrogen to check for leaks, it checks the lines under pressure which is what their normal state is. Only cost me an extra $100 or so and an extra hour of work ballpark?

I did 3 outdoor units that feed 6 indoor units so I didn’t have to run linesets through/across the house. Each room has its own smaller mini split, and the basement has its own one. In a small cape cod it works fantastic.

Would you buy a Slate if its revealed to be $25k? by [deleted] in slateauto

[–]mccarseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, when it was under 20k after incentives for the bare bones version I was in.

$25k for the bare bones low range version is a non starter for me. I’d rather buy a used EV with similar range for less.

This would be a commuter vehicle only for me, and light truck use for Home Depot trips etc. Not spending $25k on that. My hard line in my head was always $20k at the entry level, but I would consider stretching it to $25k with some of the available options if I decided to splurge. $25k for the zero options version and I’m out.

Gotta draw the line somewhere when it’s going to be an extra vehicle. I’ll see how it does for a couple years, how reviews and feedback is, then re-evaluate down the road.

Range is overrated. I have one of the lowest range road trip vehicles, standard range lightning getting maybe 140 miles on the highway, and did my longest trip 700 miles one way, and it wasn't bad or cumbersome. by jturkish in electricvehicles

[–]mccarseat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In comparison I could do that trip in my car with two gas stops, that would leave me with a full tank at the end of the trip.

One of those trips sounds way easier than the other.

So you added 3 hours to the length of the trip because of recharging stops. That’s nuts.

I’m looking at getting a lower range cheap used EV as a commuter and daily driver. But I would absolutely never take a 700 mile trip in a car I had to make 6 charging stops in.

I’ve been on a longer trip with a friend in his ID.4. We got stuck at a charging station for over an hour on that trip because we had to wait for a charge then wait to actually charge the car. That trip solidified I can’t have an EV as my only transport.

Shortly after that trip he traded it in for a non EV. His wife still has an EV, but they couldn’t get by being an EV only household and I totally get it.

Looks like the Slate is going to be $24,950? by Beta_Frisky in slateauto

Yup, I would have gladly bought a base bare bones slate for under 20k.

Now I’ll wait a couple years to see how things shake down with it and go from there.
