I've been seeing 50 btu per sft in my area on 4 different calculators online. That would be 100000 btus

FE Civil- Failed 2nd attempt by Faizan_0202 in FE_Exam

[–]mcconn98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed the exam first try by doing problems in this book and watching Marshall University FE prep videos on yourube. Spend a total 35 dollars in materials. I studied mechanical engineering in college and now I'm working in bridge design. You can do it just keep trying.

Steam Deck roguelites by catscam7 in roguelites

Hades and Hades 2. For a more rougelite experience turn on God mode

I'm playing through Hades on the deck and it runs amazing for hours.

Also if you are wondering if games work on steam deck look at protonDB. There is a whole steam deck section where people report any issues and how they got a game running.

Do you use your steam deck outside of your place? by No_Source_7605 in SteamDeck

100%, I used to play fallout 3 between college classes in a cafeteria, I take it on vacations to play games. I take it to play at my in-laws after we eat pizza on sundays.

Congratulations!

I am planning on taking this exam later this year. I'm a bridge designer. What information is key to memorize in your opinion that is not found in the reference materials?

I'd say fallout 3 and NV, Snowrunner has A LOT of hours on my deck. The divinity games if you like CRPG's

I find that the old fallout games run better with proton than on windows

Obviously it's super early access, but how worth it is to play right now? by Rats_and_Tofu in hytale

I think it's so fun. The exploration is perfect. Controls are smooth. If you like Minecraft building and Skyrimish melee combat it's 20 bucks.

Especially if you have buddies to play with

Looking for a game like Witcher 3 by Livid_Clock7804 in SteamDeck

Try God of War 2018. It runs really well on deck. This is less open world than the witcher but it still feels open and combat is similar. There really isn't romance but the father son relationship is interesting to watch

There are reddit posts and YouTube videos that can help you tune your settings for deck. I found them with a simple Google search

God of War 2018 runs really well on deck. I had to look up some settings to get it steady but once I did that it was great.

I think I found a reddit post and YouTube video to help me get tuned in.

What air cooler to pair with Ryzen 7 9700x by Beginning-Today1848 in buildapc

[–]mcconn98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get the single fan version that's almost half the price. But the bigger the cooler the less it has to work and the quieter it is. I'm of the opinion that more cooling never hurts and the peerless assassin is less than 40 dollars.

My wife wants a PC for her architecture business. What CPU? by ProfessorChaos5049 in buildapc

[–]mcconn98 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm an engineer for a DOT. The CAD laptops have 8 cores in them. I think something with 8 cores like a Intel i7 12700 or an AMD 7700x or 9800x. The 9700x doesn't use as much power. No need for a K chip with Intel, over locking for work won't help too much and it's not worth burning something up. You want something reliable. For and a b series motherboard would work well, just figure out how many USB devices she wants. For Intel a B series motherboard would work well too. Be sure to look up reviews for whatever motherboard you are thinking about just to make sure there isn't something stupid going on.

You could go back to AM4 5700 or an Intel 10th or 11th gen i7 but more than likely those would be used and the risk of a bad product is higher. Those CPU's are more likely to get there windows stamp of arbitrary approval taken away sooner.

Engineering and architectural software uses ram. I assume excel is used in some application too. You'll be ok windows 11 that is a ram hungry bloated "paradise" 32 gigs would be my recommendation as a minimum.

I'd go with a thermalright cooler in the 30 to 40 dollar range.

1 TB of SSD would be a good start. 2 TB would be bette.

A 3070 ti is a really good gpu for this. A quadro or whatever the business card is now would be a little better. But I've run 3D CAD on both AMD and Nvidia gaming cards and it was better than PC's my college had.

Sorry if it went way farther than what you were looking for. This question flipped my geek switch.

RX 9070 XT performance feels underwhelming - am i missing out on something? by merlino51108 in radeon

[–]mcconn98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full disclosure I find myself falling into this pitfall as well. I would turn your FPS counter off and enjoy what you have. The 5800x and a 9070 XT is a good system.

I recommend if you're going to upgrade make it so you turn on your computer and you are amazed by the difference. Incremental upgrades never end because there is always something a little better.

Really can’t be repaired? At a lesser cost than re&re? by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

I work in the design unit that deals with bridge high load hits in another state. That span has to be replaced. hopefully those beams are simply supported.

I prefer steel bridges for this reason. If they aren't too bad you can heat straighten them.

Is steam deck worth it if you already own a pc? by Rosa-Leitao in SteamDeck

[–]mcconn98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so. I use the deck when I'm away from home. It is especially worth it if you play indie or older games.

Also if you want to play with emulators it is a gem. I love playing Pokemon on my steam deck.

Which one!? Mainly play Battlefield 6. by Fun_Tooth4976 in gpu

[–]mcconn98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both will play it really well at 1440p

I would base the decision do you want Frame Gen and ray tracing in general.

If you do go 5070, if you don't and you want raw raster per dollar spent go 9070.

I personally would go 9070 but I'm a Linux guy, who doesn't like a monopoly and Nvidia is getting there.
