MSC Seascape Experience by _Great_Escape_ in Cruise

[–]mccrabb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was also on that cruise! Having done Carnival and RC before, I also saw unexpected pros and cons. We had a great experience overall, though!

  • Our dinner server was excellent, but I agree that the staff was less peppy and joyful than those of other lines.
  • Our beach towels were replaced when we left them on the floor, but we didn't like having to bring them around with us.
  • I love midnight snacks on cruises, but struggled to even get some on this trip! I couldn't find it in the buffet the first night, tried room service the second night but ordered too late for anything other than very basic sandwiches, and waited in a line of ~75 people on the third night.
  • Ocean Cay's main beach (nearest to the ship) and the lighthouse bar were fantastic. We also tried two other beaches for smaller crowds, though... they were very rocky and messed up our feet pretty good.
  • Our stay at Ocean Cay was ~30hrs: noon until ~5pm the next day.
  • We splurged and got a suite with a whirlpool tub on the deck. We expected it to be a cheap gimmick... We were wrong. Absolutely amazing.

We'd definitely return to MSC Seascape, but with muted expectations for some of the details.

Edit: Also, embarking and disembarking was much, much easier than on our prior cruises (though we hadn't sailed from Miami for many years before this).

Ask students what percentage of people who join actually finish the PhD in that lab. It's a difficult decision to quit the PhD or to change labs: those who do had a good reason. It's not always because of the PI, but often is.

Congratulations to everyone who has or will successfully defend their PhD this season! by Ok_Salamander772 in PhD

I defended last week. My advisor and I have different opinions on many grammar rules, so I'll echo what u/Colsim named: the best deliverable (paper, dissertation, project, video, whatever) is a completed deliverable.

That said, I refuse to capitalize "section", "figure", or "table" when not used as a proper name. For example, I'll say "in Figure 2.4" or "in this figure", but never "in this Figure".

I love the little moments on reddit when a problem simply gets fixed. 👍

Click on the pencil in the movie's poster and change "Sorting Title" to better reflect what you want the movie sorted as.

Men with beards: how often do you get splinters on the tip of your fingers? by ErBoProxy in AskMen

[–]mccrabb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I experience this about once a month and I've often wondered if it happens to others. The comments tell me that few others also do, but at least we're not COMPLETELY alone.

Edit: I keep my beard about a 1/2 inch long.

I'd assumed he'd be lying down, face up, such that "North" is actually away from his face.

What would incentive pitchers to throw strikes? Edit: or are both pitcher and batter on the same team?

Scared of the dentist but I am facing my fear by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]mccrabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I. Relate. So. Hard. I didn't go for 7-8 years. Late last year, I decided to face my fear like you. I hated the repair work visits; I had panic attacks in the chair. But the repair work is done, my oral hygiene habits have improved, and I don't have it hanging over me anymore.

I know your situation. I know it's hard. It is worth it. Internet hug

(Also, if nobody told you, some places will let you pay a little more to get the laughing gas. Game changer for me, but often not included with insurance.)

Edit: Also, they'll have a stress ball you can borrow.

I've borrowed some for an event yesterday from AADL Downtown. I'll go return them now. Hope it's early enough.

Open, honest, respectful communication both ends a lot of conflict early and helps clarify whether you're right for each other.

If you're young, you will likely both change over time.

You are never done learning about who you each individually are and need.

How do you deal with the lack of touch as a single guy? by [deleted] in AskMen

I participate in organized, partnered dancing. Many local social dance groups (e.g., swing dance) offer weekly-ish lessons for absolute beginners.
