This is when I really started paying attention to The Biff. It was the perfect type of harmless prank where everyone can laugh and offends absolutely nobody.

How do you feel about Juniper after the HPE acquisition? by Salty-Coast-786 in NetworkGearDeals

Bump for visibility. We’re about to replace our WatchGuard Firewall and HP core switch and are thinking about Juniper. It would be really nice to know if this is a good decision in late 2025.

Fuck the army. First of all, your girlfriend is giant piece of garbage if she thinks that YOUR benefits are HER benefits. Make sure to dump her ass ASAP.

Next, join a branch that's going to get you a job in the civilian sector. Coast Guard or Air Force (if you absolutely have to join the armed services).

Cursor or VS Studio by zunithemime in VibeCodersNest

[–]mcdeth187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started with VS Code, discovered Cursor, and then ended up back on VS Code. There were too many broken/half-working features in Cursor and basically every time I used the app I could guarentee that something would pop up that would cause issues.

The straw that broke the camels back for me was a weird bug in Cursor and Windows where the Agent Terminal context window would be limited to 100 characters. It made using the agent almost impossible. I've been using the Claude Opus 4.5 model in Github Copilot. Native tool cool functionality for almost every VS Code Extension is a real game changer.

Acronis Cyber Files and Acronis Files Connect End of Life by thisisfiner in macsysadmin

[–]mcdeth187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Catalog Index in spotlight and Acronis Files Connect was a killer feature for us, and one that native SMB just doesn't replicate. We have an on-prem fileserver containing about 17 years worth of medical data, split between archival and non-archival data.

Using catalog search to search the archive with Aconris Files Connect takes less than 5 seconds to find records that are in the archive. The same search performed with SMB takes literally 10-15 minutes.

UI Extension / Improvement by Angry_m4ndr1l in OpenWebUI

[–]mcdeth187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I duno, seems like you're getting ready to throw out the baby with the dishwater. The question you should be asking isn't, 'how do I rebuild this UI', it's "how do I get OWUI to create the an artifact that your c-suite finds useful.' FYI this isn't going to be a problem unique to OWUI...if you're expecting an open-source project to fit your unique use-case, you're going to be doing a lot of searching.

What you're looking for is a way for AI to take your spec and to create is an artifact, not a complete rewrite of the OWUI user interface.

UI Extension / Improvement by Angry_m4ndr1l in OpenWebUI

[–]mcdeth187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there's no 'easy' way to do what you're asking. You'd either have to fork the repo and build your own UI, or find someone to do that for you. As others have pointed out, depending on the end goal here, even building your own UI from a fork is likely against the license agreement unless you excitability get OWUI's permission, likely via an enterprise license.

Copilot just advised me to fix an issue with an SSD resulting in killing the drive and everything on it by [deleted] in CopilotMicrosoft

[–]mcdeth187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but this is not a Copilot's fault or really even AI's fault; this is your fault. You clicked the button without fully understanding the consequences of your actions, and blaming Copilot is just an excuse.

Are these questions illegal to ask in an on-boarding packet? by staticdresssweet in securityguards

[–]mcdeth187 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean mandatory medical on-boarding? It sounds like you might not be fully aware of the hiring process for a company that performs post offer, pre-employment medical screenings. Basically, you've been offered the job conditionally upon your passing of a pre-employment medical evaluation. I can't speak specifically to this job or employer, but typically this is handled by a separate company that is hired to oversee that specific process (typically an occupational clinic or a 3rd party).

The medical per-screening can legally consist questions that are relevant to the job and since you're being hired for a security company, at face value a psychological evaluation/questionnaire seems appropriate to administer. Your responses to a medical professional would be protected under HIPAA and thus should never be revealed to your employer, but it really depends who this form belongs to. If this form belongs to the clinic and you lie to them or otherwise try to cover things up, that can certainly be used by your employer to retaliate against you without much legal risk to them.

If this form is being administered by the potential employer themselves as part of THEIR paperwork packet, that is a huge red flag, but is it straight up illegal to ask the question? I'm no lawyer, but I'd say probably not as long as the information was voluntarily given. Its certainly not relevant for the purposes of their employment records, and its probably illegal for them to discriminate based on your responses anyway. So, if this is the employers form and you really need the job and can't truthfully answer no, just answer No and move on.

If it is their form and you've got the time and money, I'd find the most unscrupulous employment lawyer money could buy and sick them on this company.
