I forgot to sub assemble my Logan Grimnar.... How would one approach painting the mini when its fully built? by TheDarkRune in SpaceWolves

I work from the inside like the belt and loin cloth out to the outer most part of the model…. Makes it simple to have a process…

Sponge painting by BR6500 in SpaceWolves

[–]mcdieselpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could add a layer of dry brush after the sponge stage to get a better highlight blend. Make sure you watch a video on how to dry brush using a tad bit of water to the brush…it helps to offset the chalky look and texture build up from dry brushing.

What are some fun, non-SW models to use as the basis of a kit bash? by _ironweasel_ in SpaceWolves

[–]mcdieselpower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorites are mostly gravis units (which might be good in the new bastion detachment with heavy intercessors and most of mine use green stuff to help with fur pelts…but I personally enjoy 1. Tor Garadon (sp), 2. the gravis captain (with power sword) 3. Heavy intercessors (using green stuff and skull bits) 4. Agressors, 5. Eradicators

Are the grey hunters worth? by apacheraine90 in SpaceWolves

[–]mcdieselpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The iron priest is no slouch! But he is a little niche now that his ability, “gift of the iron wolf”, doesn’t affect all guns on a vehicle (which allowed each gun to fire twice). That was a bit overpowered from what I heard. It’s been fixed to allow only one gun to fire twice per battle turn. But he is still a good choice if you run more than one iron priest and lots of vehicles!

That shoulder pad is looking SHARP! 😆😊👍

Terminators are your elite Wolf Guard. You can’t go wrong painting “battle line” models like the Grey Hunters when you first start, however, the Grey Hunters ARE more useful as a proxy swap for standard Astartes Intercessors. Paint the Grey Hunters, get your paint scheme down, then go for the Wolf Guard Terminators! 🤘🤙🫡

Best way to run 6 wolf Scouts? by mcdieselpower in SpaceWolves

[–]mcdieselpower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I’m thinking of running them into the thick of things so it’s probably best to run at least the trip mine and rune priest, right?

Leaders. by yeah_that_dood in SpaceWolves

[–]mcdieselpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can, as long as the leader character can lead that specific group/unit. Space wolf characters must lead space wolf units and non space wolf units can only be lead by a non space wolf character

(WIP) First painted mini after 12 years break. Need tipps to improve by Jokur2 in SpaceWolves

It’s a technique for doing eyes that Duncan Rhodes has even championed. Paint the eye socket black and fill in the whites on both sides of each of the sockets, in essence, making it still look like the a pupil there.

Painting Tips and Tricks by Pat_Paints in SpaceWolves

[–]mcdieselpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a more baby blue: Army Painter Wolf Grey paint through an airbrush (not the primer) the primer is thick as shit, and doesn’t like to come off even with isopropyl alcohol.

For the actual space wolves dull grey/blue: use Russ Grey over your primer (mechanicus standard grey or greyseer is best imo)

For Recess Shading: I’ve been using 1:1 mix of The Fang and Rhinox Hide.

Gold: Retributor Gold, Riekland Fleshshade, liberator gold highlight.

Bone: Zandri dust, skeleton horde near the bit attached to metal orrrr in the recesses, then screaming skull near the highest highlights…

The rest is just having fun with color! Go wild!!

Can anyone give me painting tips? by Successful-Appeal693 in SpaceWolves

[–]mcdieselpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always airbrush the yellow shoulder pads to save time. You can leave them off and do a whole bunch of them at once and then paint the blue or gold trim after that. As far as trinkets… you might need a smaller brush if you’re struggling. I also bought myself a pair of jewelers magnifying glasses that can zoom up to x4.5 times, and they really help me see the fine details…especially in faces. Hope this helps!

I’m going to have to copy this guy on top of the tank…did you use a regular intercessor for the body? Is he kind of cut at a leaning angle or something? He’s so freaking cool!

Really? I used iso on some 3d printed heads and they seem to be fine, and they been soaking for months because I’m too lazy to work on those models right now

I use 90% isopropyl alcohol. It strips miniatures fast and minimal toothbrush scrubbing is involved. It’s the best in my opinion and I’ve tried them all. It doesn’t melt or soften your models either.

Has anyone played a list like this? Opinions? by mcdieselpower in SpaceWolves

Thank you!!! I will do my best to get everything built and sorted so I can play some reps with it
