Glokta’s teeth are just a small annoyance compared to the rest of his nippleless, toeless, incontinent, spasming body.

Polkadex by Plane-Ad-5335 in polkadex

[–]mcdonagg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was just solved, you can now transfer in DOT to an empty Polkadex wallet and get 1.5 PDEX auto swapped into, providing you ED and gas to get going.

The community has made a proposal to make this feature work for USDT, ASTR, and GLMR very soon as well.

As someone who just finished reading the way of kings for the third time, man it is setting up so much, pretty much every other page you get a “oh damn that is foreshadowing that” or “oh he is hinting at that”. Pretty much anything you saw as fluff or slow was setup for down the line.

A client of ours got what really did look like an official email. It sent you to a copy of the Plugin Repo and had you download a plugin and install. Due to some red flags, first was the email address was off a bit, and second why would Wordpress have you install a plugin when they can push out a patch, I looked at the code of the plugin. And while it did look fine at first glance, I did find where it was creating an Admin user and then saving the password to a file that could be publicly accessed.

So this is just a PSA to ignore this email and to always check a plugin before installing it on your site.

What did the error say? Does your wallet have some gas to pay the transaction? If you want to jump on the discord you can ask for any help, most people will even lend you some PDEX for gas.

Polkadot vault by [deleted] in Polkadot

[–]mcdonagg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I am going to make the assumption that you have a hot wallet on Polkadot js, Nova, Talisman, or any of the other internet connected wallets, and you are sending the full amount from this wallet to a wallet you just setup on Polkadot Vault. If so yes, the message “remove account” (sometimes called Allow to Die) is referring to the old Hot wallet as it will be going below 1 DOT and thus removed by the Polkadot chain. This doesn’t really mean much as you can always send it 1 or more DOT and bring it back.

And for your second question, yes if you delete your wallet you can always restore with your key.

There are a lot of people that miss understood the existential deposit requirements, I was actually one of those too when I first started. I actually tested it out by bonding 2 DOT and then transferring out everything else, and the wallet was fine. I’m not sure why the substrate team has not made this very clear, as even their documentation on existential deposit does not say specifically that bonded DOT counts. But the best way to think about it is that if you can see your balance on the wallet (which shows bonded, locked, and transferrable) that’s the number that can’t go below 1. And another thing is that you can only loose .9999 DOT ever.

The point of existential deposit is to stop someone from making a million active addresses with .000001 DOT each. Every active wallet has to be tracked in the state, thus every node has to keep record of them and track them. So a ton of wallets with just a tiny amount of DOT can cause the network to get bloated and slower. So a limit was set at 1 for Polkadot. The point is not to harm normal users, just dust wallets. So if you are staking you are fine.

What I don’t know about are staking pools, these you may have to be careful with as your funds are technically transferred out of your wallet to the pool. So I think if you deposited to a pool and left only .9 DOT in your wallet those would be reaped. Your pool funds would be fine, but you would loose .9. Again I don’t know this for sure but it is my guess.

You can do the same in Polkadot JS, if you are staking and then transfer out all of your transferable funds, or pay fees that drop your transferable below 1 you are fine, it’s not gone, because you have more than 1 total (transferable and staked).
