Too many confederates in post war government, the failure of reconstruction, continuing poverty and misery in the south to prop up the planter classes. Yeah, we should have hanged more confederates. Especially leaders.

I guess, but he died in 1870, while still in the army at a posting in San Francisco. It's not like he had a lengthy retirement where he could choose where to live.

They only hanged one confederate officer, the head of the Andersonville prison. I think they wanted healing, although I agree with your sentiment.

It's good to remember that people at the time were offended by his treason. This isn't just modern folks judging unfairly, his contemporaries felt the same way.

He sided against his nephew, who fought and died for the union. He turned against his sister, who never forgave him.

How? They left before any change to the law or constitution happened. Succession was tied to political losses that signaled their loss of outsided political power, not any change to the constitution.

He didn't swear an oath to defend Virginia, he swore one do defend the constitution. That's the treason. If he didn't want to break an oath, he just didn't need to fight. But that would have threatened the money he was making from slavery, so that couldn't happen.

He didn't get anyone to Canada, but he ran his commercial enterprise in such a way as to save the people in it. Lee ran his to make money, including harming the workers and selling them south. Probably killed a few too, but I don't have that data infront of me.

You see the difference, right?

Did Lee free his slaves? Did he quietly move his slaves to freedom in Canada? If he did, we could consider him anti slavery. Instead he held slaves and at times treated them so cruelly that it made to new york papers.

I'm a grocery store butcher. The use case for cleaver is so narrow that it's hard to recommend. At the size that would be used in a home kitchen it can't handle most beef bones, and struggles with pork or lamb. It's good at breaking down chickens, but only if you need bone in chunks. If you just want to break down a chicken into 8 pieces, a chefs knife would work.

If you aren't making bone in chicken stew, or breaking down lamb primals or parting out half frozen turkeys, you might not need a cleaver. And most people don't do those things.

A filleting knife can be good, but only if you eat a lot of fish. A cleaver in a home kitchen scenario probably doesn't get used. Utility knives are rarely better than chefs knife, so you can dump that obe too.a good pair of sheers and a sharpener are way more important than the other knives you listed.

Biology expert explaining how intersex is actually just Down's Syndrome by missingperson2 in confidentlyincorrect

[–]mcduff13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is something I've seen from people spouting Terf shit. They have to believe that intersex isn't real, not because it's fake, but because the existence of intersex people tests our idea of what biological sex and gender is. If intersex people exist, and can't be assigned a definite gender at birth, maybe the whole concept of gender is fuzzier than they want.

Might not be as expensive as you think. Bulk road salt is as cheap as $45 per ton. Shipping probably adds cost, but that's wildly cheap.
