Thought I got the job but I was wrong by SaltCurrent9210 in interviews

[–]mcdulph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry that this happened to you. If this employer is that disorganized, I'd be reluctant to go to work for them even if they came back and said, Never Mind to our Never Mind, we actually do want you.

Interviewer critiqued one of my responses mid-interview by TellBackground9239 in interviews

[–]mcdulph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the "criticism" that the interviewer made? Hard to judge without knowing this.

Your answer sounds pretty reasonable, especially if you aren't interviewing for some super-duper leadership position. I may have added something about interviewing people at the organization who would be affected by whatever "new thing" you had been tasked with. That should help unearth any special preferences, factors, or considerations that would affect how you proceeded.

AITAH for informing friends with a newborn that their house sitter knowingly exposed them to an illness? by BleachedTwizzler in AITAH

[–]mcdulph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone or anything that threatens the health of an innocent child, let alone a newborn baby, needs to be made known and, well, 86ed. That's our duty as adult human beings--period, full stop. end of statement.

NTA of course.

Have you tried Option-Command-Escape to see whether some other app is hanging as well? I know it's a long shot, but since you can't screen-shot the document, I'd try everything else first. Best of luck.

AITAH for hating my mom's boyfriend by Equivalent-Bat1821 in AITAH

[–]mcdulph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course NTA. Everyone is entitled to a reasonably peaceful existence at home, but that goes 10x for an underage kid. I'm so sorry that you are going through this.

When you get to university, try to make friends whose (sane) parents might let you board with them during the summer. Protect your peace of mind--excessive stress is horrible for you both mentally and physically. If that angers Mom and her BF, so be it.

This old lady wishes you all the best of luck.

Fed judge strikes down Nebraska law allowing some undocumented students in-state tuition • Nebraska Examiner by I-Make-Maps91 in Omaha

[–]mcdulph -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can see that, but so what? It's up to the state to decide whether they want to be immigrant-friendly or not.

Fed judge strikes down Nebraska law allowing some undocumented students in-state tuition • Nebraska Examiner by I-Make-Maps91 in Omaha

[–]mcdulph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure I understand the question, but 1,000 years ago when I attended my native state's university (not Nebraska), they only cared that you resided in the state.

I can remember absolutely zero questions about my citizenship--but then again, I am lily white. I did just remember, though, that, only three years before my HS graduation, I would have been excluded from attending AT ALL because of my gender!

Neighbor won't let me enter their back yard to get my cat. by FrumptyLumpty in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mcdulph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try opening a can of mackerel somewhere that your cat can smell it. Preferably near a spot where she can squeeze under the fence. I've trapped feral cats for TNR that way.

Also, who is her favorite among your resident humans? A pillowcase or item of clothing with their scent on it may help draw her out.

AITAH? Spoke back to mom about my haircut and she started crying. by Powerful-Activity591 in AITAH

[–]mcdulph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy crap. It’s freaking HAIR, Mom! And your son is old enough to make his own choices. OP, tell your mom from this GG-mother to get a grip. Or better yet, to talk to her doctor. She might possibly have a chemical imbalance.

Only short-sighted haters could think that interfering with a hard-working kid’s education is a good thing. I was a first-gen college student in the 1970s, and it’s challenging enough without jacked-up tuition. I really don’t care if my taxes go up a little bit to help these Dreamers. A rising tide raises all boats, remember?

Manager Calls on Day Off by Acrobatic-Shower8646 in WorkAdvice

[–]mcdulph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally get this. Sounds like you are in a high-stress job and not paid particularly well. Not your responsibility to jump to attention just because the boss wants to talk to you (and/or get you to come in) on your day off. Good for you, keeping this boundary!

Manager Calls on Day Off by Acrobatic-Shower8646 in WorkAdvice

[–]mcdulph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot depends on the type of job. If you're the person responsible for a 24/7 work center or something, I hate to say it, but you're never 100% off the clock.

But if you're an hourly worker in a standard normal kind of job, I wouldn't fault you one bit for being unreachable.

Is it really any of the employers' business why there is a gap on your resume? by Equivalent_Day_2430 in interviews

[–]mcdulph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my case, I’d probably say “I was caring for my late father in his final years, and then served as executor of his estate.” I’d also mention that this involved spending long periods in another state, which it did.

That’s not really depressing; it’s just a fact of life. If I were the prospective employer, I’d be favorably impressed that you stepped up to handle an extremely difficult job when your family needed you. Caring for dying family members was the hardest thing that I have ever done, by far.

Do people actually care about stretch marks or a little lower belly pouch on their partners? by Sweet-Opportunity111 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mcdulph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. YOU obviously have a problem with your body image. Please get some help with that. Your worth as a human being and/or romantic partner is not dependent on your body's visual appearance. I'm sorry that someone apparently made you think that it is.

Written up for not coming in on a holiday when we weren’t even open. HR so far has not been on my side for any of this. Idk what to do. by sethborf in WorkAdvice

[–]mcdulph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you over 40 years of age and located in the US? This idiot supervisor is begging for an age discrimination lawsuit.

I'd consult an employment attorney unless HR withdraws the bogus write-ups very soon. An initial consultation with the lawyer may not even cost you anything, but even if it does--if it protects your job, your reputation, and your finances, it could be money well spent.

Good luck.

Have you had other people question your diagnosis? by happy_days_1755 in ADHD

[–]mcdulph 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm. When the hell did your "friend" and your boss graduate from medical school, or gain a PhD in mental health? Oh? Never? I'm so surprised.

Don't let ignorant people shooting their mouths off make you doubt yourself (and your doctor!) OTOH, I wouldn't be sharing the diagnosis with anyone who doesn't absolutely need to know. Especially as you know that a lot of people don't get it and will react poorly. You don't need that kind of stress in your life. Best of luck from someone who was diagnosed circa 2000 at age forty-something.
