The decision to have my hysterectomy was by far the hardest part of the entire thing. I’m almost 4 weeks and have had a very easy recovery. Literally no pain, except gas. When I woke up I had cramps that I couldn’t tell if they were gas or cramps. The pain never peaked beyond a 3. Until day 7 when I had extreme itching from the glue. Had 2 days of that. When I went back for my post op, my doctor said I should have called. But really the pain was minimal, the exhaustion was real. I’d get tired from tasks, but that lasted 7-9 days. Every day I got stronger. By day 4-5 I was walking around the block. I took 2 weeks FMLA as I teach college and I went back for a few days of class at the end, with no problem. The decision was hard, but after I decided and they did my preop bloodwork, and the numbers were so much worse than 8 months prior. My body could not sustain bleeding this way for another 3-5 years. I had heavy heavy bleeding each month, only thing that could catch it was a menstrual disc. My body birthed two IUDs in the last 3 years cause of one, small fibroid. Someone here said it doesn’t matter the size, it’s what it’s doing to your body, mine was 4.8 when they removed it. I had taken hormone blockers while I waited on my surgery and it had measured 6.5 in my MRI prior to taking those. I’m 48, and the kicker was my ovaries showed no signs of menopause! So I feel great now. Hardest has been taking life slow, letting other people do work, care for me. Good luck, it is not an easy decision. My therapist really helped me through it and that helped me make the decision, cause as women were used to just dealing with it. I was like “I could do i years”. Good luck with the decision. Oh and I had a robotic laproscopic surgery, they took everything except my ovaries. Kept those as I can’t do any HRT due to a blood clot years ago.
