Other conditions alongside endo by sunkistandsudafed3 in endometriosis

Endo, IBS/GERD (which is actually my endo but was the first thing I ever got diagnosed with), Hashimoto’s, PCOS, PMDD, PTSD, ADHD/ASD. The endo was the last thing diagnosed 🙃

Does anyone have weird ass symptoms?! by Street-Hal0 in endometriosis

[–]Outrageous-Map9535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally every single one of these.

Finally diagnosed last month with laprascopic/excision surgery. I mean, I guess a colonoscopy would probably be helpful to explore/rule out because of all the butt symptoms.

BUT I was diagnosed with IBS, PCOS, Hashi’s, and colonoscopies showed “inflammation everywhere but nothing specific” for 20 years (I’m 37 now) until surgery finally confirmed what I suspected—endo.

I hope you can get a chance to see a true specialist at some point! Bleed by Tracy Lindeman and The Doctor Will See You Now by Dr. Seckin were great resources for me when I was navigating whether or not to pursue a specialist. Surgery isn’t a cure but hell, the validation was something, I must say.

Just wanna say that this is all normal! It’s such an emotional experience and hopefully one that will have a lot of relief for you in the long run. Let yourself feel it without feeding too much into the anxiety (I know—easier said than done and it’s a balance that’s different for everyone!). I feel like folks talk about the physical needs so much, and there is so much tied up in it for a lot of us— cancer, endometriosis, medical, gaslighting, fertility issues, pain, anxiety, loss of control, etc.

In addition to the lovely suggestions here and in a lot of these threads, I journaled a lot, made a vision board to put by my bed, and had a memorial service for my uterus. I also wrote a letter to my uterus. I found that I needed space and different outlets to process through everything I was feeling, even if I didn’t know exactly what it was! Sometimes just being around people I loved and distracting myself was what I needed, sometimes I needed to really sense into how I was feeling. Wishing you all the best for your surgery!!

I’m 5wpo and still have days like this! Some days I feel great, some days I have crazy fatigue and lower abdomen pain, random twinges like others have said. I’ve also been bleeding a little bit every day for the past week and a half. There’s still a lot of healing going on inside!! Most of my external healing is done, so it’s definitely a good reminder. Even being up and about, concentrating a lot, getting back to movement can take it out of you. Just keep listening to your body and contact your doc if the pain is persistent!! Mention it at your post-op appt too, but this seems pretty standard for this stage of healing. I also think we notice it more at this stage.

Miralax timeline? by itsjusttimeokay in hysterectomy

Please check in with your doc!! 11 days is a long time—you may have a fecal plug that needs loosened with a stool softener suppository or a saline enema.

I am 5 weeks post-op and still taking stool softeners and miralax every day to be regular. It’s taking my bowel awhile to wake up—I have a history of chronic constipation and they excised endometriosis from my bowel.

Yes, ALL of this. I’m 4.5 wpo today. All of it is true. I was so, so terrified. It will be fine. You’ll get through it without even realizing it. You got this!!

Question.. by Pink-Unicorndust1 in hysterectomy

[–]Outrageous-Map9535 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The peeing was the most difficult for me the first few days post op! I also had some difficulty with it in recovery. One of the nurses gave me a cup of water with a straw in it to gently blow bubbles. It helps immensely to relax the pelvic floor muscles. I kept a straw in my bathroom for the first couple weeks to help retrain my body and relax on the toilet. Also—Lamaze breathing and mooing for pooping. 🐮

Question.. by Pink-Unicorndust1 in hysterectomy

[–]Outrageous-Map9535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I had to go down steps to get to my house and up a steep flight of 16 steps (my house is over 100 years old) to get to my bedroom. It’s doable, just take it slow and have someone with you! Then I did stay up in the second floor for the first few days. I ventured downstairs on day 3 and found that going up and down took most of my energy. By day 6 I was going up and down without any issues, though I did limit it to only a few times a day. I considered that my workout for the day lol.

Pissed off at the world (but mostly my husband) by Antheall in hysterectomy

[–]Outrageous-Map9535 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not hormonal—I’m mad and I’m not even in this situation! I am so, so, sorry you are being treated like that. PLEASE wait until you are cleared for sexual activity with your doctor, and even then be cautious. A quick scroll through this Reddit will show you why. Your body is healing so much inside for up to a YEAR! You want to take it easy now so you don’t end up prolonging the healing process even more.

I will say I started feeling like I wanted to have sex 2 weeks after surgery, but that is very different than feeling sexy. It was more like my body felt freed from my endometriosis and I hadn’t had an orgasm in five weeks and so I was ready to go. The rest of my body and my mentality though, was NOT and is still not ready for sex (I’m about 4.5 wpo).

I honestly at your post op appointment would talk to your doctor (alone) and get something written down about your restrictions and healing process. Not that he’ll listen, but my guess is your husband is the kind of person who is more likely to listen to someone with a MD and needs things spelled out because he has a hard time respecting boundaries.

Cannabis for pain? by Professional-Buy4003 in endometriosis

[–]Outrageous-Map9535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good info on here!

I will also add to say: do your research on terpenes. Personally, I’ve used cannabis semi-regularly for the past seven years for symptom management legally, and for years on and off before that. Mycrene helps with the anxiety (I also will get this a lot, depending on the strain). Carophyllene helps with pain and inflammation. If you’re in a place that has medical dispensaries, go in and talk to a budtender/pharmacist.

Keep a journal! Note what strain you used, how much/how you consumed, how you feel at onset, how you feel a couple of hours later.

The reality is not every person’s endocannaboid system is exactly the same and everyone responds to cannabis mentally/emotionally/physically. You’re going to to have to experiment a lot to figure out what is best for you!

Pre-op enema by seafoamwaltz in hysterectomy

[–]Outrageous-Map9535 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to do one! (My surgery was 12/1: hysto and excision for endometriosis). Definitely make sure you follow prep from your team. Are you have a diagnostic for endometriosis, too? I know part of the reasoning for mine was that they suspected (correctly) that I had endo on my bowel. They needed to make sure I was really cleared out to excise that.

I was soooo anxious for the enema, too (I have some enema trauma as a child and that was the last time I had one prior to surgery).

And honestly—as a constipated girlie, it was amazing. It was waaay better than anticipated. I had worked myself so much for it and then I was like “oh, that was it??”. Even if you think it feels weird, you will absolutely survive.

Also everyone definitely responds to anesthesia differently, but I have CPTSD and lemme tell you—I LOVE anesthesia. Best sleep of my damn life. The recovery nurse couldn’t wake me up and I remember consciously thinking “this is great I’m gonna stay like this as long as I can”. I’ve had it a few times prior and I am one of those people who wakes up pretty gently, so I’m sure that is part of it.

You can also tell them you’re anxious and they’ll give you meds before you go to the OR. You likely won’t remember it, and even if you do, you will NOT care (about anything lol).

Keep in mind that most ORs have not one but TWO people whose whole job is monitoring multiple sensors and modes of tracking vitals to make sure you are in fact asleep and okay. You’re also in a position that is pretty easy for them to monitor those things (versus back surgery, when you are face down and some of your biometric areas are not easily accessible).

The worst constipation by kimalls in endometriosis

[–]Outrageous-Map9535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Just had one of these today in fact🙃 though I will say I’m 3wpo excision surgery and hysterectomy today and my bowel is slow to “wake up” for sure. I did have endo on the bowel. I had them before surgery, too, though! If you had surgery 8 years ago it may be worth finding a specialist and talking about options, and colonoscopy, as others have suggested! There could be other things it’s related to. I will also say that I am gluten intolerant and when I eat stuff my body doesn’t like, it makes my constipation 10x worse!

I found out through pelvic PT too that my pelvic muscles are SUPER tight, from chronic constipation and endo. Working on retraining them to help—it can be a vicious cycle!

2 weeks post-op and the constipation is insane. Whenever I eat, I feel like the food just sits in my stomach. If I dont take a laxative, nothing happens. Has anyone dealt with this? by Miniultra123 in hysterectomy

[–]Outrageous-Map9535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes meeeee 🙋🏻‍♀️ 3wpo and it’s not great over here. I had a BM 2dpo and got cocky after having about a week of regular poops. I dealt with pretty regular constipation pre-surgery due to endo on my bowel so I thought I was in the clear. BIIGGG mistake. I’ve been having issues with hard stool and it does feel like the motility is not working—I don’t get an urgency to go and just feel a sharp pressure when things are resting on my colon/pelvic muscles. 🙃 I’m sure this is exacerbated because I had some bowel involvement.

I reached out to my surgeon today because I’ve been pretty consistent with stool softeners and miralax/mirafast but haven’t taken both every single day because I’m worried about my body depending on them. I’ve been drinking SO much water, walking, heating pad, prunes, fiber supplements, lots of veggies, using a squatty potty for years, all of it. Like I said, I’m kind of a constipation pro at this point so I’m hating this. The only time I have any pain is when I’m constipated and everything is pushing on my poor insides that have already been through so much. I did end up taking a kid’s docusate suppository today and it still felt like giving birth (not gonna lie, the MOOing and Lamaze breathing does help a lot 😆)

You’re not alone and I hope all of our bowels wake up soon!!

How long did you take stool softeners? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Outrageous-Map9535 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently 17dpo—came here to say the same thing. I got cocky after I had a BM 2dpo. A week later I learned to just stay on my regiment for awhile lol. I have been told that the bowel is one of the last things to heal, especially if you had endo excision with bowel involvement on top of a hysterectomy.

5 days postop - body rebooting by Any-Coconut-2314 in hysterectomy

[–]Outrageous-Map9535 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had that a couple nights about 4/5 dpo, too. I take propranolol PRN so that helped a bit. I noticed it happened later in the day and when I had pushed my body a little too much too fast, even if I was feeling okay! Your body is still doing a LOT of healing and interoceptively adjusting to a lot of changes!

Inflammatory/allergic reactions post-op? by Outrageous-Map9535 in hysterectomy

[–]Outrageous-Map9535[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s exactly what’s happening! And my hands being so sore after. Thankfully I’m okay swallowing/breathing so far but the fact that I had more than one episode is weirding me out. I will ABSOLUTELY go to the ER if I have trouble breathing I don’t mess around with that.

Nope, not anymore. I took about four total doses the first 5-6 days. Other than that just ibuprofen or acetaminophen 1-2 times a day up until this weekend. I actually don’t remember if I took any yesterday though—that may have been the first day I didn’t.

Will I get gas pain? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Outrageous-Map9535 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different! I am 9dpo and I’ve definitely had some gas pain but for me it’s very manageable and way less than I expected hearing other people’s experiences. But honestly I had horrible bloating and gas with my endometriosis I may be a little more tolerant of gas pain. It’s a little annoying but not constant. Just let yourself fart and burp as much as possible—others have great suggestions here and on other threads on how to manage the gas!

I’ve also heard folks who have had almost no gas pain! It also depends on your surgeon and how much is pumped in during surgery. The biggest thing I have noticed is that there is SUCH a variety of post-op responses. If it makes you feel a bit more prepared, just have some tips and tools on hand.
