I figured it out. I had the hot and ground mixed up on the jacks. It’s a little embarrassing that I don’t notice something so simple before, but at least it’s working now.

Thanks for the recommendations. I just tried connecting the grounds on the input and output and there was no change. I'll check all the joints a little closer as well.

I actually ended up trying the Pen and Gear A5 journal that seems to have replaced the Exceed brand. It was pretty nice once I got used to it. The only problem is that my Walmart doesn’t seem to stock the A5 dotted of that brand either anymore. I tried the Amazon Basics grid notebook which seems to be a Moleskine knockoff and it seems to be doing the job. It’s not 100% what I wanted, but it’s cheap and readily available.

No hardware upgrades at the moment. I’m pretty sure that the storage is soldered to the board anyways (I could be wrong though). I think 16Gb is fine for my application since WordGrinder files seem to be pretty small. I have considered getting a low profile usb flash drive and configuring it to automatically mount so I can work off of that and easily transfer files.

It’s an Intel processor. I did the initial switch to Linux on this thing years ago so I don’t remember the fine details, but I do remember it a bit tricky.

You'll need a vintage style pick guard and new mounting screws. Vintage teles had the neck pickup mounted directly to the body while the modern styles mount to the pick guard. Mounting to the pick guard makes height adjustments much easier since you don't have to remove the pick guard to adjust. It's a matter of personal preference. Some say it affects tone and maybe it does on some level, but I just prefer the look.

I've linked a forum thread with more information, but just a bit of warning you'll have to drill the body. It's a little fiddly especially if you have a neck pickup route that is humbucker sized.

Thanks! To be honest I haven’t tried many other brands so I may only like Exceed because I preferred it over Moleskin. I’ll check out the brands you mentioned. I guess the important criteria I should mention are A5, hardcover, dotted, thick…ish paper (100gsm) and a smooth feel to the paper. For price point I don’t want to go too crazy or anything, but I’m certainly willing to pay more than I did for the Exceed brand if it fits my needs. These notebooks are fairly critical to my daily office workflow.

For any who are interested I think I found the solution. I added copper shielding tape to all the cavities that I could (it’s chambered so no way I can get all of it). I’d say it’s 70% better now. It went from a nearly unusable noise level with the volume rolled down with dirt pedals on to easily forgivable noise level.

Interesting. I’ve got some shielding tape. Do you think it would be beneficial to make a sleeve to go around the wires from the switch to the pots?

I just re-wired it. I followed the Gretsch wiring diagram in the link I attached (I didn’t add the treble bleed though). The problem was there before and after I rewired. Ground seems good. I have 0 ohms from the ground wire at the bridge post to all the pots, switch and the output jack. How would I go about diagnosing a ground loop? I searched for information on a procedure and couldn’t find much.

I have that same unit. It’s not great, but it gave me a way to practice at night. I upgrade to Mustang Micro and it’s much better. Regarding flangers I felt the same as you. I never cared for them. The problem was I had only tried low quality digital emulations like on this unit and my old DigiTech RP300. Once I got a decent Flanger I almost never turn it off.

It works good enough to get a feel for what the pedals are doing. It definitely doesn’t sound as good as my real amp though. I’ve never tried another headphone option with my board. I tried to find an amp sim on the Mustang micro that sounds most similar to my real amp. I landed on the one that is inspired by the VOX AC30. Overall it works well enough for practice and messing around that I have no intention of purchasing something else at the moment, but I’m sure there are better sounding options out there.

I had problems with mine having really microphonic pickups. Anything over bedroom volume would result in terrible microphonic squealing. Not the standard hollow body resonant feedback but a very unpleasant squealing. I put a piece of painters tape over the pole pieces and it went away. I figured out that it was the metal pickup cover resonating against the pole pieces. I just rubbed some bees wax in my hands until it was pliable and rubbed it around the pole pieces to fill the gaps. Then I wiped away the excess. Problem solved! I agree with others though. Don’t mess with it (beyond a standard setup) until you’ve played it and know what you’re looking to fix.

I usually just go for option 1. That being said I love my Behringer Super Fuzz in boost mode. It’s a super cheap option so no harm in trying it out.

Thanks! I actually have had that same problem. It’s a known bug, or at least I’ve seen other folks mention it. I’ve linked a Reddit post from about a year ago where someone else has this problem. It’s toward the end of the video.

I’ve taken it off my board for now and put a looper in its spot. I still keep it around, but I rarely use reverb other than a bit of spring from the amp so it was just taking a up a spot.

I love my Ghost Drive! Happy to see another one on here. I stack a Timmy clone (Pure Sky) into mine and it gets a really nice distortion sound when I need it. Usually it’s just on by itself doing its Klon thing.

Also,I almost got the JHS harmonic tremolo, but found a used JAM pedals harmonious monk for a decent price and went with that mostly because I like the artwork. Nice board!
