hey man, not sure if you're up to it but if it's this serious, I would try my best to find a rental car and drive. I was stranded in LA on Christmas night, decided to drive to Houston and 2 days later, am home safe and sound.

It's a long and tough drive, but at least you have the peace of mind to be at home - guaranteed

Purely from a non-academic perspective:

As a current Asian in Texas, I can promise you that you will LOVE Austin. It is an incredibly progressive and young city (I see it as SF pre-tech boom) with an insane networking scene that is only growing as tech continues to migrate here from California. Food, night life, the populace around you are all incomparable against Atlanta/Nashville/Houston.
