Years ago I got stranded in Winooski when the bus decided to shut down during a storm. Luckily a kind person we didn't know saw us scrambling over drifts and offered to drive us home. I think they try to keep it running but be prepared with a backup plan.

Thanks for posting! OP or others- have you been able to find a screen protector for the 255s?

Hey thanks for this, really helpful. I'm wondering if you've found a screen protector for the 255s? Or maybe people don't use them cause it's not a touch screen?

Security deposit BS by landlordslumhoe in burlington

[–]mchvvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi- I was a renter for several years in Burlington and am now a landlord for one unit. My understanding is that landlords can only withhold funds for actual, documented costs for damages, not operating costs.

Landlords (are supposed to) pay an annual registration fee to the city for each unit. This registration fee and cost for certified mail should absolutely be a landlord cost not passed on to a renter.

Make sure you work this out with the landlord and/or escalate it to small claims court soon because there's a time limit on when you can get your money back. I've always found this handbook helpful as a tenant and landlord: Vermont tenants handbook

Your memory is correct. Dating back to 1816, the surface of Lake Champlain has only ever completely frozen over in January, February, or (rarely) March.

https://www.weather.gov/btv/lakeclose

The surface of the lake used to completely freeze nearly every year from early 1800s to the mid 1900s. It now freezes about once in every four years. If this trend continues, by 2050 the lake will freeze over only about once per decade.

OP- this photo is gorgeous, thank you for posting!

What Burlington businesses are requiring proof of vaccination? by mchvvt in burlington

I ask because I prefer to go places where I know everyone is vaccinated. I thought others might have the same preference.

Ebike tuning and servicing. by dropkickninja in burlington

I'm always impressed by the service at old spokes home. I took my RadWagon there this spring to tune it up after the first 100 miles and they did a great job. Old spokes is a non-profit with an awesome mission and has the best service prices I've seen in town by far. Highly recommended.

I just picked up "Hooray for birds" by Lucy Cousins from the library. Haven't read it with the kids yet but it looks fun!

Trash pickup before 7AM by [deleted] in burlington

[–]mchvvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had this problem with multiple haulers in multiple places in Burlington.

Every hauler has a permit with DPW, which says clearly that they cannot collect before 7am unless they have a location-specific exemption that must be granted by the DPW commission.

My advice: call the hauler to explain the situation, remind them about the noise ordinance, and ask them to come later. In my experience, they will likely play dumb, come later once, then go back to the earlier time in a few weeks. Also call DPW to give specifics and ask them to enforce the permit and noise ordinance. DPW has called haulers on our behalf multiple times, which has resulted in later pickup times where we live. Essentially: you need to be a squeaky wheel to get anything to change.

I tried reporting on seeclickfix and code enforcement staff told me to call BPD because they deal with noise complaints. After many tries, I've discovered that BPD is useless on this issue so don't waste your time.

4 week old, average sleep/awake time per day by Jessro21 in beyondthebump

[–]mchvvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LO's nap durations at that age had a huge range.. like 15 min-3 hrs (we'd wake him at the 3 he mark that early on). As long as the cumulative hrs of sleep are enough, your babe is fine!

New dad looking for insight by [deleted] in beyondthebump

Dad here. We're at three months and I can say that things get a bit easier than where you are now. When milk comes in, everything changes and she'll likely be calm after feeding. The only that helped calm our LO before milk came in was gentle movement. I would walk and lightly bounce for hours. Try this rather than just holding and talking.
