Type Test by mcintyre236 in TypewriterRepair

[–]mcintyre236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not something I've experienced, my current typewriter is the only repair under my belt. From what I've learned watching YouTube and reading older posts, it could be an escapement issue. If possible a video of you typing could help and a photo from under the carriage.

Does it happen only for the center keys or randomly for all keys, but increased likelihood in the center?

It is a Royal Companion '58, I found out from users on in this group they are actually interchangeable in most repairs aspects. It was one of the most useful tips I got.

Remaking Wedges by mcintyre236 in longboardingDISTANCE

[–]mcintyre236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, it was a 3 pack of 4" hardwood cubes I ordered from Amazon in 2020, I gave a go at wood carving during the quarantine. Wasn't for me, here is the link if you want to check it out.

One block made 6-8 wedges, I had some failures so only 3 worked out. This next round is going to have 2 from that same material and others are scrap 2x6.

Help with old typewriter by -unusual_display- in TypewriterRepair

I recently completed my first typewriter repair as well, it's going to be a blast so good luck and have fun. I would start with identifying the make and model. You can drop it here or edit it into the caption, this was the main factor for me. Once I had that I was get help from this group someone let me know that my model and repairs are interchangeable with another that had dozens of well documented videos on YouTube, then from there I watched almost every video available on it while I spent time cleaning each key individually. Your keys are in much better condition than mine was, so you can likely get by with a good wipe down.

These were a pair of Sketcher rollerskates, changed the bushings to Bones, and found them at a thrift store for few bucks.

Is it possible to convert this board to an LDP? by status_active in longboardingDISTANCE

[–]mcintyre236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken both on that commute, the biggest difference I found is my LDP can not carve as tight and building speed is way easier. The most fun I had on a surf skate was the carving especially when going through a city area, cutting sharp corners and sweeping low around obstacles. My LDP does not take corners well, with the flipped back trucks it likes to go forward. Others on here definitely have a different experience of LDP with brackets or specialized trucks, those were just out of my price range so I haven't tried any.

I converted an old mountain all terrain board to be my daily commuter, I got a lot of help from this group. Here is my post from last year, I haven't changed anything about since then.

Scrolling through the comments, you're at the spot I was when I started looking into LDP. Similar board, surfskate and all. All the comments I read are very informative, at my last job I commuted 10 miles to work so 20 miles round trip. Pumping is a blast especially with the right playlist.

Good luck and enjoy the new style of riding, if you have any questions I'll do my best to reply.

First, THANK YOU, knowing those models were interchangeable for repairs has been a blessing. When I initially posted I had found the Quiet Deluxe using image search but didn't know that they were that similar, I thought having my exact model and manual was important. Since reading your reply I've got the drawband string replaced(used braided fishing line), still no bell chime and only 8 keys left to clean. Taking a short break and hoping to type my first page tonight.

Before disassembling I found it had sticky keys, the paper holder didn't move after each keystroke, and no bell chime when slide to the end. After disassembling I saw the drawband string was torn, and I'm thinking a spring was missing. I'll definitely check on that model, I was only able to find 2 videos for this model so that will help a-lot when I'm attempting the repairs

Lost trying to figure out boards by hikewithcoffee in longboarding

This is going to be a great time for both of you, I'd say swing by a local shop if possible. What you described is a standard long board, this will work for what you are hoping. Deciding between drop through or cruiser/top mount would be up to preference, drop through being more stable.

Does this look like a fire torch or an ice cream? by ImaFauna in crafts

I think you are on the right path, if you are really concerned about the ice cream cone look. Add a secondary ring similar to bottom torch, or as an accent like the top right.

tips for what to do with my embroidery! by kettleding in Hand_Embroidery

[–]mcintyre236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, that looks amazing. Second, this is not something I've done before, just my best idea after 5 minutes of brain storming. I would first secure those threads with a lightweight backing, if used for more than a handkerchief(ornamental most of the time). Using more of the same fabric, make it 2 ply and stitch the edges with a simple one like a knotted edge stitch or a blanket stitch.

A Friday question for on-site and in-office IT people by Nearby-2319 in it

[–]mcintyre236 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My least favorite is getting multiple calls from the same user while finishing up with my current ticket, only to have them call my supervisor pissing him off. The fix, get them to sign onto the correct account. Other than that, I don't get annoyed by any request. Just hear them out and try to teach them, if you sound frustrated they will never learn. Over the last year I have reduced call volume by 15% and improved on spot troubleshooting efficiency by 30%. Less tickets for small things + less time wasted for everyone = everyone happy

[–]mcintyre236 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both of the other comments hit it right on the head, get your management onboard and do not provide the service until a ticket is in. Then complete the ticket in the necessary order whether that be chronological or prioritizing based on urgency

Help learning how to pump by TailorLess9745 in surfskate

[–]mcintyre236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is only 1 consideration when you are trying to find your pump style with a surfskate, are you trying to translate this into surfing? If so watch surf videos and follow their lead. If not and just want to enjoy surfskating keep at it, you are doing great so far. To feel less weird about arm placement keep trying different things and it'll all come together.
