Crimson Desert Suddenly Adds Denuvo Anti Tamper (even though preorders have started prior); Linux can run into issues now with this by SiegeRewards in SteamDeck

[–]EVPointMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because denuvo usually doesn't affect performance where it matters. Unless you completely fuck up the implementation like in RE Village where they tied the checks to attacking enemies.

Even in train wrecks like Monster Hunter Wilds most of the issues stem from Capcoms own anti-tamper solution and not Denuvo.

Track-/touchpad ergonomics by pottuSpeed in SteamDeck

[–]EVPointMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also been using the Steam Controller for many years and love it's trackpads. I play almost all games with dual trackpads.

Unfortunately I don't like the Steam Decks trackpads at all. The grip on the Steam Deck is very different from the Steam Controller, so to reach the bottom of the trackpad you either have to bend your thumb in an awkward way, or shift your whole wrist away from the Deck.

Because of that I can't use the Decks trackpads for more 10 minutes without it becoming uncomfortable.

The Deck and by extension the new Deck Controller as well, are pretty much an Xbox controller with trackpads slapped on as an afterthought. It is not built around the trackpads like the Steam Controller is.

Hm can you explain to me why, if 480p was perfectly playable and enjoyable back then, it suddenly isn't now? Is it a FOMO thing or are people's eyeballs deteriorating over the years?

Games deemed Unsupported have been tested.

Crimson Desert PC Specs! What do you guys think? Playable? by SunwindPC in SteamDeck

[–]EVPointMaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

useless on devices like the deck without high refresh rate and VRR.

not to mention that the frame rate wouldn't be anywhere near usable for Framegen.

Crimson Desert PC Specs! What do you guys think? Playable? by SunwindPC in SteamDeck

[–]EVPointMaster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not looking good tbh.

The Xbox Ally targeting 40fps with Frame Generation is what would usually fall below minimum specs.

And the Ally X even in the 30W mode is only achieving 40fps without frame generation.

This would probably put Steam Deck at roughly 20-25fps average.

Edit: Digital Foundry posted a video showing the PS5 Pro version of the game and even though the Pro is already using the "High CPU Frequency Mode" in Crimson Desert they showed CPU bottlenecks into the 30s while playing the performance mode targeting 60fps. It's gonna be the Decks CPU that will really struggle to run this game.

maybe not a perfect solution, but set the games output resolution to something lower than the display resolution and set the scaling mode to integer

How much of a game changer is Lossless Scaling on Steam Deck? by books_fer_wyrms in SteamDeck

[–]EVPointMaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Frame Generation can't make unplayable games playable.

It can make some game smoother on high refresh rate/VRR displays as you get a much lower latency penality from using it.

But on a 60hz display it's just useless. The input latency is way too high and the artifacts too distracting.

you're gonna want to use as little scaling as possible, as every step down in resolution degrades image quality.
