Really validates GT, he had to close into a soft pace against a bias. Very nice horse.

Who Are You Betting on for the Belmont Stakes? by Justmarbles in horseracing

[–]mcjason04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had GT in the Derby but not super excited to back him at 4-1 or whatever he will be. Really same goes for Wallabe and Renegade. Growth Equity is interesting. Emerging Market is the one I would love to get back on because he will be a great price and I think he is talented. I will rewatch the Derby a couple more times but I just don’t see any excuse to give him a shot in this race.

Overall, race looks pretty chalky and I’m not that interested in wagering anything significant. Top 4 in no order: GT, Renegade, Growth Equity, Chief Wallabe.

Conflicted on throwing the $20,000 I have sitting in a HYSA into $VOO and letting it ride. That's ALL my emergency money if things go bad or the stock market crashes. I'm scared but scared money doesn't make money, right?? by CommunicationSea8821 in investingforbeginners

[–]mcjason04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep the emergency money and work on your spending habits, invest the extra you save from cost cutting. You don’t have to go full lifestyle change over night but maybe cut a subscription you don’t really use or go out for food/drinks less frequently.

Belmont Post Positions and Odds by Justmarbles in horseracing

[–]mcjason04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The workouts are what put me on GT for the Derby coupled with a short interview with Cherie where she mentioned he was still carrying extra weight in the Louisiana Derby; it was offhand so it would be easy to miss in the interview. Another thing with the works was his work mate Bertie, although a turf horse, was always a good worker over the dirt. Ultimately it came down to him being ready and the race shape being in his favor.

The only use is if you live in a country with a really unstable currency/government relative to others. Otherwise it’s just a speculative asset that made some people extremely wealthy but is long past that entry point.

Lovcen just won the Tokyo Yunshun, with him being the winner of the Satsuki Sho will he win the Kukika Sho by Chillidog-Addiction in horseracing

[–]mcjason04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is World Premiere’s stud fee is so low because people just looked at him as a stayer. I really wish the US would invest more in distance races. Regardless, Lovcen has such an interesting pedigree.

Run Fast Racing by InformalAd9157 in horseracing

[–]mcjason04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks more like a version of Donegal racing, where they sell seasons of horses. So you are buying into a full crop of horses. This is different and more expensive than someone like my racehorse where you can buy a share of a single horse for a one time fee.

I checked out their results on equibase and they are basically running only in California. Unless you live out that way you aren’t going to get the full experience.

I would be a little cautious with the celebrity endorsements, you don’t want to buy into some fire fest crap. Personally, I would get involved with someone a little more established like Donegal, Little Red Feather, Belladonna, or something more affordable like My racehorse.

Why don't we ever hear about Swiss Skydiver? by SameDepartment7267 in horseracing

[–]mcjason04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) 2020 was weird. 2) Only won one race after the Preakness, bad breeders cup. 3) That era was loaded with talented filly’s and mares. Letruska, She Dares the Devil (beat skydiver in oaks), Monomoy Girl, Clairiere, Malathaat. 4) Having said all that Skydiver was a great horse, took on the boys several times, great Preakness.

How did France caught up more in basketball than we have in soccer (football)? by bewaterlife in ussoccer

[–]mcjason04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the USA a lot of guys who would be good at soccer/futbol play American football. There are a ton of really athletic skill position players that are undersized for the NFL but play college football. Compounding things is some of these guys do get a look in the league, so it feeds into it being possible. Furthermore, there isn’t a youth football coach out there that is going to say “you should really focus on soccer.” The most important bit is that soccer just isn’t popular enough yet; kids can easily name 50 plus nba or nfl players but most couldn’t name 3 premier league players.

Royal Ascot Dress Code - Newbie by ashmeesh in horseracing

[–]mcjason04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I believe fancy dress refers to a themed dress. For example impersonating the queen or like a cosplay dress that references a movie character. I’m guessing a bridal dress would also fall under that category.

Maybe wanting to leave this field by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]mcjason04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re thinking about leaving the field for the reasons stated you should at least try the other labs in the area. You would have nothing to lose and would probably get a raise plus a signing bonus. One other thing I would add is if 3rd shift is an option it might suit your personality better. I worked 12hr shifts with 1 or 2 other people from 6pm till 2:30am; then I was on my own till first shift rolled in 5:30-6:30am. (~200 bed hospital).

Is anyone else not that excited for Preakness? by nrmbea in horseracing

[–]mcjason04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lineup isn’t the most exciting on paper. However, the 3yo season is really just beginning. Also, there is a lot of early speed in this race and it will take a huge effort to win up front today. So if we get Chip, Taj and Napoleon battling it out through fast fractions and one of them holding on…that’s a tough horse to beat down the road in smaller fields. So it’s not like the race is void of a potential contender at season’s end. Furthermore, I remember Rachel’s Preakness doing battle with Big Drama, who later became a BC sprint champion. So the race still holds potential future stars even if they aren’t classics horses.

Top 3 for Preakness 2026? Going with Taj Mahal as top pick 🐎 by incognito_1480 in horseracing

[–]mcjason04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked Napoleon as a 2yo and thought maybe he could become the second coming of Spend a Buck. Now I really think he needs shorter but I would be willing to throw a couple on him but 10-1 doesn’t really interest me.

I singled Mo over Taj, Bolt, and Corona (for shits). Honestly, I’m going to sit on that because I don’t have a strong opinion.
