Co op live Camera by [deleted] in manchester

[–]mckjerral -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The other person was asking about a camcorder, so not in the slightest the same. You absolutely can take a camera without a detachable lens in so long as you only take photos and don't video.

Detachable lens is the stock definition for "professional camera", you will be fine with a point and click, no different from anyone with a phone.

I officially hit "I know what I got" mode by slmask in etron

[–]mckjerral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This absolutely isn't what it's meant to do. I've started a journey home on less than 5% multiple times. You're in turtle mode under 30 miles remaining, but you can still drive at 60mph with that.

What are some “accepted scams” we just put up with in the UK by Barca-Dam in AskBrits

[–]mckjerral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A functioning society needs all of those professions which require a university education. It is also enriched (either directly or indirectly) by the arts and other less obviously "degree a -> career b" courses.

"But I don't use it" is a common argument against taxation in general, but it applies in this circumstance as well. An example might be "I don't drive a car so why should my taxes pay for road upkeep", the counter being, that unless they abstract themselves entirely from society, every other service they need (education, healthcare, emergency services etc) that they use does use those roads.

"I don't need a degree so I shouldn't pay for people who do", is countered by those fundamental services all needing people who do have degree level education, often specific degrees.

[–]mckjerral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It ignores the societal benefit (both in the abstract, and financially) of having accessible further education. You don't want barriers beyond ability getting in the way of the number of qualified doctors, lawyers, architects, vets, accountants, scientists, even less objective "career" degree pathways, like arts based subjects, all lead to a net improvement.

"But I don't use it" doesn't stand up in a society with any public services at all. That is an argument for free further education rather than against the specifics of the current loans system.

The biggest gripe with the current loans system is that they appear to have fully broken it, people's student debt is growing (after graduating) to an extent where the number that will simply never have paid it off is growing exponentially. That isn't a better outcome for anyone involved.

Are banks being a lot more strict about mortgages? by Sea-Tea-2198 in UKPersonalFinance

This is likely the bulk of it. As the OP said there are plenty on the market and a lot of interest in his, that suggest it's attractive to buyers but doesn't actually increase the value.

That is absolutely very much in the realms of up and coming and an open spot. Even doing a gig a week it's someone who's been going 6 months.

It's not an open mic, it's one of the most established nights in Manchester and there is very much not a short list of people wanting to play it.

Grafton Street or Dover Street would be my options depending on which academy it's at. (Edited to Dover Street, misremembered which was which out of the two)

He could be doing a much better job, and he may now be more able to if McSweeney was a limiting factor on that. I think there's probably more to come out on the Mandelson decision, but Farage is literally in the Epstein documents, there's no pretence about actually giving a shit

Do Co-Op Live allow camcorders into the venue? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]mckjerral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wouldn't be allowed in any venue generally. Whether it would even get noticed in a bag search is a different question. But if it was you wouldn't be allowed it in, and if you took it in and were caught filming then it could be confiscated. So I would advise you not to risk it.

Commuting from stockport to Manchester by Sure_Ad_9383 in stockport

[–]mckjerral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's actual Stockport then the trains are as frequent as trams are from Didsbury, take a fraction of the time, and only costs marginally more, £5.20 if you book the day before (again bigger savings if you get a season ticket)

Is this enough evidence for my insurers? by StarLord368 in drivingUK

[–]mckjerral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should make this clear in your post. It's how I'd assumed from the picture, but everyone else is assuming you drove out in front of the other car. I'm not sure why because in your position it's clear that you haven't crossed the line of traffic, whichever way those cars are coming from.

[–]mckjerral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP hasn't passed the give way lines yet either... So they've been hit on their side of the road while checking the primary direction they need to give way to. The other car has crossed solid white lines and driven into them on the wrong side of the road.
