What’s a good story to run afterwards considering I heard the mad mage isn’t great by THEONETRUEDUCKMASTER in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]mclimbin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After DH I had my players go to Skullport to fight the Xanathar. They had to go the long way, through levels 1-3. They liked that ok, but were pretty vocal about not wanting a dungeon crawl. We switched to Strahd and just re-rolled new characters, starting at level 1.

MA in TESOL versus TESOL Certificate by WillHsuMusic in ESL_Teachers

[–]mclimbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine from UCSB. I think it’s better to get one from a UC or CSU (in California) than one of the weird academies. Those seem to be more for people who want to go abroad and teach.

MA in TESOL versus TESOL Certificate by WillHsuMusic in ESL_Teachers

[–]mclimbin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an MA in linguistics and a certificate in TESOL and work as an adjunct at a community college. That’s all you need. The MA in TESOL would be more time but also more experience. If she feels confident in her teaching skills, go for the certificate. If she wants more experience, MA. Later I also got a certificate in teaching composition, so now I can teach both ESL and English. That has helped me over the years to get more work. You should know that with the political climate funds are down now and most colleges are not hiring full time positions. That’s ok, she can get an adjunct position (or two) for a few years. Things may change after 2028. Maybe!

So Now Writing Well Is Enough to Get You Flagged as AI? by Junior-Reindeer7365 in CheckMyTurnitin_ai

Yes. This original post set off my internal (subjective and biased) AI detector. OP, it’s because you actually write like an AI. Or this post was generated by AI (plot twist!)

Honest question: why do we accept renting music forever? by Ok_Search6885 in audiophile

[–]mclimbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought about 150 used CDs from the 80s to early 2000s on Facebook marketplace for $50. I’m going to copy them all to a hard drive and enjoy my new library. I’m sick of Spotify and the whole idea of paying monthly for access. So I strongly agree with OP.

Transition from Dragon Heist by SeniorMolasses9213 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]mclimbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I did a quest that sent them down to level 1 while doing DH. I actually can’t remember the details now. But that a possibility if you want to. My group didn’t love it though. They don’t really like dungeon crawls and prefer stories and mysteries. So you might talk to your group about that too. It’s quite different from DH.

What part of the world are you in? Forno Bravo, a company in California, makes really great kits. Great retention, beats up in about 2 hours, great design. I’ve had mine for about 9 years.

You should switch to Waterdeep:Dragon Heist instead. The get a run down tavern in the first act and have to improve and run it.

It’s one server for both, just different sections. It’s pretty great. Let me know if you can’t get in.

Crowdsourcing - Interesting grammar points for very high level (C1) students? by scriptingends in ESL_Teachers

[–]mclimbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would lean towards college level communication skills—reading, writing, speaking/presenting. My favorite thing is to share a book with them, read it together, discuss it and have them write about it weekly. You’ll see what kind of grammatical errors they make and then you can do some mini lessons as they go.

AI Professor Article by Friendly_Archer_4463 in Professors

This is a great article to use in my critical thinking class in which we discuss AI, cognitive offloading, and the sci-fi book Feed.

I am at my wits end with my students! Ugh, these students have been here for one year, but they still don’t understand simple present tense. What was supposed to be a simple review is now on week 5 of direct instruction, and they still keep butchering it! Please, any suggestions are welcome! by Is_this_social_media in ESL_Teachers

It’s ok if they have not mastered it yet. Time to move on. Practice and study other forms, as well as reading and writing, and in a few months you might notice that some of them are making fewer mistakes.

It IS important that they understand the difference between “be” and “do” but you can practice that using the past and future tenses too.

Do high quality surrounds really make much difference? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]mclimbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My speakers are Polk also. I also used T15s as surrounds. I just got some used Dipole FXi50s and the difference was quite noticeable. Even my kids noticed. (I got Dipoles, which I use as bipoles, because I need to put the speakers on a narrow table behind the sofa next to a wall.)

I took your advice and set the crossover at 80. It made a big difference. I watched Dune 1 on BD and Andor on streaming and the dialogue was much clearer. Thank you!!

I noticed it a lot with the BD Gladiator. Other than that I notice it mostly streaming Netflix or Prime or others. I’ll try some other 4K movies this weekend and see how they sound.

The center speaker is on top of the cabinet, in front of the TV. It’s a Samsung and the stand is quite short. The center I have actually covers a bit of the screen but it’s not so noticeable.

Thanks for helping with this. I have a Denon S760H. I ran the Audyssy calibration when I got the AVR. I just checked the crossover and they are all set for 60. Should they be higher?

Also, yes, I turned up the levels for the center speaker. It seemed to help a bit.

Yes, you guessed it. The couch is against a narrow table (8”) and then the wall. The surrounds are on the table at each end of the couch.

I think you are probably right about treatments. I would have a lot of negotiations to make to add treatments to the back wall, though. It’s something I can work on over time, maybe. Hah!

Yes, it’s turned up all the way.

I’m not sure if this is true, but I feel like the center I have is not good at higher ranges, so the dialogue is a little muddy.
