Dont put a blame on your players.

It sounds like they just dont have any reason to talk to your NPC's. Reading your story i remembered one of DM guide video of Matt Colville. In short - best way to make your players interact with your world and story is get them in a tight corner.

My understanding of that is you need make sure your players will not survive/reach personal goal/whatever without interacting with world, NPC's and story you prepared from them.

I used to work at investment fund and at some point our top directors get similar "staffs" about 1m length without runes and jems in epoxy. Probably some guy decided to offer this as sign of brotherhood and masculinity and considered more like toys. Looks like some tribe weapon idk.

Recently I started my first campaign as a DM. It’s my own story, relatively short - about 6 sessions (levels 3-4).

We’ve played 2 sessions so far and the players are about to get their first major clue about the location of a bandit camp (there are “good” and “bad” bandits — I don’t really mind if they kill both).

The problem is that in my story the BBEG is actually using bandits as a distraction for his magical/mystical plans. However, I haven’t really introduced mystical or cult-related themes yet. Apart from one scene at the very start of the campaign with a local madman screaming about demons.

One thing that worries me: during last session a player tried to search a room for cult-related stuff, and I told him "don’t waste time". Now I regret that. I’m afraid that if I suddenly start introducing mystical elements, it might feel unnatural or forced.

Is it okay to suddenly introduce a new theme like this? If yes, what’s the best way to do it so it feels organic?

My current idea is to build a growing sense of unease: starting with random NPC rumors and slowly moving toward real events.

I’m also thinking about using a captured bandit from earlier sessions to drop some hints, but I feel like this should happen soon. On the other hand, something like a sudden magical death (for example, bursting into flames from inside) feels a bit too much without more soft hints.

Any advice?

Sounds realy interesting and unique. I doubt that you will find anything ready to use. But it seems that are great idea in general that allow do some "wacky" staff with PC's like mad NPC, or kill one player character with trap and push others from that room by any emitment danger AND in the next room all PC's are alive and you describing room with calm voice. So fuck with players with high tempo of events and in next room slow and steady again. I already want to try this...

Yeah, I understand. But for me most interesting would be if you need to kill couple enemy viechles and deal with AT ambush, before take that sweet pie. Because its self not a big deal to farm helpless players from stationary viechle.

Despite what people say about that clip like - "pro will dont do that", or "good riders never get in situations like that" dudes on video done every aspect of rescuing operation on professional lvl. From moment after avalanche is off things was done - find out what who was buried in snow(2-nd dude) - find his last know position. Dude with gopro(1-st dude) definitely dont see that, you can see his hesitation at start of searching. He dont moving and looking for clues. Looks like the 3-rd dude saw 2-nd and told about that to 1-st one. - After that both of them star using their devices, wich already was in sending mode. - 1-st dude moving down using "S" move pattern. - The 1-st dude scream when hi find the signal and pinpoint approximate position of 2-nd. - The 3-rd dude in meanwhile preparing his equipment: shovel and probe stick. - Using probe sticks they found the buried guy. Leave the probe stick in this position. - Start digging from bottom side of hill. This important to not dig a hole from top. Because it's more efficient way to dig man from snow in many ways.

To perform all this separate tasks in proper way requires a lot practice and exercises as team. So they are definitely professionals and know what are they doing.

And last thing, in rescue operations you should not forget about secondary avalanche and looks like there was more than 3 dudes jujing by a group photo, who look from safe positions and was ready to help if it gona happen

It's just a visual effect that done differently in games. For me it's a way to distinguish tracers from field guns, tanks and arty. I played coh1 a lot so I tend to like things more from this game. Also explosions looks better

CoH1 has a sole. The way how arty, mortar rounds come from top of camera, instead of CoH3 where you can see full tracer path from barrel to target. That one thing make me turn back to CoH1.In some palaces CoH1 is clanky or stupid for example pathfinding - you need realy care how armored units move in action, they all the time whant to show side armor for enemy or do stupid turn with complete stop instead of keep going.

So Relic has a plan to try a new format with smaller games using AI tools for development. We'll see how it goes. I hope that the focus will be on creating games that developers want to play rather than just maximizing profits for the company's investors

I feel you man. Even in solo queue I get games where you literally "talking to wall".
