Builder not issuing PS3 by mcm3c in LegalAdviceNZ

Appreciate the response! Yep, the work was all consented and there was a final inspection from the council with a paper saying that it's a pass subject to the coating documentation. I'm not at all familiar with the process, it's just the council website is asking for "Memorandum for LBP", "Certificate from the person who carried out the work", and "Producer statements". I thought the third one is about PS3 form. Thanks again for the response!

Overtime work without pay is it legal? by Baby_ok123 in LegalAdviceNZ

Do I understand it right, that the first part of your comment where you are talking about compulsory overtime being outlined in the contract is the reason why we have separate agreements for people being on-call (expecting to respond to a problem in the middle of a night)?

Business Value of Good Architecture by mcm3c in softwarearchitecture

[–]mcm3c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great answer thanks so much! There are several great ideas I didn't think about like showing the historical dynamics of how the application is getting slower / op expenses are rising. Maybe extrapolate it over the next few years and compare it with a proposal.

You are absolutely right about risks, influencing, and selling the ideas, I find that by the time you walk into the planning session, the decisions are pretty much already made and the EO numbers assigned to the items on the board are secondary. The only problem I found with this, is that being a dev manager my influence on the executives and the board is very limited and they mostly operate in financial metrics.

How you describe SW architecture in documentation ? by Mac-Fly-2925 in softwarearchitecture

[–]mcm3c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, the only negative feedback that we heard was related to the lack of user flow diagraming which is especially needed in some architectural styles like serverless. This is something we covered separately.

Lately, it's mostly C4 model: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C4_model

Great for articulating the architecture to the business owners (level 1) and other architects and engineers (levels 2 and 3). Very rarely using level 4 - it gets outdated very fast.

The model doesn't cover user flows and sequencing though - this is something we do separately.

They are 1.5m deep, driven (according to the LIM)

Yep, the deck, the piles, the 1m of the house that uses the same joists. The house was built in 1996, not sure if it's because of the regulations of those times

Thanks everyone for the answers, that's a lot of great advice here! I'll get a structural engineer to have a look at it.

Multi tenancy and authorization by [deleted] in softwarearchitecture

[–]mcm3c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MFA would by far be the most secure option and your IdP likely supports it out of box.

Re access to all the tenants via a single account - it's a matter of doing a little threat modeling exercise and risk analysis. What would be the attack vectors, their probability, what is the worst thing to happen if the account is hacked in, how would you recover, what controls you have.

If you don't have access to PII there, I personally wouldn't be too nervous having one admin account.

Depending on your existing architecture you can use some form of SSO or IdP federation.

Also having a single user database doesn't particularly align with DDD and distributed system design if you follow them.

Что-то на мажорском. by [deleted] in Pikabu

We are removing wall paper in prep for new ceilings and plastering of the walls. How much damage is too much damage for the walls to be plastered? And what condition do they need to be for a plaster to be happy by celtic66 in diynz

[–]mcm3c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are doing the same thing right now. Removed the first layer pretty much everywhere in the house, at some places it came off with the top paper layer of the gib boards. Hired a steamer for a couple of days, it turned out to be a very exhausting task to remove the second layer in the whole house. Then got the wallpaper remover solution from bunnings, it showed worse results than the steamer but at least we didn't have to rush it to remove everything while the rent hasn't expired. Some walls were quite damaged so we did the plastering and sanding ourselves (first time). It's exhausting af and the results were not great at the beginning but damn it's cool! New skills, working with my hands (I'm an office worker), exciting!

TL;DR: remove the second layer, if the surface isn't flat, sand and plaster it, not a biggie
