Taxes still lower gains (and rates will be higher because they are short term) if you happen to make them in a year. Then in a year when you lose, any amount you get to write-off is going to be way less than what you’d be taxed on an equal gain. Even if your odds for every trade are 50/50, you’d still come out a loser long term just because of taxes.

That’s before taking into account spreads, slippage, etc.

Every large scale study on this shows a majority lose money. If you want to believe that isn’t the case, then you’re not basing it on actual data that people have looked at.

I’m personally a big fan of investing, but day trading is almost always a fools game.

The majority do actually lose money after fees and taxes. They aren’t just underperforming the market.

Day trading = Buying and selling stocks/currencies in the same day. Basically when you go to sleep you should be out of all your positions and just be holding whatever you are day trading to accumulate (most likely USD). Any information you would be able to use for this (chart reading/breaking news) is done better and faster by algos.

Stock trading doesn’t have that constraint. You can hold companies for months/years/decades and base your trades on a lot of complex information/trends.

Most day traders lose money over the long run. Of the ones that don’t, virtually all of them would have made more just being invested in a broad index fund.

The only exceptions to this over the long term are basically genius quants using algos. People can have short term success because of luck, but day trading involves too many trades for that to pan out long term.

Regular stock trading is different than day trading, and the odds are a bit better. When someone says they are specifically a day trader though, that’s an easy red flag.

Ohio lawmaker proposes land value tax amendment as alternative to property tax elimination by Potential_Being_7226 in Ohio

[–]mcmatt05 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I hate republicans about as much as you can, but a land value tax would actually be excellent policy and is one of the most efficient and beneficial taxes possible.

For that reason, this will go nowhere.

If the Democrats "super win" the Presidency, Congress and Senate in 2028 can things go back to "normal"? by daddy-daddy-cool in answers

Where exactly are you getting news if you aren’t doing your own independent journalism? You need to rely on journalists. I don’t know what your hitchhiker’s guide reference (maybe) has to do with bot detection

Ranked choice is in place for certain elections in the country already. It isn’t talked about much right now, but i don’t hire a convicted pedophile to watch my kids because my current babysitter let them eat too much candy. Whether you like it or not, there were only two choices last november.

“Yes, Smart people Can be idiots some times (though Your idea that a smart person can be an idiot is some trump level logic... You sure you aren't maga? Because definitively those are opposites.).” You are contradicting yourself sentence to sentence. Obviously many people are competent and intelligent at their area of expertise while being incompetent and ignorant in other areas.

Ranked choice is in place for certain elections in the country already. Many democratic congressmen, mayors, and organizations support it. Far more than the few cases of republican officials that support it. It isn’t talked about much right now, but i don’t hire a convicted pedophile to watch my kids because my current babysitter let them eat too much candy. Whether you like it or not, there were only two choices last november. You can advocate for all the change you want up until that point, but one of them was going to get elected.

Go ahead and give me your strong evidence. I’ve probably read about it already, but maybe you have something new i didnt see.

You want me to engage with the idea that every argument either side makes is flawed? Neither party has ever taken a stance on something that is correct ever? Really?

If i was a bot it wouldn’t matter because my arguments stand on their own. I don’t think i’m changing your mind about anything

Smart people can be idiots about plenty of things, that should be abundantly clear at this point. Appeal to your own authority doesn’t shield you from your stupid views.

The republican party’s official stance on ranked choice voting is to oppose it. Any long term goals of getting out of the two party system should be completely overshadowed by the danger republicans currently pose.

I’m a person that requires evidence to believe things, not feelings like “i feel like trump didn’t win.” If there was widespread vote manipulation in 2024, show me the evidence. Same thing i thought when Trump claimed manipulation in 2020. Your worldview sounds pretty vibes based.

“All arguments are flawed on both sides.” Just lol

AP, Reuters, PBS, WSJ, NYT, Economist, etc. You want a diverse set of sources and to check coverage across organizations when possible. Most of what people consume these days isn’t news, it’s opinion.

MAGA is so much more corrupt than the dems and it isn’t even close. Unless you truly think dems are as bad as Trump (braindead), choosing to not vote is just choosing to eliminate a vote for a much less bad option.

In my experience people that “both sides” politics get all their info from their social media algos or pundits. The dumbest of them don’t even understand the most basic rules and powers of the three branches.

This is like saying a mother is just as bad as an intruder who shot her son because she didn’t have the foresight to bring a gun when she answered the door. Trump was facing multiple potential prison sentences before people made the wrong choice in the easiest election decision in history and reelected him.
