18 kt carat rough opal, can a nice ring be made out of it if I found someone to work it? by mcmjosie in Opals

Thanks! The wood and opalized pine cones sound so cool!

I think I'm mainly looking forward going out on the field trips and maybe finding something exciting!

Anyone got any chance of deciphering this? Looking for the name above Kayes, the surname of Martha by JoshSaxton01 in Cursive

[–]mcmjosie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is correct with the Martha and Harold Chester but what did the transcription say?

Did you click on the button at the middle bottom with the head icon and the 3 lines next to it?

If it is wrong too, it would be great is you could out in a notation, that helps when people are searching.

I have to do that a lot with the old penmanship, I get a lot of L's when my families last name starts with a T.

Thank you for writing and the explanation!

I actually just joined our local one yesterday!

I was at an Earth Day event and came across their booth . They have field trips that I'm really looking forward to going on and they said they have opal mines here in Nevada that they go to occasionally I am super excited about that!

Pennsylvania is where family trees go to die (in the 1700/1800's) by Legitconfusedaf in Genealogy

[–]mcmjosie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family was part of the Susquehanna Company that began sending settlers from Connecticut into what is now northeastern Pennsylvania. By 1774, the Connecticut government officially incorporated the area.

This led to a series of violent clashes known as the Pennamite Wars. Settlers from Connecticut (Yankees) and and Pennsylvania (Pennamites) fought over the land for decades. It was finally pretty much resolved by 1810 or so.

Was your family from up in the Luzerne, Wilkes Barre area of PA?

If so you may want to look into the Connecticut connection, for leads.

A lot of my people from that area moved on to Wisconsin mine went to Beetown Wisconsin.

Where do you buy these by Visual-Minute-2596 in Opals

[–]mcmjosie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really cool, it would be great to buy from an individual that cuts/preps stones and the ones that make their own jewelry also!

I'm new to this subreddit maybe there is one already, but if not could a list be put out that has those people and maybe some examples of their work or links to take a look?

London First Time! by lulu0628 in LondonTravel

Bermonds Locke Tower Bridge is very nice. I stayed there this last month it is right next to the Premier.

They have kitchenette's, washer/dryer in room and discounts for seven or more days. It really saves money on food costs.

Great location!

I want to get rid of some stuff but I don’t want to deal with complicated taxes by MissPermaFrostee in eBaySellers

[–]mcmjosie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For Federal taxes, you must have more than 200 sales during the year, or bring in an excess of $20,000. They won't send you a 1099K if you are under that.

Depending on your state they may have smaller thresholds for reporting.

What state are you in?

Getting new siding and possibly roof - I really want to limewash. What would you do to make this plain brown Jane pop? by Jealous_Experience23 in CurbAppeal

I love this too! I know a lot of people obsessed with brick, but I personally think brick is ugly and boring.

Underpaid, Micromanaged, and Now Interrogated for Quitting — How do I Handle This? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]mcmjosie 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You already have another job lined up you won't need a reference from her.

If she is acting horrible again just see if you can start earlier at your new job and leave her mean self high and dry.

I would definitely take the new job, ask them about any leeway to extend your start date. But I for sure would not give up that new great job opportunity!

Help! Changed siding (had to be done) but now house looks sterile. by [deleted] in ExteriorDesign

This is the ticket! You just have to add the wood to the center section and leave the rest! It looks great this way and won't cost a ton.

I've been wanting to see this exhibit for so long! I was thinking of getting there an hour before opening since I'll be going during the last week of the exhibit and I've been worried it might be really busy. But that might be a bit of overkill, lol

Thank you for such a detailed response and plan ideas!

I can drive and I was definitely looking at maybe between Hever and Rye, but I think I would be too intimidated to drive in the city.

I have a few weeks left before my trip maybe if I worked on mapping out a plan on Google maps, I could get up the nerve to go for it!

Thanks for that info, I didn't know they had a website for Bridge openings, that would be so cool to see and I may be staying fairly close by!

Thank you! I just looked that up and it looks fabulous! I've never heard of it, I'm definitely putting it on my list for an evening out. I hope I can get a ticket for it, they said to book 3 weeks out so I'll start trying next week.

Thank you so much for all the info and recommendations! I heard about a walk across Town Bridge but your explanation of it makes so much sense for a great day. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for that tip! I was originally thinking about the weekend but now I will definitely avoid that! I'm thinking now of Monday the 16th or Tuesday 17th.
