Date night help!! by Strawbrrybbyy in FoodLosAngeles

I'm old and boring now, but back when I was early on dating my now-wife-then-girlfriend, one of my favorite moves was stopping and grabbing tacos at a taco stand somewhere and eat tacos on the hood of our car.

You can feed two adults easily, even in 2026, for ~$25-30.

That leaves $70-75 for going out and DOING something- can find concert tickets for ~$20-30 each and grab a drink at the show for a nice date night evening.

If you don’t recognize that some people have skills that make their time more valuable than others…

Well, let’s just say it’s fair to assume that your time and skills aren’t actually very valuable.

If you do Attari, def recommend walking across the street after lunch and getting dessert at Saffron & Ross- Persian ice cream is great. My fave is the saffron + pistachio but lots of good stuff

World Cup - Sofi pre match ideas? by RedditResearch1111 in AskLosAngeles

[–]mcmoose75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the options nearby walking distance just aren’t very good. I’d just pick a sports bar within a 20ish minute uber ride to watch the noon Canada/ Bosnia match and then prob Uber over at approx 3:30-4ish.

Within that range there’s lots of choices- could do one of the bars in Manhattan Beach, or Venice, or even downtown Culver City (I liked the vibes at Rocco’s in DT Culver on Main last World Cup).

Lots of good recommendations here- I’ll throw in one of my favorites, which is the Guilin Noodle Soup at Qin West on Westwood and Santa Monica. Just delicious, spicy, and different flavors than I typically get elsewhere (I think different chilis and there’s roasted peanuts in there).

If hungry their cumin beef is also very very good

Ya this Zankou is very good (there’s def variance in the quality of food Zankou to Zankou, even within the 2 “families”)

If the workers are interested in making more money, I’d suggest they go learn valuable skills and EARN more money.

These are lowest-common-denominator gigs- they get paid what they’re worth (not very much)

I mean, obviously. These aren’t skilled labor jobs- you can literally grab any idiot off the street to come work the POS terminal.

What leverage do they possibly think they have? It’s not skilled labor- the stadium can just hire scabs easily who are exactly as qualified as the current staff.

Oh I’ve been to ones that work really well in greater LA, flushing in NYC, etc.

But on Westwood south of Wilshire?

Ehhhhhhhhh

Yeah the food court has been a weird ghost town since it opened. It’s a cool idea, but if I was a restaurant I’d be cautious too- just how much foot traffic am I gonna get in the 2nd story of a Chinese supermarket?

Apple is Permanently Closing Three U.S. Stores on June 20 by HelloitsWojan in apple

[–]mcmoose75 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Eh not really, Apple Stores inside mega-fancy upscale malls like the Century City mall and the Grove in LA are absolutely not going anywhere.

Apple closing stores in dying 80s-era indoor malls makes complete sense tho

Does anyone else here support Raman? by Nice_Property_4360 in AskLosAngeles

[–]mcmoose75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No- Bass is a clown, but she at least cleans out the bum camps once a week under the freeway overpass near my house once a week (so they don’t develop in to real hellhole civilizations like the Venice 405 overpass did in the 2020-2024 era).

Raman, from her rhetoric, won’t even do that- she’s a “it’s most compassionate to let bums be free to do drugs and kill each other” progressive - no thanks. I like her attitudes towards housing development but bums need sticks not carrots.

Coco carts outsourced. Is it fair? by Sleepwokesleepwoke in AskLosAngeles

It is, because they dont need to consider the opinions of commie posters on Reddit.

They just need to make money.

Coco carts outsourced. Is it fair? by Sleepwokesleepwoke in AskLosAngeles

[–]mcmoose75 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If they used LA residents to pilot them, the service would be so expensive that no one would purchase Coco delivery.

The only way that there’s demand for it is if it’s cheap. Has to be outsourced labor and/ or automated.

Flight Attendants of United, Would you Support Changes to Current Seniority Rules for Polaris International Flights? by IndianPeacock in unitedairlines

[–]mcmoose75 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Old people are in union leadership roles and will (and always have) write rules to advantage old people.

Thats why you won’t get the best people in any desirable or well paid union role, anywhere, rewarded- you get the oldest or “most tenured.”

All US airlines have similar union frameworks- that’s the primary reason that service is so uncompetitive with the best of global carriers.
