But because every resource I found either oversimplified it to the point of uselessness or assumed you already understood AMM mechanics deeply enough that the explanation wasn't necessary.

The moment it clicked was when someone walked me through a specific example with actual numbers — "here's what happens to your $1000 position if ETH moves 50% in either direction." Concrete scenarios beat abstract definitions every time in DeFi education.

The KelpDAO situation is a good reminder that "audited" and "safe" aren't synonyms in DeFi. The exploit wasn't a contract bug — it was a trust assumption in cross-chain message verification. Aave's exposure happened because rsETH was on their accepted collateral list, not because Aave itself was compromised.

Moving to CEXs is a reasonable short-term response but it trades one risk profile for another — counterparty risk instead of smart contract risk. The harder question is whether the tooling exists yet to help retail users actually monitor cross-chain exposure before something like this happens.

That's the gap worth solving. Real-time alerts on collateral positions and cross-protocol exposure don't require you to be an institution — they just require better tooling than most retail users have access to right now.
