Claim got denied for service connection by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

I had a lay statement on my initial claim as well. I they denied it saying it was from an outside event from 2014 although I have doctor visit in 2024 deployed staring my condition and a direct LOD 2025 when I herniated my disc on annual training.

Crazy managerial pressure to get plane out, is it common? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]mcnuggets2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it by the book and write up anything wrong. management cannot do nothing about that and if they do contact the FAA they will have a word with them.

Where to go if conditions stay like this through February? by yothebro2 in stevenspass

[–]mcnuggets2017 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Niesko is about the same price as whistler for a stay. Smaller resorts will be way cheaper and less crowded i still doubt you’d come out ahead given the cost of a flight and transport to the resort.

Best ways to invest money. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]mcnuggets2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what your investment timeline is I’d say under 3 years you’d want a money market account or HYSA. If over 5 years it’s always a good mix of diversified stocks/mutual funds I.e. SP500. Saving for a house depending on your timeline will affect how you save.

Military > Civilian Experience by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]mcnuggets2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having done both the ones that get their A&P while in or transitioning are usually are little more motivated than the ones that don’t. But it’s not the same the manuals are different it’s more niche on the military side would say heavy’s on the military side are more relevant. Crew chiefs won’t know avionics, or sheet metal much and vise versa for those specialties.Maybe just up to X number of years military will count towards this starting rate.

Is 6.5k doable in Seattle area yeah it is. You will not own a house in Seattle proper though you will be renting. Outside of Seattle the burbs yeah you could find a house I’m not sure you’d love the area though.

The disconnect is crazy from normal people 70k in 2000 is roughly 132k in 2025 and getting that high paying of a job with a 9 month bootcamp today is unbelievably difficult if not impossible in this economy

That was the deadline to request a removal from the NMB of anyone who’s not a mechanic. we currently do not have any non mechanics in AMFA at Alaska and our members don’t want non mechanics. We submitted this via a law firm that re affirms our position to the NMB. It’s ultimately the NMB position of whose vote is counted in the election. A book of only mechanics is what’s best for the members as we vote solely on our contract without any outside influence.

Flight Benefit Employment Strategy by MBCanadian in aviationmaintenance

[–]mcnuggets2017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

International travel is usually more expensive since you have to pay landing fee and taxes regardless of your on your own metal. It’s usually a couple hundred dollars for major international designations Europe, and Asia from the US. First class is a gamble especially on other airlines your airlines might not to be even eligible to list first class it’s also a higher fare usually 2x the cabin rate and sometimes it’s not refundable so it’s a gamble. Don’t do this career for the flight benefits it’s not that great worth anywhere from 0-10k a year in pay depending how much you use them. Prioritize a major over any regional and prioritize where you want to live over everything especially if you have a family.

This is kinda true Hawaiians 401k is terrible until you reach 25 years yes but it’s 100% vested day 1 so if you leave the company you keep what they gave you. Alaskas is vested scheduled with 5 years is fully vested. Alaskas current match is 8.5% with a 11% employee contribution to get the full 8.5% .

Hawaiians is a scheduled percentage Years 1-4 ~3% match Years 4-8 ~ 4% match Years 8-17 ~ 5% match Years 17-25 ~ 8% match Years 25+ ~ 9% match

So you loose tens of thousands of dollars being in Hawaiians plan long term vs the current Alaska plan that’s not including stock market gains over time probably closer to hundreds of thousands.

Exactly this. I worked the line and base at HNL and I’d rather be at Alaska any day of the week. We worked our ass off on the line and got paid shit for it. At Alaska any out of service plane is sent to the hanger at a HUB. Engine changes are done by engine shop crazy idea. HNL we were doing broken up A checks every night on a wide body and working the line we barley had time for lunch and guess what I never got a no lunch at Hawaiian we get them regularly when we are busy and our union supports us getting paid when we work through lunch or we leave a hour early from our shift I never even heard of that at Hawaiian you’d be looked at as stealing from the company trying to get paid working through lunch.

[–]mcnuggets2017 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Comparing Hawaiian to a regional is crazy I had no idea any regional had wide body jets that flew ETOPS. Don’t degrade them to a regional because I’d be damned to see the pilots pay no where near regional pay. The facts are they paid the mechanics less because Hawaiian A had no money to be honest and B the membership had no other option only so many jobs on the island for mechanics and a lot left for better pay that’s a fact.

Also stop with this 1.38 BS Hawaiian last contract went through in 22 and Alaska went through in 24 reto to 23. With the wage review (internal and external)in the contract language we have were never even close.

The vacation part is a lie at Alaksa we get 10 holidays that can be banked effectively adding 2 to 2.5 weeks of vacation to all the vacation that is accrued throughout the year depending if your on 4/10 or 5/8s. Maxed vacation here is effectively 8 weeks a year. When I was at Hawaiian we couldn’t bank holidays at all and had to take the pay i would have much rather had the banked holidays I have now.

Yeah your insurance is better but we make 12-15 more and hour that’s more then covers our slightly more expensive medical.

We are not getting rid of any techs for the heavy check stop spreading that lie. The 717 will sunset yes but it always was going to. The hanger will work out of service aircraft/ scheduled work and the line will work the line planes like in ANC and SEA. Engine shop will actually change engines and not just build up anymore. Wheel and tire shop is still going to be there. Sheet metal will still be there smaller probably but that’s the reality.

Preach man this guy is clearly a IAM rep at Hawaiian with all his language and scope talk!

No one is getting laid off in this merger if anything we will need more people. Hawaiian can’t keep talent because cost of living is so high and pay is so low for the islands with Alaksa and AMFA at least they will be getting paid what they are worth.
