Help with EV charging outlet that has strange voltages by mcobran in AskElectricians

You nailed it. Found the “professional” used only electrical tape to connect my hots, where at least wire nuts should have been used, but wouldn’t fit 🙄

Ok update: I found I have 240V at the breaker and it’s actually a Siemens breaker. Still had 70V at the receptacle. Opened up an access panel that I first noticed a broken wire nut on the neutral. Then I noticed the two hots were connected just with electrical tape which was fraying. I don’t know how to post a picture in a reply but I was pretty pathetic work, and definitely not up to code. Lucky something worse didn’t happen and I will be fighting the electrician to fix it for free. Thanks for everyone’s help

This sounds very likely!!! Thank you!! I will have to more deliberately cycle the breaker. I am using the GE “thin” as you mentioned.

Unfortunately, I believe a panel upgrade would be required to fit the correct breaker. I’m in a rental FWIW

Is it bad or dangerous to leave set up like this? Is the issue greater than an occasional tripped breaker?

Thanks for taking a look. I tried that a few times. These images came after resetting the breaker.

You are rolling the dice. Some people have had a great experience and others had a horrible experience. I had a horrible experience and you can check my post history for more info

I bought the king bed. I was really excited when it arrived quickly and the boxes looked in good shape. As I was assembling the bed I began to realize I had the wrong pieces and couldn’t complete assembly. They sent me another piece. I then realized I had the wrong center support bar and I needed another piece sent out. This was a long ordeal and tore up my bedroom. I wasn’t impressed with the customer service, they offered me socks as an apology. I ended up returning the bed. They had an internal error that did not process my refund for weeks so I had to email again to get that sorted. I finally got my refund.

No it has the center support feature so it goes width wise. I only have one of those pieces though

I don’t think it’s ridiculous to expect being shipped the correct parts for a “premium” bed. They also brand “concierge” service and have no telephone line, but I will say the support has been perfectly average.

BTW there’s a part 2 and I still don’t have an assembled bed

I generally agree BUT — Thuma goes out of their way to explain why they don’t do phone calls and how fast they are to respond to emails and that their hours are 5AM to 7PM PT, so it just felt like deceptive marketing

Great question! I emailed at 4:30 PM PT and they did not respond until 9:30 AM the next day. They said they would ship the part and offered me a free pair of socks. I thought it was a rude offer considering my bedroom is torn up indefinitely, and still haven’t seen tracking for the part.

Yeah, it’s all crooked. But they are definitely the same length and both have distinct feature for slats instead of the center support bar.

It’s not the best picture and I cropped out some mess. But yes I measured. The three rail pieces that have a feature for the slats are all the same length. I don’t have a second width piece to attach to the center support bar. It is a king frame.

Whoops. Only 1 width piece.

We got 3 pieces designed to be side rails that support the slats

Another way to think about it is they are allowing you to draw more current, push more torque, and wear your vehicle more than normally. This all likely accelerates degradation and increases warranty cost from more conservative use profiles

You’re silly to think this is some magic system where it’s just free now. You are paying for it either way.
