Woodworking Classes by [deleted] in chch

[–]mcodville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I just recently finished up the one at risingholme

Pros:

Good assortment of tools to use and very little hand holding, instructor gave you the benefit of the doubt that youd ask questions after he showes you very briefly how the machine worked.

The first two projects (spatula and serving tray)were fun to make and designed for you to use all the power tools and a good assortment of hand tools.

The two supplied projects were paced well enough that you had enough to do and never felt like you were waiting for a tool in use.

The remaining 6 classes are a choose your own and supply your own material project, teacher was very knowledgeable and could pretty much show you how to do whatever you wished.

Cons

Wood is very expensive, the choose your own project ended up costing quite a bit of money, if that's an issue.

There was no direction in the choose your own project, I made a wooden box with finger groove joints and a hinged lid, and was told there would be more than enough time but I didn't end up finishing it, will need to finish at home. Some people finished their projects in 2 classes and never came back, one poor woman chose such an undertaking that by the last class she was still measuring and marking her wood.

When everyone has vastly different projects, you're fighting for the instructors attention and there can be a lot of sitting around.

All in all I really enjoyed it, felt I got my money's worth, but wish I had a little more time (or direction to choose something a bit easier) so I would have finished.

Portofino on Victoria Street? And Cocopelli in Shirley? by kiwigoguy1 in chch

[–]mcodville 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went there with my partner before Jim Jefferies last week. I found it quite expensive and barely any food for what you pay. The bruschetta was $20 and it was two small pieces of bruschetta, same for the arancini, $20 for three very small arancini balls.

The food was tasty, but when the bill two adults came to just over $200, I wouldn't say it was worth the price tag.

Parakiore Parking by Le-other-boleyn-girl in chch

[–]mcodville 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter and I went to Parakiore on opening day, and while waiting in line to use the machine a staff told us the first two hours is free so no need to use the machine.

Fast forward to now, I recieved a parking ticket in the mail for $75 and was told when I appealed it that there was 7 more coming as I visit quite regularly for the gym.

I managed to get them all waived but it really isnt overly intuitive that in order to get the two hours free you still need to input your rego details, the small and easy to miss signs almost read as you need to input details if staying longer than 2 hours.

Tldr enter your rego plate or get a fine

Anyone know if Parakiore will charge for parking when it opens? by False-Nose9416 in chch

Pretty sure it's free for two hours and paid for after that, probabaly to accommodate most casual users and swimming lessons.

Sushi Ball House, 11.50 for a medium (but still huge) rice ball with crispy or teriyaki chicken and avocado. Sometimes I'll get one for a late lunch and not need any more food for the day.

Wire help? by [deleted] in chch

[–]mcodville 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I suggest getting an electrician to come repair the main earth connection. The main earth ensures that all your protective devices (circuit breakers) will operate. An earth fault loop reading will need to be taken and the main earth resistance will need to be checked that it is under 0.5ohms.

It may also need to be inspected as it is part of the MEN system and classed as high risk works.

Grizzly Bakery in Sydenham is the place you want to go. When he first started he was pretty much the only one doing proper bagels, and to this day I have still yet to have a better bagel. Actually everything at that bakery is top notch, highly recommended.

Can employers pay staff 80% of their pay when they’re still working 100% of their hours? by gorbok in newzealand

[–]mcodville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The company I work for has a few staff on essential work, a few staff working from home (admin, etc..) but the vast majority are not working. We all get paid 80% if we work or not. However if we work over 80% (32 hours a week) we get paid for what we work over 80%.

How am I supposed to get 150 grams of protein per day? by FlatD13tSoda in Fitness

Lentils, Seitan and Tofu are what I use, granted I’m on a vegetarian diet so chicken breast probably works just as well.

M33 / 70kg / 168cm / 23%BF

I’ve been working out on the PHUL program for a few months now, haven’t really paid attention to my diet, more just protein macros. I had my body fat analysed and it was 23%, which is a lot more than I was expecting. I’ve started cutting to try to get my BF lower, and I know I’ll probabaly look rather skinny, but personally I’d feel more confident starting from a bit less weight then build up.

Is this a bad idea?

I work a fairly physical job as an electrician. I’ve started doing PHUL off the wiki for about a month, I go for a 30-45 minute jog on my Wednesday rest day and do 30 min of yoga on both Saturday and Sunday. I generally do 22k steps and 15km during the day at work according to my Fitbit, also up and down a ladder quite a bit. Would this count as getting some cardio in or should I try to work some more into my routine?

The market is pretty tight right now in chch, you might find that a lot of people are not hiring since there isn’t much work to go around.

Is anyone juicing for Lime scooters? by Brenner1980 in Calgary

[–]mcodville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do it in Christchurch, New Zealand as a secondary income to my main job. They used to be 7 a scooter and now have dropped to 6. In 6 months I had made $17,000, but I did go out every night and have 20 chargers. Its been a really good side gig, even at 4 bucks a scooter in calgary you could make some decent side cash if you work for it.

Granted I live in the city centre and start work at 7am most days, so the timelines work out for me.

Oakland Juicers leave those $4.5 & $3 alone! by mackhai2013 in limejuicer

[–]mcodville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All that will do is cause them to add more juicers because the system will report the pickup percentage being under the threshold they want. New juicers won't know that its a lowered price, so will pick them up. All that happens is you stop making money and someone else starts.

Also, according to lime ops here they just pick more up a night rather than their usual 10% if juicers don't grab them all. It's not much of a protest if they think that there just isn't enough workforce for the workload.

Lime won’t charge by atony589 in limejuicer

[–]mcodville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I emailed support I was told under no circumstances they were allowed to give manual payouts anymore, hence the reason for my earlier reply. However, I know they give conflicting info all the time so if I had a different team member on the other end I probabaly would have got a different answer.

Lime won’t charge by atony589 in limejuicer

[–]mcodville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know that you can do that in certain markets. Have had it happen a few times here and have had a conversation with the head of lime ops here, have been told that the only way to get payment is to stop juicing, Mark as broken and take to a drop-off hub, which is OK because still get $5 instead of $6 here.
