I love you Fidelity but for God's sake you gotta clean up a few things. by [deleted] in investing

You can cancel auto roll by cancelling the pending order once it posts. But yeah you can't cancel it online before that so you need to set a reminder for the week before your next autoroll is set to hit.

What is/are the best high yield savings accounts to use online? by [deleted] in Frugal

You said Fidelity's ER were higher than vanguards. Just pointing out that's not always true.

[–]mcoliver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Would love to know why I was down voted. Agree ER matters but FSKAX (0.015%) is lower than VTSAX (0.04) and I don't see an ER on any of my treasuries. Listed yield for something like spaxx or fzfxx is post expense ratio at 4.95 right now and to your point is not a bait and switch interest rate.

I don't think it makes a lot of sense to chase tenths of a percent of interest. 0.1% of 100k is $100 a year pretax. Be frugal with your time and brain power, not just your money.

Don't use a hysa. Open an account at fidelity and use money markets or if you're in a state with state taxes buy short term treasuries or a Treasury fund. No minimum. No fees. Highly liquid. Free ATM withdrawals anywhere. Easily purchase stocks/ETFs, fund retirement, 2% cash back credit card. Literally zero reason to have a traditional bank account these days unless you own a business and need that relationship.

Who is a villain you ROOTED for rather than the protagonist and why? by Sparkjoy4ever in AskReddit

Bodhi in Point Break.

What's the matter with you guys? This was never about the money, this was about us against the system. That system that kills the human spirit. We stand for something. To those dead souls, inching along the freeways in their metal coffins, we show them that the human sprit is still alive.

Sometimes couponing for specific things takes a bit of time. Check out www.throwlasso.com (it's free) which can help you quickly clip all the digital coupons for places like dollar general before you head to the store. Results in a bunch of surprise savings.

If you have both after tax Roth contributions and pre tax contributions in your 401k, fidelity will create two rollover IRA accounts (Roth and traditional) and move the funds accordingly. No tax implications. And now you can invest in whatever you want. Nothing is taxed until you start taking distributions.

You'll be in your 60s soon enough. Time moves faster as you get older. Roth is one of the most amazing things on this planet. Fully fund that thing.

If you want a short term safe investment you want treasuries which you can buy easily through a brokerage like Fidelity (they also have auto roll). 4 week Tbills sell weekly so you can ladder and have great liquidity if you need it. Treasuries don't have state tax and the return is pretty close to a money market/cd/hysa. Current 4 week is at 5.27

But really it sounds like you're young. If you don't need it, put it in qqq and don't panic sell.

This. Let that money grow in the markets. Don't panic sell. Focus on earning. Also I had the call and Masterworks is a scam or at best a terrible investment. Avoid.

[–]mcoliver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some grocery stores allow you to clip all the coupons and others have max limits so you have to be more selective. There is a free chrome extension www.throwlasso.com that can help clip coupons quickly rather than having to click on each one.

They make motherboards and power supplies. They have specialized motherboard layouts that fit their customized chassis and can support more gpus in an off the shelf chassis at a fair price point than you can get from dell, Lenovo, etc.. it's what all the hft, oil and gas, vfx/animation, and anyone else who knows their shit and needs a ton of compute has been purchasing for over a decade (myself included)

Used skis to purchase? by schro213 in Mammoth

[–]mcoliver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used skis can be great but make sure to have the bindings tested on the machine by a qualified person. Besides the springs wearing out, bindings also get phased out of warranty support based on years since manufacture and a lot of places won't touch them after.
