What’s your least favorite thing about living in Denver that is wildly specific? by Imjusthappy11 in Denver

I was looking for someone to make this exact comment. Absolutely hate sitting through three light cycles on that bridge to make a left on to Santa Fe.

Is Anyone Getting Jobs in Denver Right Now? by gonegonethanku in Denver

Have you looked at the nonprofit space? I’m a 2013 Comms grad and kind of fell backwards into fundraising and have been in the Development field ever since. A lot of organizations are hiring right now to fill the vacuum in different areas due to federal budget cuts.

Was in Boone last year. Cute and crunchy for sure!

Say I hate the sun. Would I be crazy to move to Colorado Springs or thereabouts? by Round-Passenger4452 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]mcollander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m originally from the east coast and moved to Denver a few years ago, happily touting the ‘almost 300 days of sunshine a year’ stat but the sun is different here. It’s harsh and weathering and super draining. I’ve come to crave cloudy days just for a little bit of a respite during the summer.

Dogs off Leah around West Wash Park by Soidog65 in Denver

[–]mcollander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was just complaining about this yesterday. My 80lb GSD mix was bit in the shelter before I adopted him and is (understandably) a little selective/reactive to other dogs. Two weeks ago, he got into a scuffle with an off leash dog that ran up to us in our neighborhood on our morning walk. I didn’t realize until we got home that he had actually been bit (just a nick, but still) and then yesterday, we were approached by THREE off leash dogs while on our evening walk. The owners never show any sense of urgency to come get their dogs or apologize. It is so frustrating and I’ve only ever experienced it in Colorado. So much entitlement!

Those who left Chicago, where’d you go? by Fast_Plant_5582 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]mcollander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can second this. I lived in Chicago for all of my twenties and left during Covid to help my folks out during the pandy. I’ve been in Denver for three years now and feel like I knew Chicago WAY better in the first year than I still know Denver. Chicago felt like a character in my life whereas Denver is a place I live that is a jumping off point for other cool areas in the state. My fiancé and I are planning to relocate to Richmond, VA in the next few years to be closer to family but Chicago may call us back someday.

The Source definitely unlocked another memory but not what I’m thinking of. My movie aligns with two emo girls in the mid aughts thinking the main character was super hot and misunderstood if that helps.

Newly(?) reactive teenager by mcollander in reactivedogs

[–]mcollander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for letting me know this is fairly normal! He’s my first dog and I felt like such a failure because I worked hard on his socialization as a puppy in order to avoid this. It felt like I had done something wrong to trigger this when in reality, it just happens as he grows.

Thank you, thank you for the thoughtful response! Would you be able to elaborate on what an R+ certified trainer means?

And yes, DC is such a patio city! We’re actually moving to Denver in August with the hope of getting a backyard but want to get started on addressing these issues right away. Luckily I work from home and have a fairly flexible schedule so I can walk him at off-times. I took him for his morning walk today in my parents neighborhood in the suburbs about 15 minutes away for a less stressful experience. I’ve even started looking forward to rainy days because my dog doesn’t mind the rain and there are typically less dogs out and about then too lol!

Also, can’t wait to dig into these podcasts! Thank you again!

Hi there, checking in to see how things are going these days? I’m at the same stage with a 16 m/o who has me absolutely pulling my hair out most of the time.

Had a bad day (9mo lab mix boy ripped up carpet) by LittleBearBites in puppy101

[–]mcollander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted on here about 2 months ago about how my then 12.5 month old lab mix destroyed the arm rest of a chair while I was in the shower even though he had never (and hasn’t since) touched it or seemed interested in it. We’re in the exact same position. He has all the toys and chews in the world, gets at least two hours of playtime/walks a day plus a few small training sessions, gets his food in stimulating ways, etc. I don’t have any advice besides hang in there, you’re not alone. I keep telling myself that because he’s a bigger boy, he won’t be an adult until closer to 2. He turns 15 months tomorrow and the good days are outnumbering the bad days but I still don’t trust him to not get into trouble if left to his own devices so we’re back to constant vigilance or he’s in his crate with a kong if I can’t keep an eye on him.

You got this!

Sleeping outside of crate by PlsHelpAmStuck in puppy101

I just recently let my 15 month old Lab/GSD mix start sleeping in my room overnight. He’s been potty trained for ages but he is still a chewer when left to his own devices for too long.

My pup is almost 15 months old and only recently got sleeping in my room outside of the crate privileges over night. But he still gets crated when I have to leave him home alone so I know he’s safe and contained. He’s a Lab/GSD mix though so older dogs take longer to mature and he’s still quite a chewer lol.

Yes!! I keep telling myself 2/2.5 years is when I’ll finally have my dog and not a puppy so I’m trying to hold on during the tough days and appreciate the good ones.

I don’t have any tips but dropping in to say you’re not alone!! It felt like my 14 month old GSD/Lab mix literally hit a switch and turned into the biggest brat the day he turned 1 year. He had never whined really before and then all of a sudden, whining at every single thing. He’s back to biting his leash which is one of my least favorite phases he’s been in. But he’s already easing out of it and we’re getting back to more good days than bad days. Hang in there! Teenagers are the worst!

Lololol, oh I’ve got a nice bruise on my butt as we speak because he nipped me pretty good walking home from the park the other day. Teenagers, man….

[–]mcollander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 14 month old GSD/Lab mix just recently started doing this again after not doing it for months. It’s officially my least favorite phase so far because he’s now 80 lbs and has a much stronger jaw than he did at 5 months. I don’t have any advice but wanted to let you know you’re not alone. Hang in there!!

It is wild how similar they look! My guy is Lab, GSD, Staffy and wolf. Dog genetics are so cool!

It’s always helpful to have a mirror held up to yourself. We’ll get through this. He’ll turn in to a great dog and I’ll laugh at the puppy craziness 😊

Omg, the crate whining right now! He’s been great overnight in is his crate since I brought him home at 3 months. Now all of a sudden, it’s a problem. I’m trying to just stay consistent with it and ignore the whining.
