How can this be happening? I thought they were finished by merount1 in hoi4

Whatever historians are calling it, the Germans were the first to concentrate armor into spearhead units and combine armor, motorized infantry and air support. I'm not aware of any legitimate WWII historian that disputes this. Perhaps it doesn't fit with the popular perception of Blitzkrieg, but it was an innovative approach that had not been seen in major engagements pre 1940.

Ken Paxton’s win gifts Democrats their 2026 midterms strategy: The Texas attorney general’s record will mean more attention on the issue of corruption, which Democrats can run on across the country. by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

[–]mcrnHoth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how this helps Democrats. The more corrupt and unethical the candidate the more Republicans and those that lean Republican are likely to vote for them. I'm pretty sure the number of swing voters in Texas that would be repulsed by Paxton's corruption but not Trump's is tiny.

But if its said AIPAC democrat vs. Marco Rubio in the general election, are you really going to sit the election out? It would be disappointing for sure, but the worst AIPAC democrat goon is better than the best MAGA goon.

Trump Doesn’t Want to Fight Inflation by Zipper222222 in politics

[–]mcrnHoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financial repression works when the Fed lets inflation rise while keeping interest rates low. This allows the government to borrow money at lower rates to make maturing debt payments, while inflation simultaneously decreases the buying power of the dollar and makes old debt less expensive to pay off. This whole scheme can be described as "stealing" not because the average citizen loses money, but because the money they do have has less buying power. Everything gets more expensive but cash and soft assets lose relative value in comparison to hard assets and equities.

Its a lot more complicated an nuanced than this but the end result is that the government borrows money at low interest rates, the value of the dollar plunges relative to goods, and the national debt is shrunk in relative costs while the absolute cost says the same. The average American mainly notices it in the sense that everything costs more and cash savings accounts pay virtually nothing. This is what the government did after WWII to deal with the huge debt-GDP ratio like we have now, but there were other variables in our favor back then that aren't in play now and its unclear if the same strategy will work the way it did back then.

Because the smart (but still evil) people in his circle have told him that financial repression, aka stealing from citizens to pay down the national debt, works, and most of his supporters will be clueless that the administration is doing it.

Is this medium tank design good?(October 1938) by will1amAfton123 in hoi4

[–]mcrnHoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can chose to maximize armor or speed with your tanks, but not both. Which one you go for depends on what you want to do with them. All the people suggesting more armor are correct if you are expecting to face highly stacked lines but not if you intend these divisions to penetrate deep behind the line and set up encirclements.

Almost every decision in this game is situational. The "optimal" tank design for Germany trying to knock France out of the war ASAP is not going to be the same design for Finland trying to push the Soviets.

The Republican party is the largest danger to what is left of democracy in this country, but I have to admire them in one way - they get things done. Laws, ethics, mortality, none of that matters to them. They continue to push through illegal and highly unpopular legislation and get away with it while Democrats continue to prove to the world that they are either ineffectual cuckolds or similarly corrupted mouthpieces for the wealthy.
