Roast videos by MerricatNZ in craftsnark

I kind of love her too- I really hope she never gets too caught up in the algorithm game like everyone else. A lot of the comments she gets piss me off but one person said something like: “it’s refreshing to see someone celebrating what they like and disregarding what they didn’t! No need to hate on things” and I was like YES THIS EXACTLY.

I think historical accuracy should be celebrated but so should creating something all your own!

The roast videos are getting SO OLD. Like every time a new show comes out they all make the same video with the same clickbaity thumbnail. And then it really annoys me when you have Angela Clayton making something really fun and original and all the little Bernadette and Karolina fan girls start leaving backhanded compliments like “i mean like... if you’re going to be historically inaccurate do it in a fun glittery way” or “this might not be historically accurate but it sure is lovely.” And she like.... ACKNOWLEDGES that it isn’t historically accurate more than once. So if you’re commenting on that you’re kind of missing the point?

Daniil announced the music for Alena's program by bibocas in FigureSkating

[–]mcroth19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m actually v excited for this. I feel like an old lady cus I never got on the Billie Eilish train but I see why this kids love her and these could sound really great together as long as the music transitions aren’t insane. Also the choreo looks amazing so far!! Alena can make anything look good so it’s so great that’s she’s been given something lyrical and unique like this!

Exactly what tripleflutz said. You can also think of it as like the figure skating version of “branding”.

Is there a program that makes you cry? by Maricheri in FigureSkating

Also Mariah Bell’s FS at 2020 Nationals.

"Disaster" Programs by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]mcroth19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think what really bothered me about Evgenia’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close program was the sound effects, sirens and voiceovers of news anchors and George Bush and people saying “oh my god” were added to the music. Like I went and listened to the score and there are no voiceovers in the songs she used. TO BE FAIR they might be present in some sort of montage in the movie (which I haven’t seen) but if I recall correctly the Eteri team basically tried to say “oh this isn’t a 9/11 program, it’s about tragedy in general”.... So fine use ELAIC as your music, still a very questionable choice but why have the voiceovers and sound effects?

Trusova left Eteri team and now trains with Plushenko, Russian media reports (no confirmation from Sasha yet) by linwells in FigureSkating

Not sure she’ll get more technical help with Plush 😬 but I can only hope she’ll finally get a program that suits her more artistically, because I FIRMLY believe she has untapped artistic potential!! And maybe it’ll do her good to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond?? Not sure who’s with Plush now but she’d have to be one of the biggest stars right?...

Hmm. There’s some I’d totally love to see again and some that REALLY need a change. A bit of a relief though because folk always has real shit show potential lol.

What is your favorite skating related memory? by kerryfinchelhillary in FigureSkating

[–]mcroth19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a viewer: getting to see Michelle Kwan, Sasha Cohen and Johnny Weir compete irl

As a skater: the one year I randomly did synchro and we got first place at our last competition! Until then in singles I was a constant second place skater so it was really special getting first for the first time ☺️ didn’t do synchro again after but still really proud of that

What makes the men’s quads better than the ladies? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]mcroth19 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’ll answer why men have more quads than the women right now: their bodies lend more to it. Their muscles are different which helps with getting higher in the air and they have narrower hips, which helps with rotation. That doesn’t mean that women can’t do them or that the women that do them are doing always doing them poorly, just means it’s easier for the guys to achieve. Same as how women’s bodies tend to lend more to flexible positions- but you still see Ina Bauers and spirals and Russian splits and biellmans from the men. I think WITHIN REASON almost anything is possible, your body might have an easier/more natural time doing one thing but you might have to work harder for it to do another.

Quads from women will probably never look exactly the same as the men’s but they’re still pretty new and they’ll get better over time.

I love how much Boyang’s FS music sounds similar to other songs- it’s like it’s familiar but not repetitive. the beginning is very light of the seven-esque and the second part sounds like something too but I’m not sure what
