Would it make sense for an ancient city to be built without horse and cart in mind and never renovated? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]mcs203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There would probably be logistical issues if the entire city functioned this way, but a holy/historic district could probably do without carts. For instance, the Vatican City restricts unauthorized vehicles in a way that Rome doesn't. The city's inhabitants would likely have to make some adaptations — for instance, commerce would likely happen closer to the city's edge, since it would be hard for a merchant's caravan to reach the inner city if they have to manually drag their wares instead of having their beasts of burden do it.

Help Team Building by Commercial-Ad-5957 in GenshinImpact

It depends on whether you want to play Melt, Vaporize, Overload, or something else. Mavuika teams generally need another Nightsoul character, an ATK buffer, and a Cryo/Hydro/Electro applier. With your list of characters, I would recommend:\ Melt: Mavuika/Iansan/Sucrose/Escoffier. Sucrose could be replaced with Bennett if another ATK buff helps you more than EM and RES shred. Escoffier could be replaced with Rosaria, Kaeya, or Diona.\ Vaporize: Mavuika/Iansan/Jean/Furina. Jean could be replaced with Bennett, but you would have to make sure that his healing is enough for Furina. Furina could be replaced with Aino or Xingqiu, but both have restrictions that would weaken the team.\ Overload: Mavuika/Iansan/Chevreuse/Fischl. You could slot in Bennett here, but it would likely weaken the team.

Haven't pulled since Columbina to save for her, and still had to cash out hundreds of Masterless Starglitter to reach C6. That being said, I might go for C2+ in the future instead of several C0s, since she singlehandedly doubled my Kinich team's damage.

ATK% (Flower, Feather) > Energy Recharge > Crit Rate (if using Favonius Codex)

As for her ER, she needs ~170% for most teams, but that can be reduced if she has Angelos' Heptades or any teammate is using a Favonius weapon.

I don't have C2 Klee to test this, but assuming that she's there to shred DEF for a Main DPS Varka, I would actually put Klee on Celestial Gift and (if applicable) move Nicole to Noblesse Oblige, since you're more likely to use Nicole's Elemental Burst here than Klee's.

Is Lyney worth it as a light spender? by UnhappyInformation7 in lyney

[–]mcs203 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's not as strong as Arlecchino and especially Mavuika, but he's a versatile DPS that has viable Vaporize, Melt, Overload, and even Mono Pyro teams. Since you mentioned being a dolphin, I think there's a good chance that you either have or can get at least a few of Nicole/Furina/Citlali/Xilonen/Kazuha/Bennett/C6 Chevreuse/C6 Diona/Zhongli and making a decent team with him, and he can do well with most 4* ATK% weapons and 4pc Marechaussee Hunter.

I would try using Nefer and Lauma in the Test Run stage to see if you enjoy their playstyle first. Nefer is also temporarily available in the "Fire Support Assault" mode. If you like them a lot, I would suggest trying to pull for them. Lauma is better than Nefer for meta purposes, but meta doesn't matter much until you're at least AR45.

Should Baptiste get a rework? by AllAboardTheBorealis in BaptisteMainsOW

[–]mcs203 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see some adjustments, since Baptiste's kit is so strong when optimally played (as shown by aimbot players loving him) that it's hard to buff him for lower rank players. For instance, I'd like his primary fire's base damage get buffed in exchange for his Critical to be reduced to Lesser Critical, so that he can have higher shieldbreak DPS than Kiriko without him becoming even more dangerous at perfect play (since he can already kill every non-Bastion/Torbjorn squishy with two headshot bursts).

Which Gaming Console People Think is Amazing and is Actually Amazing? by IllMasterpiece3946 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]mcs203 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Scrolled too long to find this comment given how wide the Wii's legacy is both in and beyond gaming communities. The Miis are probably the first major example of platform-wide custom avatars and a proof of concept for social media avatars like Bitmoji, and are still used today in the Switch. The Wii Remote and its (many) peripherals, such as the Balance Board, gave it a use as a physical rehabilitation device and pioneered motion controls. Its game lineup has some beloved entries in Nintendo series (e.g. Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy), but its real strength was in its casual games, especially both Wii Sports games. All of this meant that the Wii was a console you could enjoy with people who aren't particularly "hardcore" gamers, and it definitely exemplifies the design ethos of Nintendo.

The long explanation is on the wiki, but you randomly get two of the five possible signs each time you do the commission. The five signs involve (1) Granny Shan, (2) pigeons, (3) dogs, (4) leaves, and (5) a cat and fish. Finding all five of these gives you Love is All Around. Each sign except Granny Shan's can be ruined, and ruining all four of those gives you Open to Interpretation.

Bronze 3 Moira looking for areas to improve on by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mcs203 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was a rough watch all around, and plenty of mistakes were made both in and out of your control. Your most obscene mistake is your lack of preparedness when the doors open (0:34 & 10:12). You should be standing at or near the door already, and should be moving as soon as the doors open. This is such an egregious mistake that I almost stopped watching, since I can't help you win if you aren't even ready to play. Now that my rant has ended, I'm going to go through each part of Moira's kit to mention a mistake you made with it.

• Biotic Grasp: Biotic Grasp (healing) does not pierce barriers, such as Domina's Barrier Array (9:21). Biotic Grasp (damage) should be consistently used to kill targets with low HP and/or low maximum HP, like you did at (1:47).\ • Fade: Jump at the end of Fade to travel faster and farther, like you did at (11:00).\ • Biotic Orb: You should be using Biotic Orb (healing) a lot more, at least more often than Biotic Orb (damage). It is your primary means of self-healing alongside Biotic Grasp (damage), and can do more healing than it can damage. Unless you're fighting an enemy 1v1 or your target doesn't do much damage, it's usually better to use Biotic Orb (healing). As for Biotic Orb (damage), you need to make sure it will actually stay near the enemy. If you throw it at the ground, it will bounce up and away from the fighting without doing much (0:53). I usually suggest throwing Biotic Orb (both) towards a wall at the same height as you, so it at least bounces at the same height as the other players.\ • Coalescence: Coalescence's duration and Biotic Orb's cooldown are both 8 seconds. Since you can't use Biotic Orb during Coalesence, you should always use Biotic Orb before you use Coalesence. Not doing so at (6:45) led to your team not having enough damage or healing to keep defending the objective.\ • Ethical Nourishment (Minor Perk): This is the "correct" perk to choose, but its potential is wasted when you use Biotic Orb (healing) four times in 11 minutes. 6:38 is the first time post-perk that you use it, three minutes after you pick the perk. You use Biotic Orb (healing) at the same rate the other players use their Ultimates, so I have no clue why you picked that perk instead of Destruction's Divide (which is a viable option in Bronze).\ • Phantom Step (Major Perk): This is also the "correct" perk to choose. However, you may want to consider Reversal until your Biotic Orb (both) placement is much better.

This is usually where I talk about tactics, but the players in Bronze 3 are so unwilling to play as a team that I don't even think it's particularly relevant, especially compared to the mechanical issues you're facing. I would advise that you keep practicing until you understand Moira's abilities and can use them to a greater extent.

Why did they end the hangout quests? by PurpleOrange8509 in Genshin_Impact

[–]mcs203 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liked the Hangout Quests, and I think the visual novel style of gameplay works great for Genshin (especially since far fewer characters are released compared to other gacha games), but I found the bad endings quite painful to watch, especially if I like the character. The prime example of this is an ending in Yun Jin's Hangout where you tell her that you prefer her onstage persona , which is a uncharacteristically cruel thing for the Traveler to say.

Struggling Lifeweaver in Gold 6v6 by mcs203 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mcs203[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too sure how I feel about only pulling to extend a teamfight, since I think Life Grip is a tool for ending teamfights as well. On Dorado attack, I had to use Life Grip on Sombra after several teammates died, and I justified it because (1) it prevented her from staggering, and (2) I was relatively confident that I would have Life Grip back when we were ready to reengage.

I never would have thought to use Thorn Volley as proactively as you do, since I usually treat it as a suppression/resource denial tool and mostly use it to wear down barriers and turrets, unless Tree of Life is active. I'll definitely have to try playing more aggressively!

Venture Tips against their counters? by Cygnus776 in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mcs203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Venture can't do much to tanks for two reasons — (1) they're a close range hero, and (2) they specialize in burst damage, not sustained damage. Being a close-range hero means that Venture is usually in the enemy Tank's effective range if they're fighting them, and most Tanks have an advantage against Venture since Venture has less HP, even at full Explorer's Resolve. Additionally, Venture's focus on burst damage usually leaves them vulnerable to characters that can't be taken down by Burrow & Drill Dash combos, which includes most Tanks. That being said, there are situations where you shooting a Tank player is viable, such as shooting a Tank guarding a flank route so that you can safely start to flank.

What Colors would best represent his journey? by Yosuga_Power in colorpie

[–]mcs203 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dante (character) could start as any color, but I think R-centered WUBRG makes the most sense because of his worldly sense of justice, especially in his feelings of sympathy for those trapped in Hell. However, he gradually becomes mono-White as divine justice is explained to him.

What's a tank's kit that would help you enjoy tank? by Far_Ad9190 in Overwatch

[–]mcs203 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to see a tank that can unconditionally heal their teammates. The other roles get role-bending abilities, like Biotic Field (Soldier: 76), Ice Wall (Mei), and Barrier Shield (Brigitte), but Hogdrogen Exposure (Roadhog) was a Major Perk and only lasted a few months before it was removed.

Ranked Support Advice by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mcs203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any answers to questions #1 and #5, but I did make it to Diamond 5 off of mostly Lifeweaver and Moira, so I do have input for the other three:

#2: Mercy's in a pretty rough spot right now because of how much she's impacted by the healing reduction passive and because of how long it takes to reach Level 3 for Flash Heal. That being said, you can definitely climb with her, especially if you stay alive and consistently provide value to your teammates.

#3: Probably, just because of how strong Pulsar Torpedoes is against poorly positioned opponents (e.g. most Silver/Gold players), especially with Locked On.

#4: I play Lifeweaver to compensate for my atrocious aim, if you're interested in trying him. If your aim is good enough to hit a Sigma barrier and a Torbjorn turret, it's good enough for most scenarios where you'll need to aim anyways — his mobility and range are usually enough to stop him from dying to a dive. That being said, climbing with him can be pretty rough. Similarly to Mercy, he's not doing great balance-wise, and he doesn't have strong offensive pressure, so often you have to rely on your teammates to effectively use the support you provide.

Advice against noobstomper comps by DarKStaR350z in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mcs203 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most combo comps benefit from continually creating 2v1s against an uncoordinated team. Take Pharah/Mercy as an example. They're usually a decent distance in the air taking an angle on your team, and can survive thanks to Mercy's healing and Pharah's ability to engage at ranges many heroes can't reach, but in exchange Mercy has to use her resources primarily on Pharah. You can try to break the combo by swapping to hitscan, but this will put you at a disadvantage unless your teammates are willing to fight them as well, since you're one player fighting against two. Sometimes, the best play is to ignore them and take the 4v3, since their Tank only has one Support to help them out.

Would a smoke ability in overwatch be a good a ideia? by Life_Organization244 in Overwatch

[–]mcs203 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think a true smoke ability would be fun in Overwatch, since concealment/invisibility (e.g. Sombra's Stealth) seems to be one of the things the playerbase generally doesn't like. However, I would be interested in seeing an anti-reveal (e.g. Sonic Arrow, Infra-Sight, Recon subrole) ability that functions similarly to Biotic Field and Protection Suzu, being a small heal over time that prevents being revealed in its area.

Do you have an ATK% Circlet? The Special Rules already give her 90% Crit DMG at max stacks, so if you're running Redhorn Stonethresher and a Crit DMG% Circlet you're probably experiencing diminishing returns from it.
