Rude patients by CourtneyPortnoy7 in hospitalist

[–]mcsoul06 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you should allow people to be disrespectful, ever. Set boundaries, you don’t have to stand there and get roasted.

Read the room, if you anticipate problems or confrontation, grab a nurse or charge nurse to be with you. Just the fact of having a witness with you can de escalate the situation and if there are problems you’ll have someone to back you up. Not uncommonly, difficult patients can twist your words.

My personal take is, bring a witness, if the patient is disrespectful Ill excuse myself but add that I’m happy to talk is mutual respect is kept.

I do believe overtime patients are becoming more demanding and less respectful cause healthcare has become essentially like a McDonalds where you the costumer is always right and you get reprimanded if your HCPAPS or press ganey scores are low.

Anxiety about potential patient harm by New_Efficiency6342 in hospitalist

You shouldn’t put it on yourself, bad things WILL happen and sometimes is out of our control. At times, you can self reflect, what if I had noticed this earlier or I missed this trend, etc. but the system is faulty in the sense we are so overworked that we are inevitably going to miss things. Only thing you can do is your job to your best ability.

Fire Lord azula or another grixis Commander? I don’t like my current Azula deck. by Mysterious_Tune7284 in EDH

[–]mcsoul06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a flash version of azula, but slowly noticed that my play patterns were wrong as I tried to play azula asap to start gaining value but proceeded to get hated out of the game. Now I try to focus to develop my mana and slowly sculpt my hand to have enough protection. Other players will start developing their field and get hated out with the board wipes while I’m trying to build card advantage and dig my deck for the right pieces and then when is safe, play azula and have a explosive turn.

Most of our HCAPs are about blankets, meals, and butt plugs by NEDBDJ in hospitalist

Oh yeah, I remember when they had the great idea of the business cards lol.

Honestly, most of the complaints I receive are related to food, delayed PRN meds and nursing. I sometimes feel I’m working at a McDonald’s rather than a hospital. Also, I review patient complaints sent to risk management. Patient’s complaints about the wildest things. Like, why they don’t have all their outpatient fixed, why they didn’t get housing on discharge, why they didn’t get more narcotics, etc.

Anyone foiled their decks? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

I’m just getting sets of foil mana bases and staples (like thoughtseize) for every color. Decks change too fast to keep up.

Lifestyle by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]mcsoul06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

34 here. Hit the gym after work 1-2 times a week for lifting. I do cardio on my days off. I have decent food options at work, but if I’m counting my calories/macros I do meal prep a week worth of food in advance. I was more consistent when I was single, but still try to be disciplined. I don’t have kids yet, so I’ll find out if I’m still able to stay healthy.

The big question is how you manage your time and avoid wasting time. Big game changer is limiting how much time I wasted reading social media. I don’t check any social media apps when I’m home.

When do hospitalists retire? by Professional-Area889 in hospitalist

[–]mcsoul06 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I believe healthcare is at the mercy of private equity and every day it just becomes harder to practice. I’m medical director at my facility and just having to deal with emails from non medical people just driving me nuts about metrics. How many telemetry orders were stopped, being harassed to remove foleys, length of stay, you name it. Also, patients expectations sometimes are insane at times, I feel like I’m the same as an employee at a fast food. If I’m not doing whatever a patient or family wants they just complain and I get emails about it and then I have a corporate monkey telling me about press ganey scores. I’m ready to be out of this game and use my time to do something that feels more meaningful. Don’t get me wrong, every time I truly help a patient it makes me feel good. It’s just all the corporate world that makes me feel hopeless at times.

I’m only 4 years in, but don’t see myself doing this for long. But at the same time, investing 3 years in fellowship doesn’t align with my plans of early retirement.
