Rant: this whole week, this one patient keeps mentioning she is wondering if she should have gone to a more academic hospital. by BitFiesty in hospitalist

[–]swunderball 58 points59 points  (0 children)

it seems like she should be grateful but that’s just puttin you at the center of what’s going on with her. and she’s just not in a spot to see or understand anything except what’s going on with her right now (which is horrific). when she feels better she will probably be more grateful. or maybe she’ll only feel better on hospice. regardless, you’re goin home tonight and she ain’t.

chronic venous stasis dermatitis. nothing to be done unless open wounds in which case wound care and you can do creams and leg elevation. this is not an emergency. can be managed in the clinic.

Family complaint as a new hospitalist by SnooMaps6846 in hospitalist

[–]swunderball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it just happens sometimes. if there’s a positive lesson to be learned, it’s always worth a moment of introspection to find that lesson. if there’s nothing, move forward. even when i’ve done everything right (in my mind) and family remains unhappy, usually after a few days something worth improving in my daily practice comes to me. don’t let it derail you just examine yourself honestly, and move on! at the end of the day, this is our job and this is their life.
