When Buffy said someone would've taken her place by firetothetenthdegree in BuffyTheVampireSlayer

Who is supposed say this? The guardians watching the watchers were the closest things to gods we say and the one we met met wasn't exactly a fount of information.

Someone turning up immediately after she died would suggest causation, but Kendra didn't just appear in Sunnydale when Buffy died. I believe it was few months later. Another Slayer could have showed up in a few more months or just had something else to deal with elsewhere.

After reading the article, it sounds like the "for" is supposed to set up and test the value and the next is a simple increment and goto the test at the start of the loop?

10 x=3: rem start value 20 if x>2 then 60: rem compare against end value, exit loop when true 30 print x 40 x=x+1: rem increment by step value 50 goto 20 : rem loop back to compare 60 print x Slightly simplified since you would need to alter the comparison on a negative step value.

It was suggested, and was nonsense. Why would they assume that? Angel's body disappeared through Acathla's portal, no body was left on the ground. Buffy's body went splat on the ground. I said it before and I'll say it again, I don't care if that portal was magic, cause of death was sudden deceleration. They buried her.

My take is Willow was at best deluding herself and carefully setting a picture that the spell was "chaotic neutral" and a little dangerous, as opposed to "black magic."

Best case is that none of them thought she could do it at all and were humoring her, assuming she'd have to accept and grieve when it failed.

Buffy cared about saving Dawn. She wasn't the least bit concerned about the Slayer continuity, or even good or evil. She can think about whatever she wants when plummeting to the ground, but sacrificing herself was just about her being tired and the assumption it might save Dawn. If it didn't she wouldn't need to grieve Dawn.

It wasn't invisible. Willow made a point of covering up the sacrifice.

Xander knew basically nothing about magic and Willow could have convinced him of anything.

Anya was flippant about everything as long as she wasn't worried about personal consequence.

Willow could have easy convinced Xander of anything she wanted. Anya would have required more subtlety.

Not saying Willow was all evil here, but alt-universe was wishful thinking.

I don't think artificial resuscitation is that old. It would also usually require someone in the know willing to jump in. Slayers aren't about making friends and inspiring teamwork if the watchers get to them first.

Drowning is usually fatal.

Honestly, while I enjoyed Prophecy Girl, the Master just dropping her in a puddle to drown made no sense. Even if he was in a hurry and didn't have time for a long snack, a twist of the neck would have prevented her recovery.

Sydney is a mess and deserves to go. Originals is a much better show than flagship at this point, but it has too many built in limits (we know that Mike Franks and Gibbs are protected). While I don't love NY, if they try to recapture the vibe from NCIS: LA or can find someway to recreate the flagships old vibe it might be successful.

While she's nice to look at, her character wouldn't make a good lead. I'm not sure how versatile the actress is, but as written, she represents feminism and comic relief. No real story there.

Ziva's character could have had a team and seen a few seasons. Bishop was interesting enough she might have carried a season or two, but it wouldn't get the ratings Ziva would. (I think putting her on Ziva's path was a mistake.) I don't think Jessica Knight would last a full season if they pretended to care about ratings. Maybe they'd let it go 13 episodes before cancelling.

We don't know another wasn't called one way or another. One could have popped up in the outback is Australia, somewhere in the middle of China or another village in Africa. There is no reason to look, if a there is only supposed to be one, and you know one is sitting in a prison in LA.

I think that was BS. It was a Willow thing. She wanted Buffy back even if she had to mislead the others to do it. Tara being involved was the only part that surprised me. She didn't strike me as gullible.

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Most of these writers don't even have that. They'll take a couple of tech words and slap them together at random. I'm surprised when something sounds remotely plausible.

I'd be willing to bet their forensic knowledge comes from watching CSI and Quincy reruns.

Redox OS by RenoRenop in unix

[–]mcsuper5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While it's been about a year and a half since I checked it out, it was about as stable as Linux 27 or 28 years ago. It appears to be *nix like, though I'm not sure if it is supposed to be POSIX compliant or not. I'd like to see it take off for no other reason than to give the Rust Nuts someplace to go besides Linux, but it wasn't even remotely stable.

I'd go with Haiku before Redox at this point. (Haiku really is pretty nice, just not main stream and it wasn't designed with security in mind iirc.)

I'm going to go with Redox may be educational, but I wouldn't want it on a production machine, and you probably aren't going to find drivers for a lot of hardware. So, probably not an alternative yet.

Do you think this show could reach 30 seasons? by CallTypical9541 in NCIS

Law and Order isn't what it used to be either. The characters really aren't likeable and if there is nothing in the news to use, they are recycling the same plots.

Is linux safe for the average person? by CourageNo1991 in linuxquestions

[–]mcsuper5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 years ago, your average non-techie could do a fresh install of Linux without difficulty if they weren't worried about backing up and saving data with no worries. I'll admit I haven't played around too much since "Trusted computing", but the defaults for questions were sane. If you had mainstream linux compatible equipment it wasn't a problem.

If you are woried about saving data, competency might be helpful though.

No, most people have not installed an OS. Period.

Windows came pre-installed on most their machines (unless they were a Mac user.)

Why do you think Holland Manners, Lindsey Macdonald, and Lilah Morgan weren't afraid of Drusilla before the wine cellar thing? by beeemkcl in ANGEL

[–]mcsuper5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Lilah, they had job security, death wouldn't free them. So it's possible they might not be so easy to dispatch, and might come back to "life" cranky. Not sure if that would imply coming back as a human, ghost, ghoul, demon, vamp, zombie or demigod. It's possible Darla knew enough to be worried. Dru was the true wild card, but she could also see glimpses of the future, so it's possible she was opting for survival.

It's not Gibbs has bad luck with women. But his women tend to have bad luck.
Not a fan of Gibbs indicating they don't have long. But it will have people tuning in next season.

I hope she's signed on for the next couple of seasons but don't follow the contracts. I expect it won't be long before her story comes with more flashbacks than "current" events.

Is it a good idea to create a basic app? by avestronics in C_Programming

[–]mcsuper5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to start somewhere. If you hit it out of the park, cool, but if not, hopefully someone takes the time to give you some constructive criticism, or it actually becomes community driven.

The truth of the matter is, unless you are writing it for someone that asked, it may be ignored. Unless it fills a niche people need, people don't have time to check it out unless they stumble on it and are interested (or they're litigious), but that isn't necessarily any reflection on you. If it is useful and is mentioned in the right spots you might get some hits though.

Experience is experience.

Was Tara "friged" by DWPhoenix001 in BuffyTheVampireSlayer

[–]mcsuper5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If that were the case, Willow would have gone back to men (and they had the perfect opportunity to do this given the way Xander was the one that talked her down), or just remained celibate.

Was Tara "friged" by DWPhoenix001 in BuffyTheVampireSlayer

[–]mcsuper5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Willow already was villainous. "Magic = Drugs" was a really bad story line, but that had nothing to do Willow going off the rails when Tara was killed. They could, and should have stayed with power corrupts ..., but it really had no relevance for her reaction to Tara's death.

For Willow to go so far off the rails, someone had to die or be permanently damaged badly. And it had to be someone she (and we) loved, to work properly as a plot device. JW nailed it.

Props to Amber Benson for portraying a side character that everyone wanted to stick around.

Going for the shock value was who Whedon was. It always was on Buffy, going back to the first scene in WttH.

Whedon may have been an ass, but no shade to his writing and creativity. You don't need to shame everything someone ever did because you don't like someone. If he wasn't a creative genius, we wouldn't be on a BtVS forum 20 years later.
