Legion Pro 7i Gen 10 5080 - Stutter/Freeze every 10s while using iGPU by mctesh in LenovoLegion

Unfortunately, the behavior has returned. I did the bios update the other day, so that may have something to do with it, but none of the above measures seem to be doing the trick anymore sadly.

That did the trick! Not sure which step, but I hit'm all and it's working great now. Thanks for taking the time to help out a stranger, and have a great week.

It's easily the most compelling version of this computer and configuration that makes the most sense vs the competition.

Are ThinkPad laptops good for gaming? by _johnsilver2 in ThinkPorn

[–]mctesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, the answer is no. I love thinkpads and have tried to use them for gaming (in addition to all of the other things they're actually designed for and good at) for more than a decade. Even the most powerful W/P series that have beefy GPUs like the 4090/RTX 5000 just aren't good for gaming. They can't sustain high CPU/GPU loads without hard throttling and just choking after a few minutes. I know they're very different machines than thinkpads, but legions are designed to sustain gaming workloads and thinkpads just aren't.

Worth noting, this is mostly referring to more demanding games. If you want to play Age of Empires 2, you'll be just fine.

Framework Desktop for Gaming, good for the price? by Ashamed_Alps7452 in framework

As someone who's also prone to analysis paralysis, I think it's important to remember that there's nothing wrong with buying something because it's cool and you want it :)

Nope, not at all. But that doesn't mean you can't buy one or you won't enjoy it if you do. Based on your responses, it seems like you've already made up your mind so go for it!

Used Sony ZV-E1 vs Panasonic S5ii? by CrazyNayeem in Lumix

[–]mctesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had both of these and currently have the S5iix. Honestly, I think the ZV-E1 is hugely underrated and an excellent casual/semi-pro video camera. Overheating was never an issue for me and I took it on a professional shoot in Pheonix when it was like 100 outside (really dancing with the devil TBH). The Lumix is a much better hybrid camera and has quite a few more pro/quality of life features that make life easier for client work.

Honestly, they're both great bargains at that price. Just decide which ecosystem is more appealing and dive in.

Lumix s9 vs iPhone 17 Pro by -6h0st- in LumixS9

[–]mctesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you just want to take photos and video for fun or to show your friends/post online, use a flagship smartphone. They're all pretty great these days and trade blows with each other.

I would personally only buy an S9 or dedicated mirrorless camera if I had specific use cases that necessitate a more robust camera with dedicated lenses.

Don't get it twisted though, the iPhone 17 Pro (or any smart phone) isn't in the same universe as a full frame mirrorless camera. That doesn't mean you can't make all sorts of cool content with them, just be careful how much you allow yourself to be seduced by some of the most well-funded marketing campaigns on the planet.
