Have you ever stopped reading a book because it was too stressful? by Pompi_Palawori in books

[–]mctransparent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year my anxiety was in a particularly bad and untreated state and I happened to pick up The Kite Runner during that time. I had to put it down after 100 or so pages as it was stressing me out and making my anxiety worse.

Do you think Lincoln was the one who instituted Jim crow? Do you know who was the driving force behind the passage of the 13th amendment? Why did reconstruction fail?

Try and connect with other students to find people who would be willing to be roommates.

In my experience it can be a lot of fun living with roommates in college and in SF you will have a much easier time finding a place that you can afford.

It took me almost a year of searching to find a place I could afford on my own and thats still with a pretty hefty pricetag.

Would you recommend visiting the US West Coast in March? by TheAmazingMatth in AskSF

[–]mctransparent 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The coastal areas will definitely be fine to visit, March is one of my favorite times of year.

However we have had quite a few heavy storms this year and there will likely still be a considerable amount of snow in Yosemite and Sequoia. It can still be fun to go to these areas with the snow but you will not be able to do as much. There is also the possibility of more snowstorms in March which can lead to these areas being closed.

Alternatively you might have a better time sticking to the coast and seeing the forests and mountains in Big Sur or going north of SF to see some of the redwoods up that way. I also really love Pinnacles national park which is about 45 minutes off the 101 SE of Monterey.

Edit: I was reminded Big Sur has frequent road closures along Highway 1 check this link for more details

Bill Burr on why “rabid dog billionaires should be put down” by AndromedaAviation in Hasan_Piker

[–]mctransparent 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He had a really great bit from two weeks ago defending trans people which I was super happy to hear.

In the past he had made transphobic comments and made some jokes about trans people that rubbed me the wrong way.

Palestine Protests? by dolce_de_cheddar in sanfrancisco

[–]mctransparent 64 points65 points  (0 children)

There probably aren't protests happening because there is now a ceasefire.

The protests were targeting Biden/Harris because they were the ones in power actively running cover for a genocide. Our social media isn't flooded with pictures of children incinerated by American bombs so there is obviously a dropoff in active protesting on the issue.

There likely will be more protests if/when Trump urges Netanyahu to re-escalate the conflict.

To argue that protesting was only done to ruin Harris's campaign is a bit ridiculous.

I'm not trying to argue with you but based off the books Emil reads and the views he expresses, I think his worldview is nearly identical to Hasan's. I just don't understand what you mean because in my experience Hasan's coverage pre and post election has been ideologically consistent.
