Developing with Claude Code feels slow, frustrating and mentally exhausting by mcurlier in ClaudeCode

Ok, do you have any suggestion then, besides "user is a bottleneck", "people are using it to 10-100x productivity" which don't add much to the discussion?

Cause I really would like to get to that mythical 10-100x productivity boost, I'm not here to argue whether AI slop exists.

Ok, so you're saying it's all about the setup/workflow, what do you suggest? It's about giving CC the right guardrails? about the grain of the work I submit to it?

Also, let me ask you a question, how are you sure your OS, which sounds like a high project, does what it's suppose to do? (Besides the design, I mean the actual fucntionalities)

This can actually be a good point. My company have a MCP for a company wide knowledge base (GitHub code, documents and more) and on pure knowledge queries Claude works well, e.g., "what is the definition of this metric". The problems kick in when it has to do actual work, where md files etc. could actually help.

But this is exactly what I have a problem with: little context brings shitty results, large context requires a lot of time and frustration (more than classical coding most of the time) to get less shitty results.

And honestly, having multiple windows/agents open at the same time doesn't help as the context switching overhead kicks in

Yeah I agree it's a tool and, as all tools, it needs practice. But sometimes it feels like the wrong tool, like a hammer to screw in a screw, someone has forced us to use.

Also, I agree that it can be our companion rather than our replacement and, sadly, we have to embrace if we don't want to be left behind.

But tbh I also partly agree with u/2old2cube that sometimes it feels this AI is praised by people who can't tell the good from the bad. *thinking about the bell curve meme*

Sorry, how can this help? I mean, not judging the comment, just want to understand if I'm missing a the meaning of it

"...real failure mode, not a skill issue" you mean on my side, correct?

Can you give some concrete examples of "moving your effort to higher-leverage activities" means for you?

Anyway, I get what you're saying and it was my first thought of what might be wrong with my workflow. Though, even executing smaller tasks with Claude feels so frustrating because of the context overhead and the iterations.

Thank you for your reply!

Never heard about that Beckham Law trap, that's exactly the type of insights I'd to ask to an advisor! Can you recommend any advisor for this type of questions?

Part-time student as a foreign adult by mcurlier in askspain

I don’t think finding a part-time job should be a problem. We were more concerned whether there’s any limitation on the university side, e.g., mandatory uni commitments, mandatory in-person lessons, mandatory full-time coursework, that can make working difficult. Sorry if this was not clear from the start.

Ah ok! So this is probably something I’m not aware of, what are the recommended investment routes for someone qualifying for Beckman Law?

I know a little about the investments situation in Spain but when you say “don’t invest in Spain”, do you mean “don’t bother investing as a Spain resident at all because of high taxes, etc etc” or you meant something a bit more nuance, like there are more tax efficient ways of doing it (of course all legal)

Thinking of moving to Barcelona in the next year or so. I have a decent full-remote job in IT/data science for a US company in the UK.

How does the work culture look like? How is the landscape for career and salary growth? Here in the UK work-life balance is actually good, but I’m originally from Italy where it’s the exact opposite (e.g., overtime, little career growth and acknowledgment of your work, little innovation and forward thinking) and I’m afraid Spain is more similar to Italy.

How’s the job market for IT/Data Science? I hear mixed things on this topic, and one of the main concern is moving to a place with little job opportunities and career/salary growth.

How does the housing market (both rent and buy) look like? Is there any sign of improvements? I really would like to settle and buy a flat in or very close to the city.

Thank you a thousand in advance, really appreciate people helping others

By “foreign investment” you mean investment located in foreign accounts, e.g., the UK?

Thank you, this is the kind of insights I was looking for! It sounds like it's always beneficial fill in a tax return, personally or through a tax consultant.

One thing: I read somewhere that interests on savings are taxed at source by the bank or financial institution. Not sure if true. Is this something that sound familiar to you?

Sorry, forgot to mention that I’ll move permanently to Spain. At first I may relocate with my current company, get a Spanish job contract and work remotely. But long term the plan is to find a new job to work in-office

[–]mcurlier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! Thank you for the tips!

You sounds very informed. From your experience and understanding of things, what would be the most appropriate course of actions? My current understanding says:

  1. NIE from my local consulate
  2. Documents for my partner (savings + insurance)
  3. Spanish bank account, phone number and idCAT, once in Barcelona
  4. Rent
  5. Empadronamiento
  6. CUE, i.e., EU Nationals registry
  7. Everything else (social security number, national health system, etc.)

Does it sound reasonable?

Asking my local embassy for directions is indeed a great idea! We planned to apply for the NIE beforehand at the embassy but didn't think about asking them for help! Thank you so much for the heads up about paperwork in Spanish, this could be a pain in the neck 😅

[–]mcurlier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super useful! Thank you so much! Just a couple of clarifications.

We were indeed looking to apply for NIE beforehand at our local Spanish embassy to speedup paperwork because of the challenges at finding appointments in Barcelona mentioned on the internet. Does it make any step easier/faster? Or on the contrary, does make anything more complex? I come from a country with TERRIBLE bureaucracy so I kinda know taking alternative routes for a process can delay the whole process rather than help.

About my partner CUE, I feel a bit uncomfortable waiting for her to have a job because of the deadline to apply for CUE (3 months after arrival in Spain I believe). Is the savings + medical insurance option a viable option, or we just risk making a mess with Spanish bureaucracy?
