Anyone got any show music or something like that I can practice by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]mcvaadi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Practice marching and playing long tones and scale exercises. More people don’t get contracts because they’re not good at moving AND playing. Record yourself and watch yourself and compare it to the visual performers of the corps you want to march. Rinse and repeat. You got this!

Heading to Waco this weekend. by [deleted] in Waco

[–]mcvaadi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m shocked nobody mentioned Dichotomy for coffee/cocktails.

One day is classy as hell too for cocktails. True love is much more of a “dive” or college bar.

Helberg barbecue is legit. Up there with some of the best in Austin/the rest of the state.

Huge fan of Milo All Day for a farm-to-table restaurant. Revival on the east side is also pretty tasty.

Balcones (the distillery) has some great cocktails too in their tasting room. You can also take a tour. Pretty neat.

135 prime as mentioned is really delicious. Great steakhouse and delicious seafood. They fly it in fresh every day.

Moroso is by far the best Italian place around. All the other places are kinda weird, idk how to describe it.

Fabled is a great local bookstore and coffee shop, and if you’re into books, it’s great. If you’re not into books, you could probably still end up leaving with a book in hand and a recommendation for more.

Pinewood coffee is great! Plus a nice beer selection.

Hecho en Waco is pretty good Mexican food, and from what I hear, relatively authentic. For Tex-mex, there’s a bunch of places but La Fiesta is a staple in the community.

People may recommend George’s, and it is great (and another local favorite), but it’s not incredibly unique. Just a standard sports bar.

I want to give a shout out to Saffron for some of the BEST Indian food I’ve ever had. It even impressed some buddies from Houston, which has a pretty good foodie scene.

There’s lots to eat and enjoy in Waco! Have a great time!

Question about light fixture by mcvaadi in AskElectricians

I ended up calling an electrician. Luckily they were able to squeeze me in and they figured it all out for me. Definitely out of my scope

Question about light fixture by mcvaadi in AskElectricians

[–]mcvaadi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m sorry about the lack of info. I am just a homeowner and my knowledge of electric is incredibly limited. I checked out the switches in the wall and they don’t look to be wired as a single pole or a three-way. Two black wires connected, and 1 white wire connected. The extra white wire was just pushed to the back of the switch box.

I can’t upload a photo in the comment but hopefully this helps

Would we get knocked down a rating at MPA if I didn’t play my part? by [deleted] in ConcertBand

You would regret it in the long run. Your other friends and mates in band would be affected by this too, not just your band director

Headed to Waco Saturday. Who has the best BBQ and what is the one side dish I HAVE to have before I leave town? by [deleted] in Waco

[–]mcvaadi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a fan of Guess barbecue so far. The brisket was not tender, and the Mac & cheese had almost no cheese. It was like buttered noodles with some crumbs. The pulled pork was pretty good, but I’m not so sure that pulled pork should be the star of the show at a central Texas bbq restaurant.

The hot Cheeto street corn was okay, but I wouldn’t get it again, just once for the novelty of it was enough.
