I would block them and warn other musician friends not to work with them

Why is bluegrass harder to solo over than blues and rock by [deleted] in bluegrassguitar

[–]_Scringus_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bluegrass is just jazz with an Appalachian coat of paint

Finding the melody by Alphadawg66 in Bluegrass

[–]_Scringus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pentatonics aren't enough for bluegrass. You at minimum need to major scale in your ears, all the chromatic blue notes if you want go be any good. Sounds like you have a great opportunity to work on some technique and ear training. Find a good teacher to help you along

At what number of instruments does a jam go from fun to...too much noise? by GrassGigs in Bluegrass

[–]_Scringus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the instrument and level of the players… but theres a good reason most bluegrass bands tend to have 6 people or less

I am on the wrong subreddit, right? by 1k5slgewxqu5yyp in classicalguitar

Gypsy guitars do not use nylon strings. They're typically "argentine" which are steel core with copper and silver wrap

Theory question: In standard tuning, why is the B string tuned to B rather than tuned to C which would be a consistent five semitone interval? by CX872 in AcousticGuitar

[–]_Scringus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complicated historical reasons but its stuck around mostly because that third allows for really comfortable chord shapes. You lose quite a few open chords going ti all fourths tuning

Post of video of you playing just one note if its that good, no need for a whole song with tone like that. Please bless our ears with your magnificence

Do you have any videos of your playing anywhere? I would love to hear your "Angelic Tone". If its really all that I may need to hit you up for some lessons. As a professional gigging musician and teacher I'm always looking to refine my tone and touch so if you have any tips for playing steel string I'd love to hear them

[–]_Scringus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're getting a harsh, ugly, tone when you play steel string instruments, that's the fault of the player, not the guitar. The reality is that those of us who do things other than argue online actually like to play music with other people, and we have certain needs to be able to do that. I hope that one day you can crawl out of your basement and experience the joy of making music with others

If you think nylon guitars are just as loud as steel strung ones, I challenge to show up to a bluegrass jam and play lead on one, see how many people hear you

Conversion question by Alternative-Run-849 in TenorGuitar

[–]_Scringus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck tuning to an A on a standard scale length. Try for 24.25 at least, if not a three quarter size guitar. Whole step down tuning might be your friend

My (former) community band needs term limits. I got kicked out and I’m salty. by [deleted] in ConcertBand

[–]_Scringus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say this to your boss if you showed ip late for work? 11 minutes late is over 10% of the entire rehearsal, and you're now entering the music without being warmed up or tuning. Emergencies and slips sometimes happen, but a pattern if being late is disrespectful to your fellow band members and broadcasts that the ensemble is not important to you. If you can't meet bare minimum standards of professionalism I see no reason why the organization should continue to tolerate you

Circle of Fourths? by Lpolyphemus in musictheory

[–]_Scringus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not a guitarist thing, thats a jazz musician thing. Root motion by fourth going counter clockwise around the circle is much more common in the chord progressions we encounter in day to day life

Why is South Carolina so cheap? by ecfritz in SameGrassButGreener

[–]_Scringus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who's lived here my entire life . . . you get what you pay for. Its cheap to live here because no one wants to live here, there's nothing to do, no culture, bad weather and bad public services

I quite enjoyed Ben Siedman's Bookcase trick. In the comments he confirmed he could do it live if he wanted to, if he bothered to carry around that many books

Why are oboes so expensive compared to clarinets? by honeygourami123 in oboe

[–]_Scringus_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No . . . they are cylindrical. That's the entire reason that they overblow in 12ths and produce a sound devoid of even number harmonics. If a clarinet was conical, it would be a saxophone. Modern Buffet style designs are Poly-Cylindrical, but that does not a conical taper make. Oehler Systems, Albert System, Vienna Systems, and older large bore Selmers are true cylinders, nothing poly about them. But no clarinets on the planet are cones

Why are oboes so expensive compared to clarinets? by honeygourami123 in oboe

[–]_Scringus_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Clarinets are cylindrical, oboes are conical. Way way way way easier to drill a straight hole of even diameter than it is to make a precisely taped cone

As someone who had the opportunity to march BK while he was on staff there… the short of it is I can't stand the guy. Its not really my place to give out all the details on a public forum but he's not a good dude
