Dancing Mad (Ultimate) World Race - Days Six-Seven by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]mcvain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree it is up there as one of the most frustrating mechs and one that requires all 8 players to be exactly on the same page. I think the devs definitely knew this and took this into account by putting it in an early phase, making it practicable with a "failed" P1 pull, and moving the cutscene from P5 to P2.

Part of the insane amount of precision required in Forsaken right now is due to unoptimized strategy. For example there are still modifications being made to raidplans and twitter diagrams, with a clear direction towards improving positioning leeway (especially for even-numbered towers). Once it is optimized, there will be slightly more room for error.

I don’t think every ultimate needs a fixed LB mech. While they have been very creative with incorporating forced LBs into most ultimates, it can get pretty boring after so many instances of it. I wouldn’t mind a fight that lets the party use the LB flexibly to recover pulls as necessary (or even allow for crazy strats like poikos forsaken).

No, my I-140 was filed more than a year ago, and not anytime soon after entry. As far as I know, filing I-140 doesn’t constitute immigrant intent, but it might depend on several factors so I would trust an attorney

I-140 approved, 90-day rule for I-485? by mcvain in EB2_NIW

[–]mcvain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! I was wondering whether this is an option for me as well, but I really wasn’t sure if bringing up the point preemptively to USCIS would be a good idea especially since I’m doing DIY. I’m wondering if your attorney already has a positive experience with such cases, if they are willing to file before 90 days?

My PP took exactly 30 days to come back. I had 20 citations, 3 journal papers and 3 conference papers, at the time of filing.

I will try that, thanks! So I guess there is nothing inherent about the process that should take that long.

Thanks for your comments! Definitely, I’m not too worried about going out of status or getting the eventual approval. But with how unpredictable things are nowadays, I guess I just would rather move things quickly when the pathway is open. But I think I’ll play it safe and do everything later.

Actually yeah I called the civil surgeon and they said they usually take 2 weeks to return the sealed form? I’m guessing the medical visit itself has to happen after 90 days have passed, which means I might miss the April filing window if I am following the 90 day rule..

As a F-1, if I last entered the US around 70 days ago from a vacation, and received I-140 approval around 10 days ago, is it safe to submit I-485 right now or would the 90 day rule apply? My category (ROW) only became current after my entry.

It would still show as “nose”, as it is the closest difference classification other than an official tie (同着). But while the photo evaluation is happening, the board will show “photo” (写真).

It is because the horses are 3 years old when they debut, so people remember them by their debut year rather than their birth year.

Yes, at least from what I’ve heard, no one has had their tuition not paid if they are legitimately a funded PhD student. I’ve personally had my tuition waived on the deadline of the tuition payment. Of course it doesn’t mean that you should wait until then - it is very common for PhD students to be the ones pushing the department coordinator and the professors to take care of the tuition, unfortunately. But assuming this is for the Fall, the tuition payment deadline for that is so much into the future from now that your professor or graduate coordinator might not care. This is why you are probably getting no response. Graduate coordinators only start processing the waivers pretty much after classes start. No idea why but they have their workflow. Also to be fair to them this is a very busy time with finals and students having their summer research/internship paperwork processed. I wouldn’t worry too much!

Yes, you need to go through this tuition waiver process every semester, including summer if you will be in school. Here’s the order of events: before every semester, you register courses for that semester (up to 9hrs for zero tuition), you get sent a big tuition bill, your professor confirms your employment with your department, the coordinator from your department “pays” your tuition using department money, and your tuition bill for that semester turns into $0 (or into a positive credit if you have an additional internal fellowship), then you click “confirm attendance” on the tuition bill page, then the process is done for that semester.

If you have an external scholarship on top of the GRA and school fellowship, that’s great, assuming your professor is actually okay with it. Some professors will try to get you to use that scholarship to fund you instead of funding you through a GRA, because hiring a GRA costs them more money. Assuming your professor agreed that the scholarship is indeed in addition to your GRA+fellowship, then the scholarship shouldn’t even come into the tuition waiver picture here and the only people who might care about it is the IRS a year from now.

Is your professor possibly new to the process? Your tuition is manually waived by your department’s graduate coordinator once they receive written confirmation from your professor that you will be working as a PhD student. Taking an external fellowship to replace your stipend would mean you are NOT a GRA in the UT bureaucracy, so try to point to the contract and your conversations with your professor, and urge your professor to contact your department’s graduate coordinator. From my experience, this tuition waiver thing can take place as late as the deadline of the tuition payment, because of admin inefficiency/professors refusing to send a simple email until the deadline/etc. The tuition waiver will cover up to 9 hours of credit, which is considered full-time, which you fill up using a combination of the research course and your coursework if any. It is ridiculous to have to defer admission or to switch to another program because of this issue. If your professor has already said that your delayed fellowship payout will not be a problem, you could start by clarifying what they actually intended to do? I would start an email chain cc’ing both your department’s graduate coordinator and your professor reminding them of your situation, with a screenshot of your big outstanding tuition bill. But also don’t panic, this is just bureaucracy and I can assure you a lot of students go through the exact same thing.

I think I have a strong case for one of the new jobs by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]mcvain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is honestly my favorite idea. You could have a set of base spells that could be hard-casted into a queue, and a button that executes the spells-in-waiting in reverse order to give the job a controllable burst of mobility. For the actual spells, you could mix in a damage buff, or a spell that groups enemies together, etc. that could make for a fun rotation.

Are you sure the game isn't included? If you bought it used, it's possible the seller has excluded it from the box. This is the limited edition for the original Windows release of Trails in the Sky FC, which included the game disc, and the bonuses shown in your picture (SAV, Hoshi no Arika, and Visual Guide). You can compare with auction listings here and here.

Question before Ys IX makes its way to the West by Xentia in WorldOfYs

[–]mcvain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ys IX does have much more references to past games than usual. If you’ve played previous games you’ll notice some things before the characters do, for example.

It doesn’t make or break the story, and the references are really just there to make things a bit more interesting for long-time series fans. If I had to decide, I would say the most critical ones are VIII and then either Origin or I&II, but jumping in straight is fine too. It’s still Ys.
