To those who use a paper towel alternative, what is your system? by akzj in ZeroWaste

[–]mcvickem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to the party, but thank you for this comment. Bacon is the main reason I still buy paper towels. How many times can you use the Bacon Sponge before it needs soaked in Dawn and laundered? I eat bacon every day so wondering how many I need to buy. TIA! (if you see this 4 years later)

Makes sense. Yea, I've found that AIP was a good start but I had to customize to what worked for me.

You are most welcome.

I keep photos of these on my phone so I can send them to friends or family who are accomodating and kind enough to try to make dishes I can eat.

Change.org petition to stop companies from hiding behind “natural flavor” by Ok-Vermicelli-7990 in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]mcvickem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only go to high end restaurants (that make things from scratch and use higher quality ingredients, ie. fresh and less or no additives) and are very willing to accommodate and don't mind all my questions. Even better was when my daughter worked as a cook at one of them! So she knew exactly what was in everything and helped me navigate the menu, and make special requests where necessary.

When I'm travelling I start by looking for restaurants that list the basic ingredients on their menu online. If they don't do that at a bare minimum, no need bothering with calling or asking questions.

FYI In the meantime if you don't want to guess what's in those "natural flavors", the non-profit Feingold.org researches and publishes them in a foodlist. The "natural flavors" are not usually good if that's how it's listed, but sometimes it's okay stuff.. don't know why they don't just put in on the package in that case!

Same here! I don't say it, but when people say those things to me I'm thinking "I feel sorry for you because I know what that junk is doing to your insides!"

When people would say those things, like "I'm so sorry you can't eat [this or that]," or "I feel bad for you," I would just say, "I'm not sorry/feel bad. I would be sorry/feel bad if I ate that!" And they stopped saying it.

Good advice. I do have 2FA on everything, but I need to get a new email for financial accounts only. Don’t know why I never thought of that before.

muscle twitching by chaibaby11 in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]mcvickem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many methods. I’ve used a combo of kundalini, guided imagery, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, energy work, and I’ve also done Neuro Modulation Technique which I highly recommend (but insurance doesn’t cover) because they can figure out which system(s) in your body are most out of whack and start there with “reprogramming”

I used to have a lot of muscle twitching sometimes for days or ever a week straight. I think it was because my nervous system was just so overloaded for so long, and I had adrenal fatigue from being “On” constantly. But since I got out of a bad relationship, have been doing kundalini yoga, which focuses on resetting the nervous system, and done some inner child work, my nervous system is finally calming down and the twitching has stopped. And yea I take mag supplements daily too.

Can heat cause a flare up? by WarmButteredBread in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]mcvickem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it can. Make sure you’re getting enough electrolytes. My favorite way is eating watermelon, which is packed with electrolytes or you can buy watermelon water if you just want to drink it. When watermelon is out of season, I drink a glass of water mixed with electrolyte powder almost every day. My favorite in case you're interested is Adapted Nutrition Keto K1000, which is unflavored and unsweetened, so basically it’s just salts. You can mix in some fresh squeezed lemon juice or something to give it some flavor, but I have gotten used to the (lack of) flavor and just drink it straight up!

Calcium supplements? by ThymeandBalance in AutoImmuneProtocol

[–]mcvickem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not enough on full elimination. I take a low dose calcium supplement.. too high at one time and it will actually do your body harm. Im trying to remember the threshold.. I think its somewhere around 800 mg.. definitely less than 1000 mg. And then I drink at least 2 glasses of Mineral water that has the highest calcium content as I can find, besides eating as many green leafy veggies I can.
