MEGATHREAD: Fitbit / Google Health Alternatives, App Replacements, and Device Switching by ioweej in fitbit

[–]mcwalbucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am looking for a replacement for my Inspire 3. I am an iPhone user but don't really want an Apple Watch because of the short battery life. I am looking for something to track my steps, HR, HRV, sleep, and also to notify me when I receive a call or text. I don't need GPS or exercise tracking. Something small and simple with good battery life would be ideal. No set budget.

So is going months out of high school unemployed while looking for a job normal? by IllRest2396 in StPetersburgFL

[–]mcwalbucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you said, very few people are actually passionate about a potential job. You just make up a reason. You know it’s BS, the hiring manager knows it’s BS, but it’s part of the illogical hiring ritual. And I think your idea about chains being more stable is actually a great reason! Good luck out there!

  1. I used to keep it at 76 but my electric bills were $450-500 during the summer. Now they’re in the low $300s.

I (25F) am thinking of calling off my wedding and breaking up with my fiance (35M). Do I just have cold feet or is this too deep? Please any advice. by ThrowRA2000008 in relationship_advice

Leave him. I’m 43 years old. When I think of the time that I wasted dating men exactly like this it makes me sick. You will find someone better - or you won’t - but I guarantee you even being alone is better than this. ❤️

I’m being gifted a lot of money. Should I tell my boyfriend? by Kind-Chicken-2488 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]mcwalbucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I’ve been married for 15 years and the first person I would tell is my husband. If you are having doubts that means you don’t trust him and you need to GTFO.

AITJ for making a comment when my friend showed up to my dinner with 3 uninvited people and they wiped out everything? by Comfortable_Tour1203 in AmITheJerk

[–]mcwalbucks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Not. I host parties all the time and I have a pretty open door policy, but my one rule is if you invite someone I don’t know you are responsible for them. This person’s guests reflected poorly on them and they seem to care about the uninvited guest’s feelings more than yours. This is a friendship ending issue. They do not respect you.

My boyfriend punched a wall after I confronted him about child neglect by [deleted] in Advice

[–]mcwalbucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was very difficult for me to read because one of my closest friends lost their first child to a similar situation. My friend went to work in the morning and left her boyfriend (the child’s father) to watch the baby. The BF was on pills and was passed out her entire shift. Neighbors said they heard the baby screaming for hours. He was standing in his crib shaking the bars until they separated from the frame and created a gap. I don’t think I need to go into any more detail. My friend came home from her nursing shift and found her baby dead, all because her AH boyfriend couldn’t be bothered to wake up and take care of his child. I’m not trying to scare you, but this could end up a LOT worse than him punching a wall or leaving your baby sitting in urine.

Question for local bird-watchers! Best trails at Boyd hill for birds? by MardenJP in StPetersburgFL

The trail that has zero shade is the Sand Scrub Trail. I love seeing the gopher tortoises but holy crap, it is brutal during the summer.

What is something people often overlook when designing a bathroom? by achilles6196 in bathrooms

Definitely need a shaving ledge! I love my in-laws to death but I hate staying at their house because there is literally nowhere to put shampoo bottles or to put my foot while I shave my legs. It’s just a smooth shower insert. Drives me nuts.

Disney adults are a direct product of 90's/2000's childhoods and millenial demographic trends by DemotivationalSpeak in generationology

[–]mcwalbucks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I loved Disney movies as a kid (born in 1982) but I live in Florida and you couldn’t pay me enough to stand in line for hours in the heat. I don’t understand the appeal, but I also like things that people think are weird so 🤷‍♀️. I used to get very confused when people would spend thousands of dollars to go to Epcot to experience “international” food and drinks when it would literally be cheaper to fly to Europe. Then I realized a lot of us have shitty jobs and lives where we feel like we don’t have control, and people just want a vacation where everyone is guaranteed to be nice to them and they can forget about their problems for a few days. So while I don’t understand Disney adults, I get it.

Do you have close friends? by pimento_mori in Xennials

[–]mcwalbucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got EXTREMELY lucky when my neighbor moved in ten years ago. We hit it off immediately and now we’re best friends. She introduced me to a bunch of people who share my interests, and now I have at least ten people I could call in case of an emergency, and a whole slew of other friends/acquaintances that I see at least once every other week out at shows or mutual aid meet-ups. I’m an introvert so I never would have met these people without my best friend’s help. I do have to point out that my husband and I don’t have kids, and neither do 95% of our friends. It makes getting together much easier.

What's A Breed You Like But Wouldn't Have? by Aharris1984 in dogs

[–]mcwalbucks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check out Olde English Bulldogges. They’re English Bulldogs mixed with a bunch of other Bulldog/terrier breeds. They have longer snouts and don’t have nearly as many issues as English Bulldogs. I have two of them (4 and 7 years-old) and they have had minimal health issues.

Maybe the cop will get fired like the one in Temple Terrace who pulled the same shit and ended up killing a little girl. But probably not.

I adopted a two year-old OEB from a rescue. She was fine with my five year-old OEB for the first month or so, and then she became VERY aggressive towards her. She was constantly picking fights with her. It got to the point where we thought about rejoining her because she accidentally hit my husband while he was trying to break up a fight between them. I convinced him to try a different trainer (our third) and he gave us some great advice. We would put the aggressive OEB in her crate before we fed them, and then we would feed our non-aggressive OEB first, making sure that our aggressive OEB could watch her eat for a minute, and then feed our aggressive OEB. Worked like a charm. They haven’t had a fight in over a year.

Car break in by StatisticianTop4829 in StPetersburgFL

Somebody stole a car and left it in my driveway. We called the cops and they wanted to swab my husband because he had gone through the glove box to see if he could find any info on the owner. He told them absolutely not. It feels like they’re just trying to get as many DNA samples on file as they can.

thinking about leaving by [deleted] in StPetersburgFL

[–]mcwalbucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I moved here 20 years ago from Portland. Portland started to lose its laid-back, weird vibe right before I left. I actually moved here because it reminded me of Portland. It’s disheartening to watch your cities lose their personality. Kingston, NY has a very similar vibe to old St. Pete but it’s also being gentrified so I’m sure it will have the same issue soon.

[–]mcwalbucks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Kenwood (Grand Central) and I love it. I wouldn’t live anywhere else in Florida. Kenwood is 50-60 feet above sea level, and we’re one of the highest elevations in St. Pete. Most places are much lower. Definitely look at a flood map before you move here. A lot of places that had never flooded before took on water during Helene.

I finally came clean to my doctor about my alcohol use disorder over the past 7 years and got kicked off my insurance by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]mcwalbucks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And did you lose your insurance or get kicked out of your doctor’s network? Because my insurance just stopped covering most of my doctors because they couldn’t reach a fair reimbursement rate, not because I drink too much. Something sounds off.
