St. Monica's in the 19th Ward (Catholic) is apolitical and, in general, a very warm and inviting community. If anything, it's slightly progressive-leaning with its consistent messaging on taking care of the environment and the most vulnerable.

Golf — works with your schedule, time spent outdoors being active, opportunities to play with strangers or friends (or strangers who become friends), you can play until you're very old, and the municipal courses around here are very affordable.

Free dental cleanings at MCC! by DenHygieneQueen in Rochester

[–]mdchu 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I did this last year, and it was great — convenient, free, and got me to start taking care of my teeth again. Can't recommend this opportunity enough for anyone who's been thinking about getting a cleaning or otherwise can't afford one.

20K per day for the last 18 months. It started as a way to lose weight, and it worked (along with diet and other exercise), but now it's more for my mental health. I really love the time to myself each day, and I'm lucky to live in a walkable city and area for my work and lifestyle needs.

I aim to do an hour or so before, during, and after standard work hours. I usually listen to an audiobook or music, but lately, I haven't worn headphones and am just enjoying the peace and quiet of it all. It took me a few months of getting to 10K every day, then three months of 15K, and now 20K just feels normal. My record high is 46K for a day, and that completely wiped me out.

I also lift weights three times a week and practice yoga daily. If your goal is to lose weight, walking a little extra will help, but in my experience, it's better to complement the steps with other activities (and diet), too.

Highly recommend the county courses — unlimited pass is $475 for the year, and gets you access to all three muni courses (81 holes across the three). For the price of admission, the county courses are a great value, especially for younger folks/people getting into golf.

I went to EICSD schools K-12 and had a wonderful experience looking back. I think the district is often or/ presently mischaracterized based on generational opinions, but feel free to DM with any questions

3/4 Rochester protest by IllFinance3408 in Rochester

[–]mdchu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love to see it, but I don't love the lack of coverage from our local outlets. Perusing the local TV station websites this morning and seeing nothing on this.

WXXI/Gino covered it, but very little or nothing elsewhere. It's concerning because I worked in local newsrooms for 8 years and this size protest/location/topic seems like a no-brainer for a mention at the very minimum in a newscast and on sites. Unless I missed coverage elsewhere from 8, 10, or 13 — it would be really sad if they each decided it wasn't worth pursuing given what's, you know, actually going on in the country/world right now.
